Episode 51
Flint didnât notice the calm on Elianoâs face. In his steady voice, he spoke:
âMy grandfather loved the view here. Itâs a beautiful night skyâand the garden is lovely by day too.â
Flint glanced up. Stars filled the sky, glimmering.
âI came to give you the stars.â
âHuh?â
He looked at her, confused. Eliano smiled and spoke more clearly:
âI mean, you can pick the stars. Theyâre yours.â
She stepped closer. Moonlight highlighted her green eyesâthey shone brighter than the stars. Flint couldnât look away. His grip on his teacup loosened.
âPick the⌠starsââ
Before she finished, the cup slipped and shattered on the floor. It startled both of them.
âStay stillâitâs dangerous,â Flint bent down, brushing shards aside. Then he straightened up.
âExcuse me.â
With a swift motion, he lifted Eliano in his arms, her feet no longer touching the floor.
âThose shards couldâve cut you.â
Eliano nestled against his chest. Feeling his tension, she gently laughed. They exited the terraceâno chairs were outside. Flint, holding her, looked around helplessly. Her cloak slipped off her shoulder and fell. He carefully placed her on the bed.
âI swear I mean no wrong. Please donât misunderstand.â
His tone was conscious of the bedroomâs intimacy. Eliano giggled. Flint went to close the terrace door. He seemed reservedâbut Eliano felt an urge to act.
âIf you truly wanted those wrong intentionsâŚ?â
He froze. She could sense his restraintâit puzzled her. He was too proper.
âLook at the stars. Thatâs why I came.â
Eliano slowly loosened the front of her robe. Still facing away, Flint watched her hands.
âStars belong to the heavens, not humans. Youâre asking for the impossible.â
Her movement stopped him. Cooling the thirst of the night began.
âPlease⌠donât pull a lady into bed.â
Flint sighed deeply. He appeared torn, but she knew he rarely wavered.
âLord Flint, you shouldnât shame a lady.â
âEliano⌔
Flint turned to face her. His cheeks were flushed. Eliano wore only a thin gown under her robe. The robe lay on the floor, and the gown clung softly to her form. If she stepped forwardâeverything would be visible. But she continued.
She stepped closer.
âHold me, Your Grace.â
He tried to move backâbut had nowhere to back away. His voice was firm:
âI cannot.â
âDonât you desire me?â
Her whisper made his neck tightenâand her green eyes bloomed like flowers.
Eliano smiled.
âAll want the stars. To take a star, a man gives himself.â
Flintâs brows furrowed.
âI donât wantââ
Eliano stepped closer. She brushed a gown-ribbon looseâher shoulder revealed, chest bare.
âHold me.â
The invitation finally touched him. Flintâs gaze met hersâfilled with yearning.
But he spoke coldly:
âYour Grace⌠I only embrace with feeling.â
She turned and met his gaze.
âThen feel for me.â
Flint said without emotion, “You donât love me.”
Eliano laughedâa burst of light in the night.
âSo romanticâŚâ she murmured.
She bent forward:
âIf I say I love youâwill you hold me?â
âElianoâŚâ
He used her full name, carrying weight. She answered softly.
âI do. I love you.â
At those words, Flint stiffenedâbreath caught, eyes wide. Heart pounding.
He stepped backâbut she closed the gap, pressing her hand to his chest. His body responded, shifting onto the bed.
âThis⌠canât happen.â
Elianoâs hand brushed against him. She guided it with purpose.
âHold me, Your Grace.â
Flintâs arms wrapped around her waist firmly. She closed her eyes, feeling him. His embrace was strongâbut she nudged closer.
It was not what she had planned: she intended for him to lead. But his embrace felt overwhelming.
âDo you know how to hold?â
Flint rose slightly, gently laying her down on the bed. His touch was courteousâbut not what she wanted.
She sat up, somewhat irritated.
âYour Grace!â
âEliano, tonight stays ours, no more,â he said, voice gentle. âLet me accompany you home.â
Eliano understood his reserve. She couldnât blame himâbut time wasnât hers.
âNot enough. You donât understand my father!â
âMy Lord asks me toâŚ?â
Elianoâs eyes filled with tears.
âMy father plans to marry me off for an alliance. If I return now, heâll lock me upâor sell me to Zacador!â
The words shook Flintâs expression.
âWhy would⌠youââ
âBecause he wants it!â she cried.
She sobbed softly.
âYou must hold me tonightâand formally propose to the Rosana family. Only then he cannot stop us.â
Tears fell, defiance in her eyes. Flint sat still. The room grew quiet. Eliano felt sadness and desperation, even dismayâbut she forced resolve.
âStayâand take me completely, Your Grace.â
She loosened every ribbonârevealing herself fully, claiming it as a pact.
Flint closed his eyes, conflictedâbut not moved.
Dude.. come on!!
