Chapter 11
** No Matter How Much She Tried to Matchmake, It Was Useless**
Listening to this, Rong Ci almost wanted to laugh.
Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen had met after she and Feng Tingshen got married.
Lin Wu knew about her relationship with Feng Tingshen. She didn’t believe that Lin Lihai didn’t know that Feng Tingshen was her daughter’s husband!
He definitely knew.
Yet he still shamelessly tried to matchmake Lin Wu and Feng Tingshen.
This showed just how utterly indifferent Lin Lihai was toward her as his daughter!
Feng Tingshen agreed.
They exchanged a few more pleasantries. Rong Ci watched as Feng Tingshen waited for Lin Lihai to get into his car, and only after the car drove away did she get into her own car and leave.
Given Feng Tingshen’s current status and position, the only people he would treat with such deference were a few elderly members of the Feng family.
But Feng Tingshen was clearly respectful toward Lin Lihai.
Just because he was Lin Wu’s father.
Thinking of this, she remembered the few times Feng Tingshen had met her grandmother, her uncle, and her aunt-in-law. His attitude had been rather indifferent and cold.
Moreover, in the past, even when she carefully mentioned it, he had been unwilling to help her uncle in any way…
But he treated the people Lin Wu valued very differently.
The difference between how he treated her versus how he treated Lin Wu was like heaven and earth.
This was the difference between love and indifference, wasn’t it?
Not long after, Feng Tingshen also left.
It was a long time before Rong Ci finally turned and entered Yan Hao.
That afternoon, after work, Rong Ci went home to pick up the gifts she had prepared earlier for Old Madam Feng and Old Master Feng, then drove to the Feng family’s old residence.
The old Feng residence was located near the outskirts of the capital. The area was scenic and quiet, very suitable for the elderly to live.
The only drawback was that it was quite far from the city center.
Rong Ci drove for an hour and a half before arriving at the old residence.
She parked the car and, carrying the gifts, hadn’t even entered the house when she heard her daughter Feng Jingxin’s cheerful laughter.
Old Madam Feng was facing the door and noticed her immediately. She broke into a smile: “Xiao Ci is here? Come, come, come sit next to Grandma.”
But only Old Madam Feng was smiling. Feng Tingshen’s mother — her mother-in-law — and Feng Tinglin and her son, when they saw her, their smiles faded.
Rong Ci noticed, but no longer cared as much as she used to.
She pretended not to see anything, smiled, handed the gifts she had brought to the butler who came to greet her, and walked over to the old lady: “Grandma.”
“Ah.” The old lady was overjoyed. She pulled Rong Ci to sit down, then frowned: “Why have you lost so much weight? Did Tingshen bully you?”
Rong Ci lowered her eyes and shook her head: “No, I’ve just been busy lately.”
This was half true and half false.
Feng Tingshen hadn’t bullied her, but her mood had indeed often been affected by him.
Besides that, over the past half month, after work every day, she had basically been focusing on researching artificial intelligence, often staying up until the early hours of the morning.
Her recent weight loss was partly due to that as well.
Before the old lady could respond, Feng Tinglin snorted: “The way you talk, anyone would think your job is so important that the entire Feng Group couldn’t function without you.”
Feng Tingshen’s mother, Sang Qian, sat to the side, exuding the elegant poise of a wealthy matriarch.
She took a sip of tea and said coolly, “If you find working at the Feng Group too tiring, just resign. After all, no one is begging you to work there.”
Feng Tinglin laughed: “Isn’t that right! But I suppose some people wouldn’t want to let go—”
The old lady couldn’t stand the others criticizing Rong Ci. She was about to speak, but Rong Ci spoke up first: “I’ve already submitted my resignation. Once I’ve completed the handover, I will leave the Feng Group.”
Upon hearing this, Sang Qian and Feng Tinglin both froze.
The old lady frowned: “Xiao Ci—”
“Mommy’s here?”
Feng Jingxin had taken the elevator upstairs a moment ago.
Now she happened to come back down in the elevator. Seeing Rong Ci, she was quite happy — after all, she really hadn’t been in contact with Rong Ci for over half a month.
She interrupted Old Madam Feng and threw herself into Rong Ci’s arms: “Mommy!”
Rong Ci paused, hugged her briefly, and said “yes,” but didn’t say much else.
The old lady didn’t actually want Rong Ci to leave the Feng Group.
However, seeing that Feng Jingxin was there, she didn’t continue that topic. Instead, she smiled and said to Rong Ci, “Xiao Ci, Grandma hasn’t had your tea in a long time. Brew a couple of cups for Grandma?”
Rong Ci had grown up by Old Madam Rong’s side. As a young girl, she had a quiet temperament and a calm heart, and she could sit still. She also had talent. Over the years, she had developed considerable skill in tea ceremony.
“Of course, no problem. But dinner is almost ready…”
Feng Tinglin liked coffee, not tea.
She also didn’t like watching Rong Ci show off her tea skills. She interrupted: “Exactly. In a little while, when Tingshen and Tingyi come back, we’ll eat…”
As soon as she finished speaking, Feng Tingshen arrived.
After entering, he first greeted the old lady and Sang Qian.
When he saw Rong Ci, he glanced at her once and then looked away, sitting down on a single-seat sofa far away from her.
Feng Jingxin saw Feng Tingshen and immediately left Rong Ci’s embrace and ran over: “Daddy!”
“Yes.” Feng Tingshen hugged her, glanced around, and was about to speak when Feng Tingyi walked in.
Feng Tingyi was much younger than Feng Tinglin and Feng Tingshen. He was not yet an adult and had a sunny, cheerful disposition. After entering, he lightly leaped over the sofa armrest and landed steadily on the sofa.
Seeing so many people, he smiled and said, “Is everyone waiting for me?”
Feng Tinglin patted his head: “Yes, we’re all starving, waiting for you!”
Feng Tingshen had a heavy temperament and usually spoke little. Feng Tinglin had a sharp temper. Feng Tingyi was the family’s happy-go-lucky child and was closer to his parents.
As soon as he returned, Sang Qian’s slightly cold face visibly brightened with a smile, and the old lady became happier too. Seeing that it was getting late and everyone was hungry, she instructed them to start the meal.
There were only nine people, so they ate in the smaller dining room.
The seating order was: the old lady, Feng Tingshen, Feng Jingxin, and Rong Ci.
The old lady smiled and beckoned to Feng Jingxin: “Xinxin, switch places with your daddy. Let your daddy and mommy sit together.”
The old lady always worked tirelessly to matchmake Rong Ci and Feng Tingshen.
Everyone else was used to it.
They also thought the old lady was wasting her effort.
After all, no matter how much she tried to push them together, so many years had passed, and Feng Tingshen’s attitude toward Rong Ci had not changed one bit.
Precisely because she knew that no matter how much the old lady tried to matchmake, it was useless, Feng Tinglin gave a sarcastic smile. This time, she couldn’t even be bothered to interfere and just found a seat anywhere.
Although Feng Tingshen didn’t like the old lady’s arrangement, as long as it wasn’t something major, he wouldn’t go against her wishes.
So he said nothing.
That meant he agreed.
Rong Ci did not feel happy about the old lady’s matchmaking as she would have before.
Her expression was calm, but when she looked at the old lady, her smile was gentle. She said, “It’s fine, Grandma. Let’s just sit like this.”
