Chapter 39: Nightmares Return
Shaole Yan felt dizzy, her heart racing. In the next moment, her legs gave way, and in front of the representatives from the two cities, she fell straight to her knees.
And where her knees touched the ground happened to be right in front of an exceptionally handsome young man, elegant and sculptural as if carved from marble.
Mu Jinsheng did not miss a single move of the woman who had stolen his sisterâs true love. From the moment she was helped out of the car by Fu Xingchen to the moment she suddenly knelt before him, his gaze never left her.
Beautiful, elegant, gentle, and sensualâshe was a completely different type from Jiajiao, though she couldnât exactly be called a goddess descending to earth.
If she could withstand Fu Xingchenâs extraordinary powers, it wasnât entirely unreasonable that she could conquer his steel-hard heart in such a short time.
It was probably just that he had been lonely for so long and, having finally found a woman permitted to be close, he mistook it for love.
Mu Jinsheng secretly pondered for a long time, shifting his gaze from Fu Xingchen supporting Shaole Yan to his sister, Mu Jiajiao.
The little girlâs eyes were red with anger, like a frightened white rabbit. She hadnât had much appetite these past few days.
Lu Chuchen was so anxious he bounced up and down, almost running to the central city to teach Fu Xingchen a lesson. Fortunately, he was stopped by his father; otherwise, it was uncertain whether the leadersâ regular meeting could proceed as scheduled.
Mu Jinsheng sighed, stretching out his long arms to pull Mu Jiajiao into his embrace.
âJiajiao, there are so many good men in the world. Letâs not hang ourselves on just one tree.â
Mu Jiajiao sniffled, lowered her head, and stared at the ground, saying nothing.
Mu Sheng, however, paid no attention to his childrenâs side, and the moment he saw Shaole Yan clearly, his eyes could no longer hold anyone else.
He had seen countless women, but in this post-apocalyptic world full of hardships, he had never seen a woman as fresh and enchanting as Shaole Yanâa delicate bud clearly cherished and protected.
His eyes went blank, and when he saw Shaole Yan fall, he hurried a few steps forward to help, but he was too far away to even touch the hem of her clothes.
Shaole Yan caught sight of his subtle attempt to approach, and her whole body trembled even more. Even Fu Xingchen couldnât lift her in a single attempt.
âYan Yan,â Fu Xingchen squatted to meet her gaze, concern overflowing from his eyes, âwhatâs wrong? Are you feeling unwell?â
Shaole Yanâs head was splitting, and memories from schoolâmemories of despair that should have been sealedâcame flooding back, an all-consuming pain that left her helpless.
âBrother!â
Fu Xingyan saw Shaole Yan in trouble and panicked like an ant on a hot pan. Forgetting about protocol, he quickly suggested,
âLetâs go inside and have a healer-type psychic check on Shaole Yan first.â
Mu Sheng nodded. âYes. Fu City Lord, put official matters aside for now. Miss Shaoâs health is the most important.â
Fu Xingchen immediately scooped Shaole Yan into his arms. âThen Iâll trouble you, Fu City Lord.â
He then nodded to Mu Sheng to lead the way.
Mu Sheng, without another word, left the dozens of people in Central City behind and turned to make a path for Fu Xingchen, who carried the fainted Shaole Yan.
Mu Jiajiao had been drowning in the pain of heartbreak, but when she realized that neither her brother nor her fatherâwho always treated her like a treasureâpaid attention to her, she was bewildered.
âBrother,â Mu Jiajiao poked her head out from Mu Jinshengâs embrace, looking like an innocent newborn rabbit, âwhatâs going on? Fu Xingchenâs wife just got out of the car fine. Why did she suddenly faint?â
Mu Jinsheng looked at his fatherâs anxious retreating figure and felt a sudden premonition of misfortune.
Seeing Mu Jinsheng frown, Mu Jiajiao also grew anxious.
âBrother, why arenât you saying anything?â
Snapping back to reality, Mu Jinsheng didnât want this potential trouble to affect the little girlâs mood. After all, given Shaole Yanâs special status, his father, no matter how absurd, would consider Fu Xingchenâs position and probably wouldnât act recklessly.
He smiled faintly. âI donât know. Maybe sheâs just not feeling well.â
Central City, Psychic Hospital
Shaole Yan lay on the bed, her face pale, eyes tightly shut, showing no sign of waking, as if trapped in an endless, torturous nightmare.
Fu Xingchen had seen her like this before, tormented by the man who had gouged her eyes and pierced her heart.
He instinctively connected the past and present, and no matter how subtly Mu Sheng inquired, he never revealed a word.
But Mu Sheng wasnât one to give up easily.
âFu City Lord, we just met not long ago. We meet again so soon. This time, you must stay a few days so I can properly entertain you and your new wife.â
Fu Xingchen had no intention of polite small talk. âWeâll see. If Yan Yan isnât feeling well, Iâll have Xingyan stay here to continue the meeting.â
Mu Sheng raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised by Fu Xingchenâs seriousness.
But at the sight of Shaole Yanâs stunning face and graceful figure, he felt a burning desire. Even the women who had lain in his bed didnât compare to half of her.
He thought, if he let such a beauty leave the city, heâd regret it for a long time.
Thinking this, Mu Sheng glared sternly at the psychic treating Shaole Yan.
âWhat? Madam Fu hasnât woken up? If you canât treat her, call back Bing Shan.â
âThe madamâs body is fine, but her mental state is very unstable. She may need a psychic specialized in mental healing more than a standard healer-type psychic.â
Fu Xingchen frowned. âCanât a healer-type psychic treat mental trauma?â
âThey can, but only a high-level healer like Senior Bing Shan. I donât have that capability.â
Mu Sheng slapped his thigh and shouted to his subordinate.
âDidnât I tell you? If you canât treat her, call Bing Shan back immediately!â
Lying on the bed, the familiar voice reverberated in Shaole Yanâs ears, like a demonic roar shaking her whole body.
She was afraid of being discovered conscious, but she had no courage to face it.
She couldnât understand. In this brand-new world of sweetness and pampering, even her ex-husband Xiao Yi was gone from her life. Why was there still someone exactly like the male teacher who had once violated her?
And this person wasnât an ordinary NPCâhe was the legitimate Lord of Central City, a position that could rival Fu Xingchen himself.
She began to question whether surviving this life was truly lucky.
If Leâan knew about this coincidence, would he regret saving her?
Before Shaole Yan could spiral further, the intense conversation in the room suddenly stopped, leaving only the deliberate sound of light footsteps in the quiet.
