Encountering the Herrscher of Reason
While answering, Elysia leaned against Xiling and rubbed herself against her. She only stopped after Xiling pulled her away.
“Come on, hurry up. The breakfast will get cold.”
Looking at Elysia, who stubbornly clung to her and refused to let go no matter what, Xiling helplessly tapped her on the head.
“Mm… I just wanted to spend a little more time with you.”
Perhaps because she had noticed Xiling’s doting attitude toward her, Elysia’s courage had gradually grown bolder.
“Hurry up and eat. We need to leave.”
Elysia’s straightforward attack made Xiling’s cheeks feel slightly warm. She quickly changed the subject, but Elysia still noticed her reaction.
After breakfast, Xiling searched through the area again and gathered some useful supplies. After confirming that the Honkai Beasts nearby had not noticed them, she pulled Elysia along and left the apartment.
“The city has definitely become impossible to stay in, but if we want to return the way we came… there are so many Honkai Beasts out in the open areas. It won’t be easy either…”
Hidden behind a wall, Xiling frowned as she stared at the map she had found in the apartment.
If it were only Elysia, there would be no need to consider so many things. Even if they went straight through the center of the Honkai outbreak, it would not be a problem.
But if she also had to bring Elysia along…
“It seems like I’ve already become a burden…”
Unfortunately, before she could even finish lamenting, a wave of Honkai Beasts had already begun surrounding them.
What was worse was that the Herrscher of Reason seemed to have noticed that there were still two living humans here.

Seeing the Herrscher of Reason slowly approaching, Xiling shoved the backpack containing food and medicine into Elysia’s hands.
“Elysia, later you’ll go around through that park. Keep walking. Before you leave the city, don’t look back!”
After saying that, Xiling turned around and prepared to rush out, but Elysia grabbed her.
“What about you? What will you do?”
“Trust me, Elysia. After you get out, I’ll come find you.”
Xiling gently touched Elysia’s head. Then she pulled out the modified nail gun from her waist.
“If you don’t leave, we’ll both die here.”
Taking advantage of the moment when Elysia was stunned, Xiling rushed out and fired several shots at the Herrscher of Reason.
Although the attacks did not cause any damage to the Herrscher of Reason, they successfully drew its attention.
“Hey! Look over here!”
Xiling took several modified firecrackers from her pocket and threw them into the Honkai Beast swarm.
In an instant, explosions, flames, and smoke intertwined together. Not only did they cause the Honkai Beasts to become temporarily paralyzed, but they also caused the Herrscher of Reason to temporarily lose sight of its target.
However, the Herrscher of Reason quickly constructed dozens of rocket launchers and began bombarding the area covered by smoke.
The sounds of explosions came one after another.
Elysia, who had already run into the park, stared blankly at the flames shooting into the sky. The corners of her eyes gradually became wet.
“Xiling…”
However, this was not the time to grieve.
The Honkai Beasts had already caught up with her. The dust kicked up by their movements blurred her vision.
“Xiling… you wouldn’t lie to me, would you?”

Xiling hid behind the ruins, gasping for breath.
Although she had already moved out of the blast radius when the Herrscher of Reason was constructing the rocket launchers, the shockwaves from the explosions, along with the flying shrapnel and broken pieces of stone, still caused her considerable injuries.
“Elysia should have escaped by now, right…?”

“If I had known earlier, I would have kept some hemostatic medicine for myself…”
