Chapter 11
Mo Xingyuanâs face darkened, and he responded by slamming the door.
Hearing the loud noise of the door closing, Su Li smiled even more and carried the bowl to wash it.
In the huge house, Su Li lay on the bed and couldnât fall asleep.
She couldnât sleep well in a new bed, always tossing and turning.
She had just picked up her phone when an unfamiliar number appeared on the screen.
It was midnight. People she knew normally wouldnât call her at this time.
The phone rang for a while â whoever it was seemed very persistent.
Su Li answered.
âSu Li⌠I want to see you.â
She didnât recognize the number, but the voice was very familiar.
He Shumingâs voice was soft, with a hint of pleading. âCan you come to the hospital to see me?â
Su Li remembered the video of him being beaten.
Still in the hospital⌠It seemed he was hurt badly.
Before she hung up, she changed her mind.
âWhich hospital?â
â
At 1 a.m., the hospital felt much quieter than during the day. It almost gave the illusion that no sickness existed in the world.
She found the ward where He Shuming was staying.
The VIP ward looked more like a luxury hotel suite.
When she walked in, He Shuming was wearing a hospital gown, lying on the bed. His face was bruised in patches. Both his hand and leg were wrapped in casts.
âSu Li.â The moment he saw her, his eyes lit up, and he tried to sit up.
But his waist was strapped, and the moment he moved, pain shot through him. In the end, he could only stay lying down.
âI thought⌠you wouldnât come.â He Shuming smiled at her.
Su Li stood beside the bed, observing him.
Mo Xingyuan really hit hard.
âAre you okay?â Su Li asked.
He Shuming looked at his own arms and legs, his expression even showing some grievance. âNo.â
âWho beat you?â
âI donât know.â Mentioning it, rage flashed across his face again. âWhen I find out, Iâll kill him!â
Su Liâs heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to stay calm.
âThereâs always someone stronger. You should be careful before someone kills you first.â
He Shuming stared at her.
Su Li thought he had noticed something.
âYouâre worried about me.â His eyes brightened. âI knew it. You still love me.â
Su Liâs lips trembled. She swallowed the curse words she almost said.
âIâm married.â
âYou definitely donât love him.â He Shuming said with certainty. âWe were together for two years. How could you fall for someone else that fast? Su Li, divorce him. Iâll marry you.â
The mockery in Su Liâs eyes couldnât be hidden. âI donât love you.â
âHow is that possible? I later found out â you transferred your job back here for me.â He Shuming got emotional. âSu Li, I swear, Iâll never betray you again.â
Su Li never believed in vows.
Especially vows from someone who had already betrayed her.
âI have no intention of betraying my husband or my marriage.â
Since he didnât know who beat him, she didnât want to stay any longer.
She looked once more at his cast-covered hand and leg. âRest well.â
âSu LiâŚâ
She closed the door, blocking out his voice completely.
She let out a long, heavy breath. Sometimes she thought â it would be best if people like him could never get out of bed again.
â
From the time she left the house to the moment she stood at the door again, it had only been one hour.
When she went out, she had moved so carefully, afraid of waking Mo Xingyuan.
Now she was even more cautious.
As long as she got inside quietly, she wouldnât be afraid anymore.
Each time she pressed a number on the password lock, she frowned and felt nervous.
Why couldnât it be set to silent?
After entering the code, the small noise of the door opening made her bite down hard in frustration.
In the quiet, deep night, even breathing felt like it could disturb someone who was sleeping.
