Escape from Death?
Her current condition was extremely bad. The latter half of her exoskeleton was densely covered with shrapnel. Some pieces had even pierced through the armor and stabbed directly into her body.
“The Herrscher probably didn’t notice this place…”
All the tools she could throw had already been used up. If she got entangled with the Herrscher again, she couldn’t guarantee that she would still be able to escape.
“I need to find a way to leave this place…”
Unfortunately, before she could make a move, a Scythe-wielding Dead Apostle discovered her location.
Silently calculating the distance between herself and the Dead Apostle, and confirming that it had entered effective range, Xi Ling raised her hand, aimed at its head, and pulled the trigger.
However, the scene she expected—its head being blown apart—never happened.
The nail simply slid out from the barrel of the gun, falling onto the ground with a crisp metallic sound.
“Damn it, why did it run out of air at a time like this?!”
Watching the Scythe Dead Apostle getting closer and closer, Xi Ling struggled to stand up.
Blood had already formed a dark red pool beneath her. Her legs, pierced by multiple pieces of shrapnel, could not even support her body properly.
“Is this… the end…?”
Her vision became blurred by the blood covering her eyes. Her arms hung weakly at her sides, and her legs trembled uncontrollably.
“No… I promised Elysia… I promised I would go back and find her…”
Using every ounce of strength left in her body, Xi Ling swung the nail gun and slammed it heavily into the Dead Apostle’s head.
Watching the Dead Apostle collapse to the ground, Xi Ling finally lost the strength to keep standing and fell onto the ground.
Not far away, a Honkai Beast let out a roar after hearing the noise and began moving toward her.
But Xi Ling no longer had the strength to fight back.
“So… I still have to break my promise…?”
The excessive blood loss caused her thoughts to become increasingly blurry. The boundaries between heaven and earth gradually became indistinguishable.
Just when she thought she was going to die here, a pink figure suddenly picked her up onto her back.
The scenery around her rapidly passed by as the figure moved at incredible speed.
The familiar, faint fragrance made Xi Ling instinctively call out the name of the person in front of her.
“Elysia…”
But this time, Elysia did not respond to her call.
Only after they reached a place where no Honkai Beasts could be seen did Elysia finally stop.
“Idiot… Is this how you planned to come find me?”
“Ely…”
Xi Ling’s voice was extremely hoarse.
Her shirt and coat were dyed red with blood. After the effects of adrenaline wore off, every piece of shrapnel embedded in her flesh felt like it was tearing at her body.
“Ely… help me… it hurts…”
“Hold on, I’ll get them out for you right away!”
Xi Ling bit down tightly on her own sleeve.
While removing the pieces of shrapnel embedded in Xi Ling’s body one by one, Elysia couldn’t stop the tears from falling.
“Ely… don’t cry… your face won’t look pretty if you cry…”
Xi Ling tremblingly raised her hand, trying to wipe away the tears on Elysia’s face.
However, when her dried blood touched Elysia’s warm tears, it dissolved again and stained Elysia’s face.
“Idiot… Next time, don’t force yourself like this, okay?”
“Mm… There won’t be a next time…”
Xi Ling’s hand slowly slipped down, and she gently leaned against Elysia.
“I’m so tired… Let me sleep for a while… just for a little while…”
Xi Ling’s voice was faint.
Her fragile appearance made it seem as if she would lose all signs of life in the very next moment.
“Don’t sleep… You can’t… I’m begging you…”
