Chapter 20
Standing in the Rain for Two Hours
Shi Yushen picked up his phone and called Lin Suian.
But Lin Suian’s phone had already run out of battery, so the call never connected.
Did something really happen?
Shi Yushen frowned and prepared to go out.
The moment he opened the door, he saw Lin Suian standing outside covered in mud and dust, blinking at him with frightened eyes.
Shi Yushen did not care how pitiful and miserable he looked.
The anger in his chest instantly surged upward as he shouted furiously:
“Lin Suian, you’re already at the door, so why the hell didn’t you tell me you were back? Were you standing there acting like a damn door god!?”
Actually—
Lin Suian was too afraid of being scolded, so he did not dare come inside.
But he did not say that directly.
Being yelled at like this made his throat sting painfully.
In a small trembling voice, he explained:
“I… I ran really far to buy the crayfish. But the rain was too heavy, and I accidentally slipped, so it spilled…”
His eyes turned red and wet.
No one could tell whether it was from the rain or because he genuinely wanted to cry.
“I’m not lying…”
Lin Suian nervously held up the ruined box of crayfish with both hands and sincerely showed it to him again, trying to explain that everything he said was true.
“Can this even still be eaten!?”
Shi Yushen glanced at the messy box covered in soup and mud.
His face darkened instantly.
With one swing of his hand, he knocked the box away and angrily snapped:
“You’re seriously useless. You can’t even buy one thing properly. What’s the point of keeping you around?”
Lin Suian lowered his head and looked at the mess scattered across the floor.
Then—
Bang.
Shi Yushen slammed the door shut again.
Lin Suian knocked on the door softly.
“I’m sorry… I really didn’t do it on purpose.”
He had thought about buying another portion.
But his phone was dead, and it was already too late at night.
There was no time anymore.
Shi Yushen walked into the study and checked the security camera footage at the entrance.
After adjusting the time, he realized this idiot had actually stood outside for an entire hour.
If he did not want to come inside, then he could just stay out there forever.
The more Shi Yushen thought about it, the angrier he became.
He turned around, took a shower, and planned to sleep.
But even after taking two pills, he still could not fall asleep.
Half-lowering his eyes, bored out of his mind, he returned to the study and watched the security footage again.
Outside, the weather was freezing.
Wind and rain mixed together as the temperature dropped sharply.
Lin Suian had taken off his coat and draped it over himself while curling into a small ball, hugging his knees and trembling nonstop.
His face had become pale several shades lighter.
He wanted to go home.
He wanted to visit his bedridden mother in the hospital.
But even if Shi Yushen got tired of him and threw him away—
Qin You would never let him go.
Lin Suian thought that once Shi Yushen calmed down a little, he would beg him.
Even if he had to lower himself completely, it did not matter.
As long as Shi Yushen did not throw him out.
No one knew how long he stayed outside.
The rain eventually stopped.
The sky turned completely dark.
Two whole hours passed.
Seeing there was still no movement outside, Shi Yushen finally went downstairs and opened the door, pulling Lin Suian inside in one rough motion.
Before the angry words in his mouth could come out, Lin Suian suddenly grabbed his wrist with freezing cold fingers.
Carefully lowering his eyes, he quietly asked:
“Are you not angry anymore?”
Shi Yushen glanced down at him with disgust.
“You’re filthy. Don’t touch me.”
Only then did Lin Suian withdraw his stiff, purple-tinted hand.
In a hoarse voice, he apologized again.
“I really did run very far to buy it… but I was too anxious to come back quickly, so I accidentally dropped it…”
Shi Yushen still stared at him coldly without any sign of softening.
Thinking he had not sounded sincere enough, Lin Suian hurriedly added:
“Please don’t blame me anymore, okay? There definitely won’t be a next time.”
Shi Yushen was so angry he laughed instead.
The first time they met, this person had cursed him as a bastard and a rapist.
So why was he this afraid now?
Seeing the dark smile on Shi Yushen’s face, cold like a jade-faced demon, Lin Suian became even more nervous.
Shi Yushen slowly looked him up and down before coldly saying:
“You still want there to be a next time?”
“You’re so clumsy. Even a dog I hired would do better than you.”
Lin Suian thought Shi Yushen really was about to throw him away.
The next sentence would probably tell him to get out.
That made sense too.
Someone like Shi Yushen could have anyone he wanted.
Why would he specifically keep a useless fool?
Lin Suian suddenly regretted why he had not watched his step carefully and ruined everything.
Sniffling softly, tears gathering at the corners of his eyes, he copied the way Li Yan addressed him and asked:
“Yushen-ge… are you going to make me leave?”
The tone of his voice made Shi Yushen uncomfortable.
“Leave where?”
“If you leave, where the hell am I supposed to find someone to take care of me? I already gave all that money to your godfather for investment. Can I even get it back?”
Thirty million was an unimaginable fortune to Lin Suian.
But to Shi Yushen—
Even a random antique vase he smashed in anger cost more than that.
After hearing that Shi Yushen was not driving him away, Lin Suian’s heavy mood immediately lightened.
Squinting his eyes, he smiled.
Just moments ago he still looked ready to cry, yet now he softly pleased him:
“I won’t leave.”
Shi Yushen ignored him and cursed quietly:
“Stupid thing.”
After taking a shower, warmth finally returned to Lin Suian’s body.
Shi Yushen lay on the bed, just about to sleep, when his father suddenly called.
Shi Jiang was overseas on a business trip, where it was still daytime.
But here, the night was already very deep.
Shi Yushen asked impatiently:
“What is it? Do you even know what time it is?”
His careless attitude instantly displeased Shi Jiang.
The older man’s deep smoker’s voice came through the phone with criticism.
“A father calling his son still has to choose the right time now? Besides, you weren’t asleep anyway.”
Shi Yushen could not be bothered arguing with him.
Shi Jiang continued:
“Stop fooling around with your useless friends. Something happened to Han Yuan. You weren’t involved, were you?”
At the mention of Han Yuan, Shi Yushen looked as though he had to think hard to remember who that was.
Han Yuan was one of his former friends.
They were not especially close, but they used to hang out together sometimes.
A few days ago, Han Yuan had been reported by one of his lovers and taken to the police station.
The test result came back positive.
His parents spent enormous effort getting him released.
Shi Yushen asked:
“Why are you bringing this up?”
Shi Jiang warned him:
“Don’t mess around outside. Behave yourself. Don’t end up like that Han guy.”
Shi Yushen pulled the person beside him into his arms and bit two rows of red marks into his shoulder.
“If I really wanted to mess around, there’s nothing you could do to stop me.”
He was not a child anymore.
After saying that, Shi Yushen hung up the phone.
Lin Suian did not dare breathe loudly.
His breathing had practically stopped.
Seeing his cowardly appearance, Shi Yushen laughed softly, though his voice remained cold.
“Are you trying to suffocate yourself to death?”
Actually, a few years ago, Shi Yushen had once wanted to play around like that—
But it never worked out.
