Story 72
Peering Face
I work at what you would call a nursing home.
I’m a 39-year-old woman, and I’ve been working at the same nursing home as a caregiver for about 15 years.
Because of the nature of the job, I sometimes have night shifts. It’s not that I’m extremely scared of anything, but I have had experiences that felt a little like paranormal occurrences.
This is one of the most recent events that happened.
I commute by car, so after finishing a day shift, I headed to the nursing home’s parking lot, unlocked my car, and got in. Even though it was a day shift, it was a late shift, so I finished around 9 p.m. That day, it was raining, and it was already completely dark.
The parking lot for the home is across a small road from the building. I park with the front of the car facing the nursing home.
Wanting to get home as quickly as possible, I got in, started the engine, and turned on the headlights.
Then, a human face appeared faintly in the window of a private room in the home. I had no concrete reason to think so, but somehow I felt it was the face of an elderly woman.
The spot where I had parked was right in front of Room 104.
I thought it must have been the resident of Room 104 peering out the window. The face even looked like Ms. A, who had lived in Room 104.
But then I reconsidered.
When I thought about it carefully, Room 104 is currently empty.
Ms. A had already passed away…
About a week ago, Ms. A had suffered heart failure in Room 104 and died there.
So there was no way she could be in Room 104. And since only a short time had passed, no new resident had moved in yet.
But still, the face was definitely in the window of Room 104.
I decided to think that maybe Ms. A had come back to the home. That she had liked the home so much that she returned, even if only as a spirit.
The next day, I went to work for a late-shift day shift, just like the day before.
B, who had worked the early shift that day, told me that C, who had worked the night shift, saw Ms. A in front of Room 104. After hearing that, I shared my story about seeing a face appear in Room 104’s window.
Both ghost stories quickly spread among the staff at the home.
Perhaps because of that, rumors about paranormal activity in Room 104 started to multiply.
Some were more extreme, like people saying that Ms. A had spoken to them or even grabbed their shoulder.
Day after day, stories of scary experiences connected to Ms. A accumulated. More than a month had passed since her death.
Around the 49th day after her passing, reports of scary experiences involving Ms. A suddenly stopped.
Everyone at the home speculated that she had safely crossed over to the afterlife after the 49th day.
People like us, who work in elder care facilities, face those who are passing away every day.
Paranormal phenomena like this happen quite often.
Some may not believe in ghosts, but what else can you call the souls of people who cause paranormal occurrences after their death, like Ms. A?
If there’s another chance, I’d like to share more stories of strange or ghostly phenomena that have happened at the home.
