Chapter 17
** It’s a Pity His Brother Doesn’t Like Her**
Rong Ci also noticed that even someone as composed and cool as Feng Tingshen had clearly shown an expression of admiration and appreciation.
Feng Jingxin and Qi Yuming had even jumped up from their seats.
The race was reaching its climax.
Feng Tingyi took the binoculars back again.
It seemed Feng Tingyi’s attention was entirely focused on Lin Wu; he didn’t notice that Feng Tingshen and the others were also there.
The race came to a temporary halt.
Lin Wu was in first place for now.
Rong Ci asked Feng Tingyi for the binoculars.
Feng Tingyi was pleasantly surprised: “Sister-in-law, are you captivated by my goddess too?! I told you — no matter if they’re male or female, there’s no one who doesn’t like my goddess!”
Rong Ci lowered her eyes and smiled but said nothing.
She wanted to take out her phone and call Feng Tingshen.
She wanted to know how Feng Tingshen would react to her call at this moment — most likely, seeing her incoming call, he would just hang up directly.
After all, that was how Feng Tingshen had always treated her.
Thinking this, she felt there was no need to make the call anymore.
She didn’t want to call either.
It felt pointless.
But still, perhaps for the last time.
With that thought, Rong Ci picked up her phone, dialed Feng Tingshen, and then raised the binoculars.
She watched as Feng Tingshen saw it was her calling, hung up without hesitation, and then turned his attention back to Lin Wu.
His eyes were only for Lin Wu.
Rong Ci took a deep breath, then smiled and calmly handed the binoculars back to Feng Tingyi.
For the rest of the race, Rong Ci didn’t watch anymore, nor did she pay any further attention to Feng Tingshen’s side.
All the races ended.
Lin Wu came in first.
Feng Tingyi was extremely excited. He and his friends really wanted to go get her autograph.
“But I heard CC is not only a wealthy heiress but also a PhD graduate from a prestigious university. Racing is just her hobby. She doesn’t need fans and doesn’t cater to them. Apparently, she usually leaves right after the race and has never given autographs. So getting her autograph is basically impossible.”
“Yeah, this is a private race, so the chance of getting an autographed photo might be higher, but there’s a dedicated lane for the racers. Without connections, we can’t get inside either. Sigh…”
While Feng Tingyi and his friends were discussing this, they heard that Lin Wu had already left with her friends to celebrate.
Sang Qian had already called to催促. Rong Ci rejected Feng Tingyi’s request to go out with his friends and prepared to take him back.
Before leaving, Rong Ci went to the restroom.
When she came out of the restroom, she bumped into someone.
“Sorry.”
“Sorry.”
Both Rong Ci and the other person stepped back and apologized at the same time.
When she looked up and saw who it was, Rong Ci froze.
He Changbai.
Another of Feng Tingshen’s good friends.
He Changbai naturally recognized her too.
Seeing her, his already cold expression grew even colder.
Rong Ci noticed, of course.
She had met Feng Tingshen when she was ten years old.
Feng Tingshen, He Changbai, and the others had grown up together as childhood friends, with a very close relationship.
They had gone to school and played together as children; as adults, they collaborated on projects and would get together regularly.
Both when they were young and after her marriage, Feng Tingshen had always excluded her from his circle.
So although she had known He Changbai, Qi Yuming, and the others for over a decade, they were barely even nodding acquaintances.
But not long after meeting Lin Wu, Feng Tingshen had introduced her to He Changbai and the others.
That was why Feng Tingshen had He Changbai and the others help celebrate Lin Wu’s birthday. And why He Changbai and the others had come to watch Lin Wu’s race today…
She heard that Lin Wu had already become very close with He Changbai and the others.
So close that even when Feng Tingshen wasn’t around, they would still invite Lin Wu to any gatherings.
He Changbai and the others had completely accepted her as one of their own.
Perhaps that was why, over the past two years, He Changbai and the others had grown increasingly cold toward her when they saw her.
In the past, she had also wanted to build good relationships with He Changbai and the others, but they looked down on her.
They gave her no opportunity.
They had always been very cold to her.
She had her pride. Since they had made their attitude clear, she didn’t force it.
But when they met, if necessary, she would politely greet them.
Most of the time, however, she was met with their indifference, or even contempt.
This time, Rong Ci didn’t plan to speak at all.
She walked past him and left directly.
But He Changbai spoke: “Miss Rong, are you interested in racing too?”
His tone was cold.
Rong Ci keenly sensed his implication — he suspected she had followed Feng Tingshen here.
She turned back and said coldly, “What are you trying to say?”
He Changbai showed no shame at having his thoughts guessed: “I just find it curious that someone like Miss Rong doesn’t seem like the type to enjoy racing.”
“Someone like me?” Rong Ci looked him straight in the eye. “Mr. He, are we very close? Do you know me very well? Since you seem to think you know me so well, why don’t you tell me — what kind of person am I?”
The impression Rong Ci had always given He Changbai was that of a quiet, gentle, even somewhat shy and introverted person — but he felt this was just Rong Ci’s facade. In reality, Rong Ci was very calculating. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have done something so despicable back then just to get Feng Tingshen.
And afterwards, she had continued to play innocent, still refusing to admit that she was behind that incident.
He Changbai didn’t respond. He just looked at Rong Ci.
He couldn’t be bothered to comment on her.
Nor did he deign to.
However, the way Rong Ci spoke to him today was somewhat different from how she used to act when they met.
It was as if she had torn off her mask of pretense and didn’t want to pretend anymore.
But not quite.
Because Rong Ci’s gaze at him was cold, sharp, and clear, yet tinged with a hint of mockery — as if she was mocking him for thinking he had seen through her, and for standing on a moral high horse to judge her person without any distinction between right and wrong.
Rong Ci didn’t care what He Changbai thought. She withdrew her gaze and left.
Sang Qian had rented an apartment near the school for Feng Tingyi.
Rong Ci drove him back near the school. It was already 11 PM.
Feng Tingyi was still growing. Although he had eaten dinner, he was hungry again.
He said, “Sister-in-law, there’s a late-night snack place nearby that’s pretty good. Let me treat you.”
Rong Ci hadn’t eaten dinner either and wanted something warm to fill her stomach, so she agreed.
As soon as they sat down, Rong Ci’s stomach growled.
Feng Tingyi froze, then suddenly realized: “Sister-in-law, you… you didn’t eat dinner?”
“No.”
Feng Tingyi immediately felt embarrassed: “I’m sorry, Sister-in-law. It’s all my fault…”
“It’s okay. I wasn’t hungry earlier anyway.”
Feng Tingyi looked at Rong Ci’s gentle smile and felt a little uncomfortable.
He truly thought Rong Ci was a wonderful person.
It was just a pity that his brother didn’t like her. Sigh…
