Chapter 16Ā
** There Was a Reason Feng Tingshen Was Captivated by Her**
Only then did Feng Jingxin cheer up a little, rattling off a list of her favorite foods.
Feng Tingshen listened quietly.
After Feng Jingxin finished, Lin Wu praised the clothes Feng Jingxin was wearing: “The clothes Xinxin is wearing are really pretty. They suit you very well.”
“Really?”
Lin Wu smiled: “Of course it’s true.”
Then she asked, “How was your day at school today, Xinxin? Did you get along well with the other children?”
They chatted back and forth happily. Feng Tingshen rarely interjected, simply using his knife and fork to eat at a leisurely pace.
An unknowing waiter, watching them, assumed they were a family of three and cast an envious glance at Lin Wu.
Just then, Feng Jingxin saw the video call coming in from Rong Ci.
It was a call she had asked Rong Ci to make this morning.
But now she was happily chatting with Lin Wu and didn’t want to hang up.
Earlier that morning, when she saw Rong Ci holding another child, she had been unhappy.
But during class, the teacher had said that parents love their own children the most, and that in every mother’s heart, her child is unique and cannot be surpassed by any other child.
That made her feel secure.
Seeing that Feng Jingxin wasn’t answering, Rong Ci grew concerned and called the homeroom teacher.
The teacher was in the children’s rest area. When she heard why Rong Ci was calling, she laughed and said, “Xinxin is fine. She’s on a video call with her father and apparently some auntie⦠Tell you what, I’ll go over and let her knowā”
“No need to trouble yourself.”
Hearing this, Rong Ci understood that Feng Jingxin was on a video call with Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen.
That meant Feng Tingshen was likely having lunch with Lin Wu right now.
She said gently, “It’s fine. Let them talk. Don’t disturb them.”
After hanging up, Rong Ci sent Feng Jingxin a message asking how her day at school was, whether she had made any new friends, what she had for lunch, and reminding her to listen to the teacher and sleep well when it was time.
More than ten minutes later, Rong Ci received a voice message from Feng Jingxin.
“Okay, Mommy, I’ll sleep well.”
In the afternoon, after a day of working with Xu Xuena, Rong Ci found that Xu Xuena had an outgoing personality, was good at socializing, and was quite capable at work.
Around 6 PM, Rong Ci was about to leave work and go home when Xu Xuena came over and invited her to dinner, saying she wanted to thank her for the day’s guidance.
“It’s my job, Secretary Xu. You don’t need to be so polite.”
Xu Xuena was still trying to convince her when Rong Ci’s phone rang.
It was her mother-in-law, Sang Qian.
Rong Ci was surprised to see the caller ID.
Sang Qian looked down on her as a daughter-in-law and usually ignored her. Over the years, the number of times Sang Qian had contacted her could be counted on one hand.
Rong Ci answered with confusion: “Mother?”
“Tingyi has been secretly racing with some people lately. I’m worried about him. I’ll send you the address in a moment. You go and bring him back.”
Without a single unnecessary word, Sang Qian gave her order and hung up directly.
A few seconds later, she sent Rong Ci an address.
Rong Ci looked at it and saw that it was a suburban racetrack.
She said to Xu Xuena, “Sorry, I have something urgent to handle. I have to go.”
More than an hour later, Rong Ci arrived at the destination.
The racetrack was large, and there were quite a few people there even late at night. It was noisy. Feng Tingyi wasn’t answering his phone, so Rong Ci had to search for him.
She had been looking for nearly twenty minutes when she finally found him.
When Feng Tingyi saw Rong Ci, he was shocked: “Sister-in-law? What are you doing here?”
Rong Ci explained why she had come.
Feng Tingyi raised his hand and swore: “Tonight is my goddess’s first race since returning to the country. She’s the number one female race car driver in Asia, CC. I don’t want to miss it. I promise, I’ll go home as soon as the race is over. I won’t do anything reckless! So don’t worry about me, Sister-in-law. You should go back first.”
“Butā”
Before Rong Ci could finish, many people up ahead started shouting “CC” excitedly.
“My goddess is coming out?!”
Hearing the commotion, Feng Tingyi completely forgot about Rong Ci. He started shouting excitedly along with the other spectators and even picked up his binoculars to stare at the starting line.
Feng Tingyi’s face was full of theēē and excitement of a devoted fan. Rong Ci was a bit surprised and asked, “When did you get into racing?”
Although she hadn’t spent a lot of time with Feng Tingyi, she knew he hadn’t been interested in racing before.
“I wasn’t interested in racing before ā but that was before I met my goddess! Do you know how beautiful and cool my goddess is? When you see her, Sister-in-law, you’ll understand why I love racing! And I’m sure you’ll be captivated by her too! After all, my goddess is so good, so perfect ā there’s no way anyone could not love my goddess!”
Just then, CC began her entrance.
Feng Tingyi started screaming and shouting maniacally again, momentarily forgetting Rong Ci’s existence.
Rong Ci hadn’t had dinner yet. Seeing how crazy he was, how much he liked and idolized this CC, and since he wasn’t the one racing, and it was too noisy to say anything he could hear clearly, she decided to stay and watch the race with him before taking him home.
A moment later, Feng Tingyi handed her the binoculars andēÆē promoted: “Sister-in-law, quick, look at my goddess! Number 38! The one in the red racing suit! Super sexy and wild!”
Rong Ci wasn’t actually interested in racing. She felt both amused and exasperated at being forced to accept Feng Tingyi’s recommendation, but she took the binoculars anyway.
She raised the binoculars and looked. After just one glance, she froze.
Lin Wu.
CC was Lin Wu?
She had heard people say that Lin Wu could do all kinds of extreme sports, but she didn’t know she also raced ā and so well, to the point that so many young men and women were crazy about her.
At this moment, Lin Wu was wearing a dark red form-fitting racing suit. Her figure was long and lean, her curves full, sexy, and elegant. She looked dashing, wild, and beautiful all at once ā so eye-catching that it was hard to look away.
Rong Ci adjusted the angle of the binoculars and inadvertently looked toward the opposite side of the spectator stands. There, she saw Feng Tingshen.
He, too, seemed captivated by Lin Wu at that moment, watching her with focused attention.
Rong Ci’s hand gripping the binoculars tightened.
Just then, the race was about to start.
Feng Tingyi anxiously took the binoculars back.
Rong Ci continued to look in Feng Tingshen’s direction.
In fact, aside from Feng Tingshen, their daughter Feng Jingxin and Feng Tingshen’s closest friends were also there.
There was no need to guess ā they had all come specifically to cheer for Lin Wu.
Several race cars sped past in a blur, disappearing into the distance in an instant, causing a wave of screams.
Feng Tingyi looked through the binoculars for a moment, then shoved them back into Rong Ci’s hands: “Sister-in-law, look! My goddess drives so boldly yet steadily, super cool! Look!!!”
Rong Ci took them and found Lin Wu. A moment later, Lin Wu took a risky yet perfectly timed opportunity, making anęé overtake on a curve.
The spectators were all stunned by her bold move, gasping in admiration one after another.
Rong Ci had never paid attention to racing before.
In that moment, she too was stunned by Lin Wu’s audacity.
She stood still for a long time.
Suddenly, she felt that there was indeed a reason Feng Tingshen was captivated by her.
