Chapter 06
Going Shopping
Before long, a new email and an invitation letter appeared on the computer.
“Hm? What’s this…?”
After opening the email, a vein popped on Xiling’s forehead.
“What the heck? You’re telling me there’s not enough funding to pay the full bonus, so you’re replacing it with an opportunity to work for Fire Moth? Otherwise you’ll only pay sixty percent of the promised reward? Are you kidding me?!”
Xiling immediately contacted the person in charge to argue the matter. However, the other party’s attitude was unwavering.
“This is all the money we have. Want more? Sorry, impossible.”
No matter how much she argued, the answer remained the same.
At most, they were willing to throw in a small car.
But Xiling didn’t have a driver’s license, and Elysia was far too young to drive, so even if they accepted the car, it would be useless.
After a lengthy negotiation, Fire Moth finally agreed to replace the car with a top-of-the-line military-grade laptop, two satellite phones, and a portable radio terminal capable of connecting to the network.
“Phew… At least I managed to get something useful. I wonder when they’ll deliver everything. Hopefully Elysia can wait patiently…”
“Big Sister Xiling, have we already left the orphanage?”
“Mm. We’ll be staying here for a few days while we buy some things before leaving. Is there anything you’d like to buy, Little Elysia?”
Xiling gently rubbed Elysia’s head as she asked.
The moment she heard those words, Elysia’s eyes sparkled.
“Big Sister Xiling, can I really buy anything?”
Looking at Elysia’s shining eyes, Xiling subconsciously touched the wallet in her pocket, which wasn’t exactly overflowing with money.
“Well… probably… It should be fine, as long as it’s not too expensive…”
There was a trace of guilt in her voice, but she quickly concealed it before Elysia could notice.
“Yay! I love Big Sister Xiling the most!”
With permission granted, Elysia happily threw herself into Xiling’s arms, rubbing against her over and over. Her fluffy little head brushed against Xiling’s cheek, making it itch.
“Ahem… Elysia, why don’t you think about what you want to buy first? We’ll be heading out soon.”
“Huh? What are you talking about, Big Sister Xiling? Shouldn’t we decide after we get to the mall? Come on, let’s go! I can’t wait anymore!”
Seeing Elysia so excited, Xiling had a strong feeling that today’s shopping trip was not going to be an easy one.
“Alright, alright. But you have to stay close to me the whole time, okay, Little Elysia?”
After fastening her powered exoskeleton, Xiling was promptly dragged out onto the bustling streets by Elysia.
“Big Sister Xiling, I want to look over there. Can we?”
Following the direction Elysia pointed, Xiling’s gaze landed on a clothing store.
She looked at Elysia’s hopeful expression, then at her wallet—which, fortunately, wasn’t empty just yet—and slowly closed her eyes.
“Go ahead. If you find something you like, just let me know.”
“Yay! I love Big Sister Xiling the most!”
Elysia excitedly rushed into the clothing store and began browsing through the racks with great enthusiasm.
Knowing Elysia, she’s probably going to pick out all the cute pink dresses…
Leaning against the display window, Xiling watched Elysia while quietly thinking to herself.
Before long, Elysia called out to her.
“Big Sister Xiling, what do you think? Does this look good?”
Following her voice, Xiling turned to look.
Just as expected, it was a pink dress.
Still, Elysia really did have good taste. The soft pink dress looked absolutely adorable on her, perfectly complementing her cheerful and sweet demeanor.
Even the sales clerk standing nearby was so captivated by the sight that she momentarily forgot what she was saying.
“Mhm, it looks wonderful. It suits you perfectly, Little Elysia.”
