Chapter 8
â Where Jealousy Leads
After we left the sweets shop and walked for a bit, I tried to shake his hand off, butâ
âHey, did you get jealous?â
He asked me in a completely different, spoiled voice compared to how he spoke with Yua.
And on top of that, he was holding my hand so tightly I couldnât escape.
ââŠHuh?â
âI said, did you get jealous? Watching me chatting happily with Yua?â
Still gripping my hand, he leaned down to peer into my face from below.
ââŠWait. Donât tell me, Ruka, you did that just to make me jealous?â
When I asked, Ruka nodded with a big smug grin.
ââŠAre you, like, mentally still in elementary school when youâre off stage?â
ââŠWhat?â
âLook, Iâve told you so many times alreadyâI donât like you that way. You get it? Youâre not my type, so I donât get jealous.â
ââŠAre you saying that seriouslyâŠ?â
For just an instant, the strength in his grip loosened.
âI am saying it seriously. Itâs been, what, a month now? Iâve been telling you the same thing all along.â
When I said it sharply, Ruka went silent.
âBesides, that girl Yua⊠donât you feel sorry for her? She probably worked up the courage to call out to you, right? And yet you just left her hanging like that. Honestly, I think that was the worst. Instead of being jealous, I think I might actually have started to dislike you a little.â
The moment I said it, I realized Iâd gone too far.
But it was already too late.
And for some reason⊠I couldnât stop myself.
âI mean, youâve got such a great body, but youâre weak at arm wrestling, and when I hit you out of anger it actually landsâŠâ
âThatâs only because youâre a black belt in aikido and karate, Risa-chanâŠâ
âI like guys who are handsome, perfect, and strong enough to protect me when it matters. Someone tough in a fight. Thatâs the type Iâm into. Which is⊠completely different from you, Ruka.â
I didnât know why such cruel words kept spilling from my mouth one after another.
But before I realized it, Iâd said them all.
