Story 61
Mirror
I live in a secondhand house, and I ended up breaking a mirror that the previous resident had left behind.
It seemed to be glued to the wall with some kind of adhesive, so I couldnāt remove it, and I had just left it there. It was in the hallway, so it kept catching my eye, which I didnāt like.
The mirror was probably a cheap one, about 40 cm tall and 20 cm wide. It had a white plastic frame. Iām guessing the previous resident bought it from a 100-yen shop or something and stuck it there.
I didnāt want to take it down because it might damage the wallpaper, but since it was broken, I had no choice. I pried it off the wall.
Then, on the back of the mirror, I saw that it was covered with tiny pieces of paper. Each one was overlapping irregularly.
The pieces were roughly rectangles about 1 cm tall and 3 cm wide.
On every piece of paper was written in red letters:
“Mika-chan, die.”
Seeing all those densely written words, I remembered something.
Thatās rightāthis place was a āhauntedā or accident property. I remembered that this was the scene where a mother, driven mad after her husband died, had abused her daughter to death without anyone noticing.
