Chapter 13
I Really Feel Bad for You
The next morning, Lin Suian climbed down from Shi Yushen’s bed. There was not a single part of his body left without bruises or marks.
He took out the bag holding his clothes, pulled out two school uniforms, and slowly put them on.
His movements were very careful. He truly did not dare wake the man still sleeping.
After getting dressed, Lin Suian quietly closed the bedroom door and went downstairs without even raising his head.
Just thinking about everything that had happened these past few days made him lose his appetite. He did not even eat breakfast.
After leaving the house, he took two buses to school.
The weather was still a little hot.
The moment he entered the classroom, people immediately stared at him.
All the other boys were only wearing short sleeves, while he alone wore a thick coat over a long-sleeved shirt, looking completely out of place.
“Well, look who’s here. Lin Suian finally came back. What kind of sickness did you get? Why are you wrapped up like that?”
Seeing that Lin Suian ignored him, the boy became even more sarcastic.
“Your body’s weaker than a girl’s. Why are you so useless?”
Lin Suian did not answer.
He still wore a mask over his face. His whole body felt unbearably hot, and he could barely breathe.
His deskmate, Mu Xiaoyang, became annoyed listening to it and threw a book at the boy.
“Shut your damn mouth. Whether his body is weak or how many clothes he wears has nothing to do with you.”
The boy caught the book and angrily threw it back.
“Oh? The second-worst student is helping the worst student now? Makes sense though. You two are the only ones who can get along.”
Hearing this, Lin Suian frowned slightly.
He habitually raised his hand to support the side of his face.
But his face hidden beneath the mask was already swollen. Even the slightest touch hurt badly.
Seeing Mu Xiaoyang still wanting to argue for him, Lin Suian grabbed his arm with his hoarse, broken voice.
“Forget it. Don’t waste time arguing with people like him.”
“Xiaoyang, lend me your notes. I want to copy some things down.”
Only then did Mu Xiaoyang calm down a little and hand him the notebook.
“My notes aren’t very good. Should I go borrow the class monitor’s for you?”
Lin Suian hated troubling people the most. He immediately shook his head.
“It’s okay. I’ll just look through yours casually.”
Before this, he studied in a small countryside village where the education quality was poor, so his foundation had never been good.
When he was in the second year of high school, Qin You helped transfer him to the best school in the city center.
On his first day there, he was completely stunned.
Aside from Chinese class, which he could barely understand, he could not follow anything else at all.
No matter how hard he studied, his grades were always near the bottom.
When he ranked last, Mu Xiaoyang ranked second last.
When Mu Xiaoyang ranked last, he ranked second last.
The two of them never seemed able to escape the bottom rankings.
Thinking of this, even the hand Lin Suian used to write notes trembled weakly.
Mu Xiaoyang took out carefully made snacks from his schoolbag and blinked his bright eyes at him.
“Suisui, want some? I heard you were coming back to school, so I specially made them last night.”
Lin Suian originally wanted to reach out and try one.
But he suddenly stopped.
Whenever Shi Yushen touched him, he was always rough and violent.
Not only was his face injured, but even the corners of his lips were split open. He could barely eat anything.
And even more than that—
He did not dare remove his mask in front of Mu Xiaoyang and let him see how miserable he looked.
So he waved his hand.
“No thanks. I’m sick. If I take off my mask, I might pass it to you.”
Lin Suian tried his best to say it gracefully, not wanting to show the ugly side of himself.
“Alright then. Next time after you recover, I’ll make them again.”
Mu Xiaoyang looked disappointed, but he still cared about him.
Mu Xiaoyang was the first real friend Lin Suian made after transferring to this school.
Because of his appearance and personality, Lin Suian was popular with girls, but many boys disliked him, so he was often isolated.
For a long time, he was always alone.
Lin Suian met Mu Xiaoyang during gym class.
At that time, Mu Xiaoyang was being bullied by several troublemakers from another class.
Back then, Lin Suian was still quite brave.
Even though they did not know each other, he stepped forward to help him.
Although in the end, both of them got beaten badly.
After that day, Mu Xiaoyang treated Lin Suian like a savior, constantly following him around until the two naturally became close friends.
During class, Mu Xiaoyang became bored and glanced toward Lin Suian.
But he accidentally noticed a large patch of injuries beneath his collar.
All kinds of terrible thoughts instantly appeared in his mind.
Lin Suian’s head felt dizzy. His eyes kept opening and closing sleepily.
The teacher happened to notice the two of them spacing out and shouted sternly:
“Lin Suian! Mu Xiaoyang! Go stand outside as punishment!”
“Your grades are already terrible. Don’t you ever think about why? Daydreaming in class every day instead of listening. Of course your scores are bad.”
Mu Xiaoyang took a deep breath.
“Teacher, Lin Suian is sick. Don’t punish him. I’ll stand outside alone.”
“No. Both of you get out. If you keep bargaining with me, then don’t eat lunch either. Just keep standing outside.”
And so, the two of them walked out one after another.
Sweat soaked his body and stung his wounds painfully.
The wind blew into his sleeves, making his bones tremble. His head felt heavy, and even standing became difficult.
After several minutes, Mu Xiaoyang finally gathered the courage to ask him quietly:
“Suisui… did something happen to you?”
But before Lin Suian could answer, he fainted.
When he woke up again, he saw Mu Xiaoyang lying beside the bed, holding his hand while crying with red eyes.
Lin Suian thought for a moment that maybe he was dying.
Otherwise why would he hear someone crying so miserably?
But after looking carefully, his mind slowly cleared.
“Xiaoyang… why are you crying?”
His voice was terribly hoarse, but his tone remained gentle.
Seeing that he was finally awake, Mu Xiaoyang could not hold back anymore. Tears instantly poured down again.
“Wuwu… Lin Suian, tell me honestly. Did someone beat you? Why are there so many injuries on your body? I’ve never seen you like this before.”
“You saw my body?”
The first thing Lin Suian cared about was not the injuries, but this question instead.
“At a time like this, you still care about that? I’m asking if someone bullied you!”
Lin Suian shook his head, not daring to tell the truth.
“No… I just fell accidentally…”
Before he could finish speaking, Mu Xiaoyang’s eyes turned even redder as he interrupted emotionally.
“You’re lying!”
Lin Suian no longer knew what to say and swallowed the excuses he had prepared.
Mu Xiaoyang looked heartbroken as he choked on his sobs.
“Please tell me, okay? I really… feel bad for you…”
