Chapter 15
I wanted to explain, but suddenly I remembered who this girl was—Yu Jin’s childhood friend, Yu Guo’er. I recalled that last time when Yu Jin brought a few of his friends to introduce her to me, she really was the woman in front of me. It’s just that back then her makeup wasn’t so exaggerated, so for a moment, I didn’t recognize her.
After Yu Guo’er hung up, I suppressed my anger and said, “Do you want to hear an explanation?”
“Go explain it to Yu Jin,” Yu Guo’er glanced at me, then walked aside, ignoring me. My friends pulled me down to sit and started whispering about whether we should take the chance, while all the classmates were upstairs, to beat the crap out of him.
I thought about it—my salary wasn’t much, and I couldn’t afford such a mess—so I waved it off. I had only been sitting for a little while, chatting with my friends about who this woman was to Yu Jin, when I saw him coming in with a dark expression through the KTV’s main entrance.
“Yu—”
Smack.
Before I could even finish calling his name, he came up and slapped me. I didn’t expect him to hit me in front of everyone. The blow sent me crashing into a table. Then I heard the shattering of glass, and my head was buzzing.
Shouts, scolding, people trying to break it up, and the sound of things breaking—all mixed together. It took me a long time to react. When I finally came to, I saw Tang Li pinning Yu Jin to the ground, punching him again and again.
Even my friends had gone up and kicked him a couple of times. Yu Jin’s mouth bled, and he cursed at me: “Bitch!” I caught my breath, my face burning. Then I stood up and slowly walked over to him.
He had no strength to resist and couldn’t even fight Tang Li, being pinned down tightly. I began to laugh, a harsh laugh that brought tears to my eyes, my breath unsteady, my body trembling.
I said, “Didn’t expect this day to come, did you?”
I said, “Now it’s my turn to pay you back, right?”
I said, “Yu Jin, divorce is divorce!”
Then I fiercely slapped him twice. I hit him so hard that my palms ached and went numb; his face instantly flushed red. Those two slaps seemed to stun him—he didn’t react for a long moment.
“That day, you coming home with a woman’s shoes and bag, I could let that slide. A woman’s underwear? Fine, I could overlook that too. But the semen stains on our sheets and the condoms in the trash—what’s that about? Tell me! I saw her coming out of our house! How do you explain this?”
The angrier I got, the more dizzy my head felt, gasping for breath, tears streaming nonstop. He finally came to his senses, glaring at me viciously: “You dare hit me?”
“So what if I hit you!” My friends rushed forward and slapped him again. “You’re a scumbag. Each of us could give you a slap, and it wouldn’t even be too much!”
“Yu Jin, is what she’s saying true?” Yu Guo’er’s mouth fell open in shock, as if she’d never heard anything like it, and she asked him in disbelief.
Yu Jin snorted, then arrogantly said, “What’s wrong with me finding another woman if you pretend to be sick and don’t sleep with me? I even told you. Even if you know about this, it doesn’t matter. My parents know too—it’s something they condone. Going to them won’t help.”
As he spoke, Tang Li couldn’t help but punch him again, making blood flow from his mouth. But he spat a mouthful of blood, chuckled, and said, “So what if you hit me? So what if you go complain to them? When we get divorced, you’ll still have to return the dowry in full. In the end, you’ll still be a free woman who hasn’t spent a penny…”
