Chapter 46
âThe Ball Without a Villainous Noble Ladyâ
[ Kai and Rutiaâs Summer Vacation Arc, Part 15 ]
The ballroom was at its height when a commanding voice echoed through the grand hall.
âEveryone!â
Standing upon the stage was none other than the first prince of the kingdom, Leon.
He was clad in a jet-black formal suit, and beside him stood Philia, dressed in a gown of pale blue.
âBefore you all, I wish to make a formal announcement,â Leon declared.
âI, Leon, hereby announce my engagement to Lady Philia Abend!â
A wave of astonishment rippled through the hall.
âWhatâ!?â
âBut wasnât His Highness long betrothed to Lady Rutia since childhoodâŠ?â
âWhat in the world is going on?â
The noblesâ murmurs swelled, confusion and surprise mixing in the air.
And thenâ
A crisp sound of applause cut through the commotion.
Clap, clap.
All eyes turned toward the woman in a crimson dressâRutia. She stepped forward with elegance, her expression bright and confident.
âAs for that matter,â she began with a graceful smile, âallow me to explain!â
The room fell silent.
âHis Highness and I were engaged merely due to our parentsâ arrangement when we were children,â she said clearly. âBut now, each of us has met someone truly dear to our hearts. Therefore, our engagement has been dissolved.â
And in that same momentâ
She unhesitatingly wrapped her arm tightly around Kaiâs.
âAnd the one I have found,â she announced with pride, âis this gentlemanâKai Cross, my beloved teacher!â
âWhaâ!? OâOi, Ojou!!â
Kaiâs face turned crimson as he desperately tried to pry her off, but Rutiaâs grip was unyieldingâlike iron.
On the stage, Prince Leon smiled and gently pulled Philia close.
âThatâs right,â he said warmly. âRutia and I are childhood friends, and now weâve each found someone who truly understands us. That is how it should be.â
Philia smiled softly, her hand resting over Leonâs.
âAnd I am honored to walk this path with His Highness,â she said.
Applause burst forth across the ballroom.
âHow splendid!â
âLady Rutia stepped aside of her own willâhow noble!â
âA perfect resolution!â
Everyone applaudedâexcept for one man.
âThis is bad! Ainât no way I can talk my way outta this now!!â
Kai squirmed in panic, trying to free his arm, but Rutia only held tighter, her smile unwavering.
âHusband dear, trying to run away at a time like this would be terribly rude, donât you think?â
âI ainât your husband! Iâm just a math teacher!!â
âNo, to my peopleâand to meâyou are the one and only husband that matters.â
âOâOjouuuu!!â
The crowd watched their exchange with warmth and amusement.
âThey truly are a perfect match, arenât they?â
âLady Rutia and Professor Kai will bring stability to the realm!â
âHail to the new son-in-law!â
âI said I ainât no son-in-law!!!â
But his protests were drowned out by the cheers and applause.
Rutia, triumphant, rested her cheek against Kaiâs arm, her smile radiant.
âFufu⊠Now, no one can deny it anymore.â
âI definitely deny it!!!â
The ballroom was filled with joy and laughterâ
And the title of âVillainous Noble Ladyâ⊠had vanished completely.
