Chapter 58…
The Princess of Mirage Opens the Gate to the Underworld Once More.
In the grand hall where the engagement celebration was being held, Yvette’s father, Baron Raymond, was boasting proudly to the other guests.
“Céline is truly a beautiful and intelligent girl. You know, she completed the queen’s education — which the Princess of Mirage took years to finish — in just two. Once she becomes Crown Princess, she will surely be a splendid support to His Highness Prince Alexis. I intend to assist them quietly from behind the scenes as well.”
Having escorted Céline to Alexis and entered the venue, Yvette noticed Baron Raymond and immediately approached him with a radiant smile.
“Father, thank you so much for everything you’ve done for Céline today.”
“My adorable granddaughter, officially betrothed to the Crown Prince himself — there’s no greater pride for me.”
The two exchanged satisfied smiles, while Christoph, standing nearby, still could not bring himself to look cheerful.
Just then, a loud stir arose outside the hall.
“Isn’t that the Princess of Mirage?”
“Oh! I’d heard she was safe, but to see her in person—!”
“It’s been so long since I’ve last seen her… and she’s as breathtaking as ever.”
The sudden appearance of Felicia — who had long vanished from public life — sent a ripple of excitement through the guests. In moments, she was surrounded by several layers of admiring onlookers.
(Even though today’s supposed to be Céline’s day… that woman is always so infuriating!)
Grinding her teeth, Yvette glared at the scene.
Before the engagement ceremony began, the Chancellor announced that His Majesty the King would first give a greeting to the assembled guests. While everyone waited for the King’s arrival, drinks were passed around.
Even Felicia, standing quietly in a corner, was handed a glass of champagne. She hesitated, memories of unpleasant experiences with champagne flickering in her mind.
The long-absent Princess of Mirage had drawn every gaze from the moment she entered. Though she was not meant to be the focus of the day, it was she who captured all attention. Feeling the sharp sting of countless eyes upon her, Felicia finally steeled herself and lifted the glass to her lips.
—The next instant.
Felicia dropped the glass and nearly collapsed where she stood.
“Lady Felicia!”
Her faithful attendant rushed forward and caught her in his arms.
The entire hall was thrown into chaos — and amidst it all, Yvette’s lips curled into a chilling, triumphant smile.
