~Chapter 15~
When Williamâs room was reached, he opened the door, but only pointed inside with his chin. The words âYou should say something like âplease come inââ almost escaped her lips, but she swallowed them and stepped inside while saying, âExcuse me.â
The room was simple â or rather, so plain that it was almost barren.
There were no unnecessary decorations, and she couldnât help thinking, âThis must be easy to clean. The servants would be happy.â
Lilianna loved decorating with small, cute things, but Molly often complained that cleaning them was troublesome.
Prince William walked straight to the sofa and sat down alone.
Although his rough treatment made her irritation grow, she was honestly tired from walking quickly.
Since she wanted to sit down and rest as soon as possible, Lilianna sat across the table after saying, âExcuse me.â
It was good that she could sit, but⊠wasnât she not shown where to sit?
In this tense atmosphere that could hardly be called pleasant, a servant served tea, and delicious-looking sweets were also placed on the table.
After drinking what was clearly high-quality tea and moistening her throat, Lilianna said:
âI would like to ask one question, if I may?â
Determined to be released from this prince, who lacked even the letter âaâ of friendliness, she decided to ask directly.
There was no reply, but since the prince looked firmly at her, she took it as permission and continued.
âWhy did you choose me? Your Highnessâs words were not âI want you,â but âthis one is fine.â In other words, doesnât that mean I wasnât specifically necessary?â
âWell, thatâs correct.â
The prince affirmed it without remorse.
Good! Then please pass me on to the other noble ladies!
âThen, since this is beyond what I deserve, I would like to ask you to arrange it with another lady.â
Let this matter be treated as if it never happenedâŠ
âNo.â
It didnât happen.
Why?! If you would just honestly agree and move on, I would be in trouble!!
âWhy is that? You said I wasnât specifically necessary, didnât you?â
âYou were the least âpredatoryâ among those noble ladies. Though it seems you were more interested in the food than in me.â
As he said this, perhaps recalling the scene, Prince William gave a small, quiet kukuku laugh.
More shocking than the fact that the prince, who never laughed, had laughed, was the realization that she had been watched while eatingâand that by dressing rather plainly, she had instead stood out.
Lilianna could only hang her head in disappointment.
