Bird in a Cage

Shi Yushen locked him inside the house and refused to let him go out.

Lin Suian had become terrified of being trapped.

He still had to attend school and finish his studies. He could not stay here forever.

Barefoot, he stared at his curled toes below him and carefully spoke to Shi Yushen.

“I still need to go to school. During the daytime… can I not stay at home?”

“A whore that still goes to school? First time I’ve seen that.”

Shi Yushen lowered his thin eyelids and teased him casually.

“Suisui is really impressive. Going to school during the day, and warming someone’s bed at night.”

“Can you even handle being that busy?”

The smile on his lips suddenly disappeared as he lifted his eyes to look at Lin Suian, clearly warning him not to push his luck.

“Please… I’ve already taken several days off. If I don’t go back soon, I’ll get punished by the school.”

Lin Suian panicked. He nervously picked at his fingers, unable to sit still.

Shi Yushen looked relaxed as he crooked a finger toward him.

“Fine. If you serve me well, I’ll let you go to school for a few days. How about it?”

“Really?”

“Suisui, would I lie to you?”

Shi Yushen sounded intimate and gentle, but amusement still lingered in his eyes.

Exactly the same as the first time Lin Suian met him.

That natural arrogance and disregard hidden deep in his bones.

He looked gentle and easygoing toward everyone, yet his true nature remained cold and heartless.

The fever still had not gone away.

Shi Yushen stripped off his clothes and lowered his voice.

“I heard that when someone has a fever, it feels hotter inside. I wonder if that’s true.”

Lin Suian sucked in a painful breath, but Shi Yushen had no intention of letting him go.

He took out his phone and said:

“I’ll give you a chance. Ask for two more days off, then you can go back to school.”

“You’ll tell your teacher yourself.”

Cold sweat covered Lin Suian’s body. His teeth trembled, yet he could not force out a single word.

Shi Yushen dialed the call.

Listening to his teacher’s concerned voice, Lin Suian’s eyes became as lifeless as stagnant water. His hoarse voice could barely hide the fear and panic inside him.

Teacher: “Are you feeling better now, Suian? If you’re still sick, it’s fine to take a few more days off. You can make up the lessons later.”

Shi Yushen gripped his waist from behind, forcing him to speak.

The voice near his ear gradually turned low and threatening.

“If you don’t speak, I’ll hang up. Then forget about ever going back to school again.”

Lin Suian felt like crying. His nose stung painfully.

But he could not let the teacher he respected so much notice anything wrong.

So in the end, he only whispered one word.

“Okay.”

After hanging up, he buried his face into the pillow and cried like a helpless child.

“Why are you crying?”

Shi Yushen pulled him into his arms, stroking him like a dog, though there was no warmth in his eyes.

Lin Suian immediately stopped crying.

He was afraid of making Shi Yushen angry. If that happened, things would only become worse for him.

Choking back his sobs, he forced himself to smile and lied to Shi Yushen.

“I’m just too happy… because you agreed to let me go back to school. That’s why I cried.”

Lin Suian sniffed quietly, trying to make his voice sound less miserable.

Shi Yushen narrowed his eyes and kissed his tear-covered cheek. For some reason, his mood improved slightly.

“I treat you like this, and you’re still happy?”

Shi Yushen suddenly became interested and kept questioning him with raised brows, though nobody knew what he was thinking.

Lin Suian did not know how to answer.

Just think of himself as a dog.

Only when the owner was happy could the dog be happy too.

After spending these few days together, he realized Shi Yushen’s temper was impossible to predict. His moods changed constantly, making him terrifyingly hard to understand.

Lin Suian did not want to anger him.

Even when he was punished for no reason, he did not dare complain.

At that moment, he answered Shi Yushen with a stiff expression, trembling as he forced out two words.

“Happy.”
