Synopsis

“Hey, are you hungry?”

After starving for three straight days, a soft white loaf of bread appeared before me.

I devoured the loaf—almost as big as my arm—on the spot, and the villain standing before me gave a sly smile.

“Now that you've eaten, shall we have a little talk?”

With a single loaf of bread, my entire life was mortgaged to a villain.

The man who gave me that bread was a villain.

Not just any villain, but the leader of an infamous guild.

Somehow, he knew about my special ability—clairvoyance—and sought me out with a strange proposal.

“I'll feed you, and you'll work for me. Sounds like a fair deal, doesn't it?”

“Will I get to sleep somewhere warm? You won't hit me, right?”

“Of course not. Why would I beat someone as tiny as you? I'll even pay you in gold coins.”

“Okay! But aren't you going to eat the bread in your pocket? Can I have it?”

He might be a bad guy, but at least he didn't force me to beg for food or starve me like the orphanage director did.

So I took his hand.

“Rookie... may I touch your cheek just once?”

“One Brin (100 won) per touch.”

“W-What?! That's way too cheap! Please, take my entire salary instead!”

“...I was joking.”

I thought all I had to do was complete the jobs I was assigned, but for some reason, the guild members' affection toward me seems strangely excessive.

For the first time, I failed a mission.

The guild leader saved me when I was on the verge of getting seriously hurt.

As I dangled from his side, I spoke.

“Boss... I still haven't completed the mission.”

He replied,

“Is that what matters? Are you hurt or not?”

“...I'm not.”

“Then that's enough. Let's go eat. I'm starving.”

They say villains have neither blood nor tears.

But somehow...

The villain boss has started acting strangely.
