Chapter : 07
It took less than a few seconds for the plan to be completely revised.
Originally, the idea had been to take the docile heir, even build him a harem if necessary, and have him somehow coax the relic into obedience despite its refusal to listen to anyone.
Regina had been reluctant to reveal the truth about the holy relic to the formidable Transcendent Oen Winyak, so she had chosen the heir as the next best option.
She had thought that if the boy was kind and timid, they could persuade him to keep quiet about the relic’s existence.
And if that failed, they could simply erase his memories before sending him home.
But…
They had misjudged him.
This boy was a snake with a pitch-black heart.
Regina shouted coldly.
āWhatever it is we’re hiding, we can’t possibly put anything in the hands of someone like you!ā
āThat isn’t for you to decide, Regina Kyrges.ā
āHow dare you…!ā
Regina’s planetarium opened wide.
As a vast, translucent hemisphere resembling the universe descended over her head, a gigantic crimson magic circle swirled behind the boy.
The killing spell Regina had unleashed was just about to strike Kallian.
I’ll incapacitate him first, then search through that head of his to find out what he’s plotting!
But in the next moment, Kallian’s figure vanished without a trace.
ā?!ā
All that remained where he had been was a brilliant blue crescent-shaped trail.
It was the mark left behind by a razor-sharp sword that had been drawn from its sheath and sliced through the air.
Almost simultaneously, murderous intent surged from directly behind Regina.
Her eyes widened.
When did he get behind me?!
It was commonly known that sorcerers were weak in close-quarters combat, but this speed was simply impossible.
The boy leaned close to Regina’s ear and whispered playfully.
āYou’re going to die before too long anyway. You won’t mind going a little early, will you, Kyrges?ā
A pair of crimson eyes, their pupils narrowed to slits, lunged toward her as though intent on devouring her.
I’m going to die.
There wasn’t the slightest hesitation in the tip of the sword as it rushed straight for Regina’s throat.
Goosebumps spread across her entire body.
He really intended to kill her here.
A Transcendent.
And not just any Transcendentāthe head of Kyrges herself!
Oen, you fool! How could someone like this be so inadequate? That’s complete nonsense!
It was precisely at the moment horror appeared across Regina’s face that she sensed something strange.
Mana was exploding outward dynamically, spreading in every direction.
There was another Transcendent nearby.
Regina desperately completed her defensive barrier and opened her mouth as if screaming.
āHuizel…!ā
āOppaaaaa~?ā
But a bright, ringing voice beat her to it.
Kallian’s sword, which had been about to pierce through the barrier and strike Regina’s neck, suddenly faltered.
āKali! Are you here?ā
The voice that had suddenly barged in was quite loud.
It belonged to a young girl.
Regina was so bewildered by the strange situation that she momentarily forgot her predicament.
This voice… Why does it sound so familiar…?
āHe’s not here, Head of the Family! What’s going on?ā
You really ruined your dignity as a beast!
The moment the complaining voice reached her exceptionally sharp ears againā
The icy murderous intent aimed at Regina vanished without a trace.
However, even though he had withdrawn his killing intent, there was no way to retrieve the sword that had already penetrated to within inches of her vital point.
Yet the blade did not wound Regina’s neck.
Kallian bent the sword sideways with tremendous strength.
Then he simply let go.
The sword barely changed its direction, slicing a long gash through the air before flying off into the darkness.
He… he threw his sword away…?
To throw away his weaponāwhat kind of abrupt change of tactics was this?
Huizel’s mana was still lingering around the entrance to the drainage channel leading to the surface.
An anxious voice continued muttering incessantly.
āI guess we really have to go inside. Head of the Family, let’s go down there.ā
[Do you think I’m your pet? Don’t order me around.]
āYou carried me all the way here without saying anything, so why are you suddenly acting like this? If you don’t take me down there, I’m never getting off!ā
[Let go of me… Guh! Don’t strangle me! How can such a tiny thing be this strong?!]
Regina wanted to shout something and call Huizel over, but for the first time in a very long while, she found herself unable to make a sound.
Instead of slicing off Regina’s neck, the boy had driven the crescent-shaped sword aura into the wall.
The drainage channel beneath their feet split apart without a sound.
The floor twisted, and the bodies of the thirty knights lying on top of it helplessly fell into the sewer below, where filthy wastewater mixed with sewage flowed.
In an instant, every trace of the battle disappeared.
Regina barely managed to climb onto the broken, twisted fragments.
From there, she looked down and saw the boy casually pulling the Imperial Guard Commander out just before he was submerged in the wastewater.
The sword was already safely back in the sheath hanging from the boy’s waist.
āI didn’t expect you to come along.ā
Kallian muttered quietly as he kicked the jacket he had dropped on the floor.
The jacket disappeared into the rushing wastewater as well.
Kallian casually undid a couple of buttons on his shirt and glanced up at Regina.
His hands were moving hurriedly, as though he were being pursued by something.
He was calculating how long it would take the unexpected intruders to make their way down from the sewer entrance to this place.
With Louise Huizel, it won’t take even three minutes.
Regina felt a chill when she saw the pair of reddish-orange eyes looking toward her.
Instinctively, she was certain that the boy was already figuring out how to dispose of her.
At last, the heir of Winyak, whose appearance was so enchanting that he could have been mistaken for an angel, curled the corners of his lips upward.
āHow about we make just one promise, Kyrges?ā
Kallian lightly walked forward, gripping the back of the Imperial Guard Commander’s neckāthe same man he had just dragged out of the sewer that was practically a cesspit.
The muscular knight, who was much larger than him, was dragged along helplessly.
So there really is a holy relic in the Delphiam Imperial Palace that Winyak has failed to find.
The purest power of the stars.
The very power upon which the Transcendent families were founded.
And yet, in Delphiam, someone had secretly smuggled away a holy relic left behind by Winyak’s star…
Dangerous curiosity rippled through Kallian’s reddish-orange eyes.
I wonder what form it takes.
The legacy left behind by the star.
Mine.
A faint trace of the madness that had yet to completely disappear flashed within his reddish-orange eyes.
That holy relic belonged to him.
It had been decided so long, long ago.
The explosive power of a star, easily surpassing the supernatural abilities of humans.
Surely it would be beautiful and adorable, too.
Once he obtained Winyak’s holy relic as well, wiping out the remaining five Transcendent families would be child’s play.
Just imagining it made ecstatic excitement boil within him.
His heart pounded so violently that it felt as though it might burst through his ribs.
āHa…ā
Kallian stopped and covered his face with one hand.
There was no way to hide the expression twisting chaotically between laughter and tears.
āAhahaha.ā
A crimson eye gleamed through the gaps between his fingers.
How long had he waited for this day?
Just how long had it been…?
But the strange madness was quickly brought under control.
His senses were at least ten times more sensitive than those of ordinary people, and he had detected every movement of someone wandering around above them.
ā…You came quickly.ā
As he imagined the strawberry blonde girl restlessly bustling about, Kallian’s lips slackened into a foolish smile.
Everything beautiful and adorable belonged to him.
Kallian composed his expression and straightened his back.
Then he raised his left hand to his lips.
His left ring finger and wrist were wrapped in pristine white bandages that had remained completely spotless despite the chaos that had continued throughout the entire day.
Kallian stopped not far from the entrance and raised his head.
Looking up at the small ventilation shaft leading to the surface, he whispered softly.
āRosienne.ā
His voice dripped with honey-sweet affection.
He could vividly sense the child who had been bickering and wandering around with someone just above him suddenly coming to a halt.
Beneath the bandage covering Kallian’s left ring finger, the language of the spell engraved beneath his skin suddenly glowed red-hot.
A bright smile spread across Kallian’s lips.
It was an expression not even his father, Oen, had ever seen.
An innocent yet all the more dangerous affection sparkled in his eyes.
āI’m here.ā
The Kyrges sorcery manifested.
