Chapter – 24
Ā The Noble Virago…
Guan Xuxu, observing Song Yongming’s expression, reiterated her point firmly.
“Miss Song only disappeared for over ten minutes, meaning we can assume the perpetrator acted within the villa area. That person should also live here.”
This significantly narrowed down the scope.
But Song Yongming wore a troubled expression.
He had lived in this villa area for five or six years. As a high-end residential area, the number of residents was small, and most were familiar faces. However, he couldn’t think of anyone who might hold a grudge against the Song family enough to do this.
As he was pondering this, a small fleet of patrol vehicles stopped at the main gate. A man got out of the lead car and walked straight towards them.
“Before Li’er was in danger, I had already identified suspicious households within the community. It shouldn’t be a family with any known disputes with the Song family.”
His voice was soft yet carried a cold undertone. His features, illuminated by the light, were as handsome as Song Yongming’s, tall and standing imposingly erect, his gaze fixed intently on Guan Xuxu.
This was the other son of the Song family, Song Yuli’s older brotherāSong Yuli.
Song Yuli had been working outside the moment he heard his sister was in danger. Although he knew his parents had called for the Jiang family’s daughter, he didn’t hold much hope, merely staying in contact to keep abreast of the situation. However, the moment he laid eyes on Guan Xuxu, he was slightly taken aback. He knew she was Jiang Huai’s sister, but he hadn’t expected her to look so young.
Jiang Huai, standing beside Guan Xuxu, also noticed Song Yuli. While their families had interactions, the two weren’t particularly close; they simply exchanged a slight nod in greeting.
Seeing her brother return, Li’er was visibly happy. She wanted to run over and hug him, but afraid of damaging the spell on her hand, she just gazed at him longingly and took small, careful steps closer to him.
Seeing his sister safe, Song Yuli’s expression softened slightly. But the situation wasn’t over yet. He urged everyone to get into the cars.
Seven patrol cars formed a line, a convoy that seemed to mobilize almost all of the management’s vehicles, and they proceeded through the villa area.
Soon, following the guidance of the red thread, the group stopped in front of a four-story villa.
The moment she saw it, Mrs. Song’s face showed disbelief.
“Could it really be… here?”
Guan Xuxu, seeing that she recognized the place, just glanced at her sideways.
Mrs. Song, clenching her teeth, said,
“This is the Pei family. Originally, they shouldn’t have had any conflict with us. In fact, the Pei family’s child is one of the very few children in this area who was willing to play with Li’er…”
Because Li’er had the mind of a child, other kids often mocked her and refused to play with her. But the Pei family’s boy was different; he didn’t mind and often invited her to play.
Because of this connection, the Song family, feeling grateful, had even helped the Pei family with business opportunities.
To think that such a family would target Li’er’s lifeā
Mrs. Song’s heart froze.
“Does the Pei family have any elderly who are ill or anyone with a short lifespan?” Guan Xuxu asked, then added, “Someone who is dying.”
“The Pei family’s old lady has always been healthy…” Mrs. Song murmured, then suddenly her face stiffened. “But…”
At that moment, an angry shout came from inside the house.
“What are you people doing?! Do you intend to trespass?!”
“Today, I don’t care if it’s trespassing!” Mrs. Song declared decisively. With a signal from her, the Song family guards, with their trained movements, swiftly restrained the people inside.
Mrs. Song, along with Li’er, followed the red thread upstairs to a room.
Opening a drawer, they found the “Life-Borrowing Contract” written on red paper, hidden inside.
She snatched it immediately and went back downstairs.
Mrs. Pei was hysterically trying to make a phone call, but the moment she saw the contract in Mrs. Song’s hand, her face turned deathly pale.
She couldn’t believe they had actually found itā
“Give that back!” Mrs. Pei screamed, lunging forward, but Song Yuli immediately stepped between them, grabbed her arm, and threw her to the floor.
Afraid it would be snatched back, Mrs. Song rushed into the kitchen and held the Life-Borrowing Contract over the gas stove, setting it on fire.
“Stop!!” Mrs. Pei wept and screamed, desperately trying to lunge again, but the flames had already spread. Mrs. Song threw the half-burnt paper into the sink, then turned around and simultaneously slapped Mrs. Pei across the cheek with all her might.
A sharp crack echoed, and Mrs. Pei’s cheek reddened and swelled. But Mrs. Song didn’t stop. She grabbed Mrs. Pei’s hair and delivered two more fierce slaps.
In that moment, there was no trace left of the elegance or decorum of a high-society lady.
Driven by the fury of someone targeting her beloved daughter, Mrs. Song wasčæä¹ēÆē (jƬn hÅ« fÄngkuĆ”ng – nearly insane/bordering on madness).
“How dare you target my daughter! Using evil arts to harm someone! What grudge could Li’er possibly have against you?! She’s just a child!!”
Years of suffering from protecting her child with a mind like a child’s, coupled with the terror and anxiety of this day, all erupted in this moment. Mrs. Song, crying and shouting, continued to hit Mrs. Pei, having completely cast aside any pretense of refinement or dignity, becoming the very image of a virago.
āFor a mother, her child is her bottom line.
If you dare lay a hand on her child, she’ll show you exactly what a noble virago can be ….
