Chapter – 25Â
 Fools Donât Deserve to Live
Madam Pei was at a loss for words as she witnessed a side of Madam Song she had never seen before. In truth, she wasnât the only one. Song Yongming and Song Yuli had also never seen their wife (mother) in such a state.
The usual Madam Song was intelligent and elegantâa refined lady who maintained her composure even when offended, always avoiding conflict with grace.
But today was different.
Her hair was disheveled, her clothes and necklace askew, and she looked like an enraged lioness no one dared approach.
Even Song Yuli shrank back in fear of her motherâs appearance. Forgetting all about her magic game, she burst into loud sobs.
âWaaah! Mommy! Mommy!â
The cry instantly snapped Madam Song back to her senses. She finally let go of Madam Pei, staggering as she rushed back to her daughter. Opening her arms wide, she pulled the little girl into a tight embrace and soothed her in a trembling voice.
âLili, donât cry. Mommyâs little Lili, donât cryâŚâ
âUuuh⌠Mommy, donât fight⌠I donât want thatâŚâ
âMommy wonât fight. I scared my little Lili⌠Itâs Mommyâs fault⌠Mommy couldnât protect youâŚâ
As she spoke, tears once again streamed down her face, and she held her daughter tightly while crying with her.
Seeing this, Song Yongming and Song Yuli felt their chests tighten and their eyes burn. When they turned their gaze toward Madam Pei, a cold fury flashed in their eyes.
Madam Peiâs head was spinning from being struck, one side of her face swelling rapidly. She finally steadied her breathing, but the sight of the mother and daughter crying in each otherâs arms only irritated her furtherâShe had been beaten and wasnât crying!
Who had the right to cry here?!
Just then, the Pei familyâs elderly madam and Pei Guodong hurried back in. The moment they saw the scene, they immediately burst into rage.
âWhat is the Song family doing?! Call the police! Weâre reporting this!â
Song Yongming had held back earlier, unable to bring himself to strike a woman. But now that Chairman Pei had arrived, he stepped forward with a cold smile.
âReport us if you like. At worst, weâll pay some money.
Butâyou Peis used forbidden arts to harm my daughter. We have the evidence. The Song family will make you pay, no matter what it costs.â
Pei Guodongâs heart nearly stopped at those words. He whipped his head toward his wife, who sobbed out with her half-swollen face,
âThe Life-Borrowing Scroll was burned! They burned it! My HaohaoâŚâ
Learning that the Songs had uncovered the truthâand even destroyed the Life-Borrowing ScrollâPei Guodong collapsed instantly. The old madam stared wide-eyed and wailed as though the heavens had fallen.
âUseless! You couldnât protect something that important?!â
Then she screamed in grief,
âWhy burn Haohaoâs Life Scroll?! That scroll is his life! The Song family is so cruel!â
Even after their misdeeds were exposed, they cried like victims. Song Yongming and the others trembled in fury, ready to retortâbut at that moment, the Song familyâs elderly madam arrived. She spat toward the other old woman.
âHmph! You set a trap for our granddaughter, and dare call us cruel? Youâre the ones with black hearts!â
The Pei familyâs old madam brazenly snapped back, showing no shame at all.
âYour granddaughter is stupid, isnât she? What use is it for fools to live? Giving her lifespan to my grandson is much better. My Haohao is bright and cleverâwhy should he be short-livedâŚ?â
Before she could finish, Madam Pei rushed forward, now pleading toward little Song Yuli.
âLittle Lili, Auntie had no choice. Haohao is sickâhe has to live. You used to play with him when you were little, right? So help him, wonât you? Auntie only wants fifty years, just fiftyâŚâ
Her shamelessness made Madam Song tremble with rage.
âBecause her daughter is âstupid,â she shouldnât live?
âSo dying young is âappropriateâ?
âAnd âjust fifty yearsâ? A human life is only a few spans of fifty years, and she dared ask for that much because of a few childhood games?!
Madam Song felt an overwhelming urge to slap her fifty times. But both her hands were busy covering her daughterâs ears.
Instead, it was Song Yuli who acted. With no concern left about striking a woman, he forcefully yanked Madam Pei away and pushed her out of his little sisterâs sightâshowing that face would only give the girl nightmares.
The Life-Borrowing Scroll had been burned. The Song family had no desire to see the Peisâ vile faces any longer and immediately left under the protection of their guards.
As they departed, however, Guan Xuxu deliberately slowed her steps and turned back to look at the resentful Pei family. She smiled.
âWhen you harm others with forbidden arts, the backlash always comes. Those who led this will not escape it. The Pei family will lose its fortune and be plagued by misfortune for the next three years.â
Then she added,
âThatâs a bonus warning. No extra charge.â
Jiang Huai nearly burst out laughing. Hearing his sister say, with a straight face, âNo extra charge,â struck him as absurdly funny.
âThis sister of his⌠she really did have ability.
âAnd⌠she seemed to like making money.
At that moment, Jiang Huai felt completely relieved.
Money? The Jiang family had more than enough.
âŚ
When they returned to the Song residence, little Lili leaned weakly against her mother, murmuring in exhaustion,
âMommy⌠Lili is hungryâŚâ
The Song family immediately turned anxiously to Guan Xuxu.
âMaster Jiang, is Lili still in danger?â
Guan Xuxu replied calmly,
âNo danger. This is just the aftereffect of having her life drained. Give her some food for energy and let her get sunlight during the day. Sheâll recover.â
The Song family collectively breathed a sigh of relief. They trusted her words without doubt.
But just as they began to relax, she continued,
âHer spirit will return in two days. After that, Iâll come and restore the âwisdomâ she lost.â
Everyone froze. As if theyâd heard something unbelievable.
âM-Master Jiang⌠restore her wisdom? Do you mean our little LiliâŚ?â
Even the powerful businessman Song Yongming stammered, his voice trembling.
Guan Xuxu met Madam Songâs stunned gaze and winked.
âI told Madam Song before, didnât I?â
