Chapter – 03
False Heat (Pseudo-Heat)
When Yu Wei came out, the driver was already waiting by the roadside. Seeing him approach, he immediately got out and opened the car door. As soon as Yu Wei sat inside, Wang Youguang frowned.
“Young Master, did you not put your pheromone inhibitor patch on properly?”
He was also an Omega and had known Yu Wei for a long time, so he was very familiar with his scent. Just now, when Yu Wei passed by him, even the faintest trace of pheromones hadn’t escaped his sensitive nose.
“It’s leaking out. Luckily you didn’t run into any Alphas.”
Yu Wei was still thinking about how to get Shi Ciyan and Yu Song to get along properly. Hearing the driver’s words—mixed with some English terms he didn’t understand—he absentmindedly rubbed the back of his neck.
“I think I did,” he said.
Over the past few days, Wang Uncle had repeatedly reminded him to wear the inhibitor patch on his neck. Yu Wei had seen it in the mirror—it was a faint pink bump, like a pimple. The patch Wang Uncle described looked like a bandage, just slightly shorter and wider.
He didn’t think it was anything special, but since he was told to wear it, he did. However, wearing it in the summer heat was extremely uncomfortable, and he often felt like scratching it off.
“I’ll get you a new one.”
There was no mirror in the car. Yu Wei peeled off his current patch and lowered his head, exposing his pale neck as Wang Youguang applied a new one.
Wang Youguang was nearly thirty years older than Yu Wei. He had started working for the Yu family when Yu Wei was in kindergarten and had been his personal driver ever since. Over twenty years of companionship made him feel almost like family.
Still, even if they were close, the gland was a private and vulnerable area.
“Young Master, you must not expose your gland to others,” he said seriously.
Despite his words, he carefully applied the new inhibitor patch.
After finishing, Yu Wei stretched and leaned back into the seat, closing his eyes to rest.
Suddenly, his phone rang urgently.
Without opening his eyes, he fumbled for it and answered. A strange voice came through.
“Brother—Yu Song got into a fight.”
Yu Wei’s eyes snapped open. He checked the screen—this was a number he had added less than half an hour ago.
Shouting and chaos came through the speaker.
“I’m coming now.”
He pushed the door open and got out before even explaining to Wang Uncle, rushing toward the campus gate.
He had repeatedly told Yu Song not to fight or make enemies. Yu Song had agreed so well that Yu Wei thought he had actually improved—but just ten minutes after he left, trouble had already started.
His cannon-fodder younger brother’s instincts could not be erased by a few words.
Yu Wei ran toward the teaching building, silently praying it wasn’t Shi Ciyan he was fighting.
He took the stairs two at a time and rushed up to the fifth floor. A crowd had gathered outside Room 508, and sounds of violence came from inside.
He paused briefly—but what concerned him more than the fight was the heavy smell in the air.
Alcohol.
The scent made him uncomfortable. His neck began to heat up, his legs felt weak, and he grabbed the railing to steady himself.
“Brother, you’re finally here! Hurry, it’s going to get someone killed!” Qiu Lei said urgently from the crowd.
Inside, Yu Song was going wild, and no one dared to intervene after those who tried got hit.
Yu Wei, his face slightly flushed and steps unsteady, was assumed to be exhausted from running. Qiu Lei helped him through the crowd into the dorm.
Inside was chaos.
Yu Song had pinned another roommate to the ground, one arm choking him while the other grabbed his hair, forcing his face up.
“Trash. Say it again if you dare?”
The boy on the ground was already badly beaten, struggling to breathe.
“F—…”
The moment he spoke, Yu Song tightened his grip again.
“Who are you talking about? Useless trash who can’t even land a hit on me, only good at running your mouth!”
“Yu Song…” Yu Wei stepped inside, taking in the scene. Ignoring the overwhelming smell in the air, he shook his head to stay clear-minded and walked forward.
“Let him go.”
Yu Song turned sharply. His aggressive expression vanished instantly.
“Brother…”
Yu Wei didn’t say more. He pulled Yu Song up.
In that split second, the boy on the ground suddenly surged up in rage, releasing pheromones wildly and throwing a punch toward both of them.
“Enough.”
A calm voice cut in.
Shi Ciyan caught his fist mid-air.
At that moment, someone shouted from outside: “The dorm supervisor is here!”
A middle-aged man squeezed through the crowd.
“What kind of mess is this on the first day of school?” he said loudly. “You two, come with me to the office.”
He glanced around and ordered everyone else to disperse.
“Close the door. Open the window.”
Qiu Lei subconsciously obeyed.
When he turned around, he saw Yu Wei suddenly collapse into Shi Ciyan’s arms, breathing unevenly.
“Brother, do you have asthma? Where’s your medicine? Find it quickly!”
Asthma?
Do I have asthma?
Yu Wei didn’t remember hearing anything like that.
He struggled into the bathroom, splashing cold water on his face.
Outside, Qiu Lei tried to follow, but Shi Ciyan stepped in front of him.
“Go buy an Omega suppressant.”
“Heat period?” Qiu Lei asked nervously.
“No. He was affected by pheromones released during the fight.”
Omega instincts caused by incompatible Alpha pheromones could trigger fear and withdrawal. But if compatibility was high, it could instead cause attraction—and even pseudo-heat.
And Yu Wei’s current condition clearly belonged to the latter.
High compatibility with Lin Yuchi’s pheromones had triggered a false heat response despite his inhibitor patch.
Shi Ciyan sent Qiu Lei away and closed the bathroom door.
Inside, the room—once barely scented—was now rapidly filled with thick Omega sweetness.
Yu Wei curled on the cold tiles, writhing unconsciously. His shirt was torn open, exposing pale skin flushed pink. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he trembled helplessly.
Shi Ciyan stood at the doorway, looking down at him.
Yu Wei’s face was flushed red, tears sliding down his cheeks as his unfocused eyes searched the room in vain.
He tried to crawl toward the door, but his body refused to obey, collapsing again like a drowning man.
Shi Ciyan stepped forward and lifted him into his arms.
His fingers wiped away Yu Wei’s tears, then traced lightly over his burning face.
Yu Wei’s breathing grew uneven, his head tilting back to expose a slender neck.
A fragile, trembling beauty.
Shi Ciyan’s hand moved to the back of his neck.
“Does his scent smell good?”
Yu Wei could only let out a weak whimper.
“Do you like his pheromones?”
No answer—only painful breaths.
Shi Ciyan looked down coldly.
Then—rip.
He tore off the inhibitor patch.
The Omega scent exploded outward, sweet and overwhelming, filling every corner of the room.
Banana-like sweetness mixed with hints of apple and melon—impossible to distinguish, but strangely pleasant.
Shi Ciyan watched him silently.
And something dark and secret stirred inside him.
Yu Wei, unaware of anything, clung to him weakly, trembling, seeking relief that never came.
Heat spread through the room—and through Shi Ciyan himself.
And his gland, too, began to faintly burn.
