~Chapter 67~
âH-Hide quickly!â
Simon panicked, stomping his feet, and dragged us toward a large box in the corner.
 Thud!
Ricardo and I tumbled inside. Simon hurriedly threw a worn-out cloth over us.
Darkness.
I could barely move in the cramped space, trying to hold my breath.
Ricardo shifted slightly and adjusted my postureâhis hand brushing my waist.
âŚ!
We were so close that I could feel his breath.
I didnât know where to look, so I awkwardly turned my head⌠and ended up facing his chest.
 Thump, thump.
His heartbeat echoed right into my ear.
âUm⌠do you have a heart condition or something?â
Ricardo didnât answer. Instead, he pushed my face away with a look that seemed almost betrayed.
His hand on my cheek was strangely warm.
Just then, Simonâs voice returnedâcloser this time.
ââŚWhat brings you all the way out here, sir?â
âHmph! Your brother said he saw you climbing the mountain with outsiders!â
âOh, we already split up. Iâm from Bilpart too, you think I like outsiders?â
âYou talk smoothly, donât you? And yet you had the nerve to leave and try to become a mage?â
There were multiple footstepsâquite a few people.
âMy father didnât stop me, so what right does the village chief have to order me not to leave?â
âTell the truth. Where are they hiding?â
âFor goodnessâ sake, I told you, we split up! Why wonât you listen?!â
Simon snapped, his voice filled with frustration.
âAnd besides, you know how much I care about this cave!â
âSearch everything,â the chief ordered, ignoring Simon.
I started to sweat as the rustling of hands digging through the cave echoed around us.
âHey! I found all of that stuff, you canât just touch it like that! At least pay me if youâre going to!â
Footsteps approached dangerously close.
Ricardoâs hand quietly reached for his sword.
Just thenâ
âChief! The outsiders are headed north!â
âWhat? Why there?â
âWho cares why! Wasnât there an incident last time? Outsiders always bring trouble!â
Simon quickly added, âThen go! Stop accusing innocent people like me!â
His flawless act worked. One by one, the villagers left.
Silence.
ââŚI think theyâre gone now.â
I shifted to get up, putting pressure somewhere without meaning toâRicardo flinched hard.
âWaitâdonât!â
âWhat?! Why?!â
Startled, I jerked my hand back, and Ricardo scrambled too.
 Crash!
The box tipped over, dumping us onto the floor.
I stared at him, speechless.
His face was bright red as he huffed in embarrassment.
âPervertâŚâ
ââŚExcuse me?!â
He said it again, slower.
âYouâre a pervert.â
âWhat did I do?!â
Ricardo hastily straightened his clothes, still flustered.
âYou did the same thing yesterday. I shouldâve known.â
I just opened and closed my mouth, trying to come up with a response.
âThat was⌠for first aid!â
âUh-huh, sure.â
âOh yeah? And what about you touching my clothes like itâs nothingââ
Ricardo quickly reached over and clamped his hand over my mouth.
âMmfp!â
âLetâs stop. Please.â
I gave him a long, annoyed look until he slowly lowered his hand.
He then held his hand out.
âWhat are you planning to do with a pervertâs hand?â
âMaybe see where it leads.â
He helped me up with a light smirk, then pointed to my cheek.
âYouâve got dirt there.â
âHere?â
I rubbed my cheek with the back of my hand, but he hesitated.
Noticing I couldnât find the spot, he gently raised his bandaged hand and brushed my cheek with it.
Then he let out a soft chuckle.
ââŚâ
Feeling awkward, I mumbled,
 âYou couldâve just told me.â
âIâm not good at explaining things.â
I rolled my eyes and turned away.
The cave entrance looked darker than before.
Worried, I stepped toward the opening.
Outside, the sky was covered in thick, dark clouds.
âItâs going to rain soon.â
Ricardo followed, frowning slightly.
Plip⌠PlopâŚ
 Raindrops began to fall.
The soft drizzle turned into heavy rain.
Whishâ!
Suddenly, an arrow flew toward us.
Ricardo immediately shielded me.
The wind carried the sharp scent of blood.
His hand around me trembled.
âAre you okay?â he asked urgently.
âI⌠Iâm fineâŚâ
But my eyes were fixed on his shoulder.
Ricardo stood up quickly, despite the pouring rain.
âDamn.â
I stared at the blood on my hands, panicked.
Only then did I notice the arrow sticking out of his shoulder.
He frowned and yanked it out without hesitation.
âWhy would you do that?!â
My voice cracked with frustration.
âDo you want to lose use of that shoulder?! Why pull it out like that?!â
I ran back into the cave, desperately looking for medicine.
 There has to be somethingâpleaseâŚ
In the middle of searching, I realized something was wrong.
 Ricardoâs face was flushed.
I reached out and touched his forehead.
 Burning hot.
âYou have a fever too?!â
âIâm fine.â
âSince when have you been like this?â
ââŚâ
âNow that I think about it, even the first time we met, you seemed a bit out of itâŚâ
Ricardo blinked slowly, as if surprised.
ââŚYou were watching me?â
âWhat?â
âWhy?â
Wasnât I the one asking questions? How did this turn around?
âBecause⌠youâre not someone Iâd get to see often.â
ââŚ.â
âAnd this really isnât the time for questions.â
Frustrated, I shut my eyes tight.
âWhy did you even come with me like this? Youâre sick!â
âBecause I wanted to.â
âYou didnât even know how bad your condition was. Thatâs not braveryâitâs just stubbornness! And you donât even get treated on timeâ!â
Did he think Iâd be grateful for this?
Just because he took the blame for me in high society?
Did he think Iâd feel thankful?
I didnât know how to feel.
He didnât deserve the hurt I caused.
Yet I didnât know how to stop either.
What do you expect from someone like me?
Then Ricardo spoke quietly.
âI know. Itâs stubborn.â
His eyes trembled slightly.
âI know you probably hate itâŚâ
ââŚ.â
âBut if Iâm going to be hated anyway, I figured I might as well do what I want.â
My hands clenched tighter.
âI donât know what youâre talking about. Iâm going to look for medicine.â
As I turned to leave, he grabbed my hand.
âStop pretending, Bianca.â
ââŚ!â
He roughly pulled off the ring from my finger.
The ring clattered and rolled across the ground.
My pink hair fell over him like a veil.
He let out a bitter smile.
âSo it was you⌠all alongâŚâ
His voice trembled with disbelief.
Then he let out a pained sigh.
âHow could I not recognize youâŚ?â
Ricardo gently held the ends of my hair.
ââŚHow could I ever not know?â
I wonder what will happen when Ricardo realizes sheâs trying to go back to another world
Whoa. That was a lot in a very short span.
wait, are we gonna ignore the arrow? like, someone shot him a arrow?!
Phew đŽâđ¨
