Chapter 113 â The Dragonâs Appearance
âWhat theâ!â
Everyoneâs eyesâboth knights and spectatorsâturned toward the sound.
Across the street, a supply cart loaded with ingredients had suddenly tipped over while trying to force its way inside.
Neigh!
The startled horses reared up and neighed loudly. Several of Blenheimâs knights rushed over immediately.
âIs anyone hurt?â
âSomeone grab the reins first!â
Barrels filled with drinks rolled everywhere, shattering and spilling their contents.
The panicked driver shouted,
âI donât know what happened! They were fine, then suddenly went wild!â
From a distance, officials from the management office were running toward the scene.
âAre you all right, Your Highness?â
Norton approached and asked.
âIâm fine. I wasnât even that close,â I said, shrugging my shoulders.
What worried me more was that the tipsy envoys might wander too near and end up hurt.
The area quickly became noisy with people trying to help or just watching the commotion.
âTake care of the envoys first,â I said, âthen help clean up.â
âIâll be right back.â
Norton hurried off to give orders to the other knights.
For a brief momentâit was almost the first time that dayâI was left completely alone.
âGreetings, Your Grace.â
âAh!â
I jumped in surprise when a strange man in a hood suddenly appeared behind me.
From beneath the hood, I could see a long, unsettling grin.
âIt truly is difficult to meet someone as noble as you,â he said.
âSorry, but Iâm not buying anything,â I replied sharply.
Everything about him screamed suspicious merchant. Probably some scam artist whoâd heard the Grand Duchess would appear and came to sell fake goods.
The man gave a dry chuckle.
âAt this point, maybe Iâm the one mistaken. Is it my clothing, perhaps?â
He slowly lowered his hood.
His eerie yellow eyesâtinged with a faint red glowâsent a chill down my spine.
I glanced toward Norton.
He was still nearby, pointing and sending several knights to handle the overturned wagon. Thankfully, if anything happened, he could reach me quickly.
âWho are you?â I asked calmly, trying not to show my unease.
âIâm a sorcerer,â he said smoothly.
âA sorcerer? Like a fortune-teller?â
âThat sounds much nicer than âcharlatan,ââ he chuckled, the sound crawling up my spine.
âSo, what do you want from me?â
The man stopped smiling and stepped closer.
âHow about I read Your Graceâs future?â
Reading the future?
Apparently, business was booming in the shopping district if even illegal fortune-tellers had started showing up.
I raised an eyebrow sternly.
âDo you have permission for that?â
ââŚWhat?â
The sorcerer tilted his head, confused.
âTo do business here, you need a permit from the market office,â I said. âYou canât just sell things on the street like this.â
It wasnât as if everyone else was paying rent for fun.
The man blinked, then let out a disbelieving laugh.
âTruly, Your Grace is a strange one,â he murmured. âI was foolish to think I could treat someone like you as just another noblewoman.â
His voice grew lower.
âEnough of this silly pretense.â
âWhat is he talking about?â
His tone turned cold and eerie, making me instinctively step back.
Suddenly, his yellow eyes glowed bright gold.
âYâYour eyesâŚ!â
He reached out toward me.
I tried to move, but my body froze under his gaze.
Then, his rough hand grabbed my shoulderâ
âAnnette!â
I barely heard Loicâs voice before everything went dark.
What⌠is this?
When I opened my eyes, I was surrounded by darkness.
And right in front of meâtwo enormous golden eyes, slit vertically like a beastâsâstared straight at me.
I stopped breathing out of pure fear.
âDonât be afraid.â
A low, mocking voice echoed in the dark.
âI only came to greet you today.â
That wasnât a humanâs voice. That wasnât even a humanâs presence.
âDonât tell meâŚâ
Are you⌠a dragon?
The creature gave a deep rumbling sound, like laughter, as if to confirm my thought.
âWhat do you want from me?â
Why did a dragon appear before me?
The golden eyes moved side to side, scanning me.
âYour soul has finally returned to one piece,â it said, sounding pleased.
âWhat?â
Returned to one piece? Did that mean it had been split apart before?
âBut it seems youâve lost your memories,â it went on. âAt last, everything is returning to its rightful place.â
The dragon chuckled, low and satisfied.
I tried to stay calm, but his tone was full of excitementâtoo much excitement.
âIf this is good news for the dragon,â I thought, âthen it probably isnât for me.â
Does he have a grudge against me?
Though his words were soft, I sensed a strange hostility in them.
âI donât hate you,â the dragon said, almost as if reading my mind.
His slit pupils expanded gently.
âIf anything, I should say I desire you deeply.â
âWhat does that even mean?â The idea of a dragon wanting me was horrifying.
âI was foolish once, bound by my own pride,â he said. âBut in the span of eternity, even that mistake has meaning.â
I couldnât understand a single word of his cryptic speech.
Thenâ
âAnnette!â
Loicâs voice echoed desperately in the dark.
âLoic?â
Just hearing him brought me a wave of relief.
At least he was looking for me.
The dragonâs golden eyes drew closer. The air grew hot around my face.
âYour mate is calling for you,â he said.
Even without a visible mouth, I could almost see the dragonâs sly smile.
âI was right after all,â he murmured, voice fading like an echo.
âIn the end, everything will unfold according to my will.â
Loic stood beside the bed, his face tense.
A priest was examining Annetteâs wrist carefully.
Normally, Loic would never allow anyoneâpriest or notâto touch her, but this wasnât the time to argue.
At last, the priest let go of her hand.
âWell?â Loic demanded.
âShe definitely carries holy power,â the priest said, frowning slightly.
Heâd heard the rumors that Annette was a fake saintess, so he looked uneasy.
âHowever, itâs not in a complete state. As the mage said, it seems someone sealed her divine power long ago.â
He looked toward Enolius, who stood behind him.
âYou said earlier you could barely sense it?â
Enolius nodded.
âYes. Until recently, the holy power was faint. But nowâŚâ
He furrowed his brow.
âItâs definitely stronger than before.â
âDoes that mean the seal is breaking?â Loic asked, startled.
âI thought such seals were permanent.â
âNormally, yes,â said the priest. âOnly a high priest capable of great divine magic could seal power like this, and only the caster themselves could undo it.â
âBut in theory, if a force stronger than the sealing magic acted upon it, cracks could form.â
âA stronger force?â
âFor example,â the priest said quietly, âa dragonâs magic.â
Enolius added softly,
âYour Grace, youâve been transferring your dragonâs magic to Her Grace through physical contact.â
âSo⌠youâre saying Iâm the reason her seal is breaking?â Loicâs eyes widened.
âItâs not impossible,â the priest admitted. âEven the strongest lock can break if struck by a stronger hammer.â
Loicâs face reddened slightly as he muttered,
âSo because Iâve⌠touched herâŚâ
He hesitated.
âCould that harm her body?â
âQuite the opposite,â the priest said firmly.
âOpposite?â
He explained that the holy power within Annette was extremely pure.
âTo keep such strong divine energy sealed for so long wouldâve exhausted her body. Has she been ill often?â
âSince coming north, sheâs collapsed three times,â Loic said grimly.
Though this time, she had also been attacked.
âIf she regains her full power, sheâll likely grow much healthier,â the priest said.
âI seeâŚâ
Loic nodded slowly, covering his mouth as if to hide a small smile.
âSo, for her to recover, I have to keep⌠touching her?â
Just the thought made the tips of his ears turn red.
Knock, knock.
A knock came at the door.
Loic opened it to find Tiern standing outside.
After a pause, Tiern said heavily, âWe lost the culprit.â
His face was filled with visible shame.
âHe wasnât ordinary anyway,â Loic said quietly. âCatching him was unlikely.â
He didnât scold him, only nodded calmly.
âYou may dismiss your men.â
âButâ!â
As the door began to close, Tiern blurted out, âIs Her Grace all right?â
âSheâll wake soon,â Loic replied.
Which meantâshe still hadnât.
Tiernâs face fell.
Without another word, Loicâs silence told him to leave.
Tiern bowed deeply and stepped back down the corridor.
Omg thank youu for updated â¤
Thanks for the multiple chapters â¤ď¸ and for not ending the chapters with her still being captured, that would have been a very annoying cliffhangerâŚ. So Iâm starting to get the feeling this is one of those âdestiny/fateâ kinda loves, which are usually my fave, so exciting! Makes you wonder who would have sealed her powers tho, if it had to be a high priest or something, I donât think it was the dragonâŚ. And it definitely wasnât her father considering that he wanted her powers to flourish more than anyone, though for selfish reasonsâŚ. Once news gets out, heâs going to HATE himself for âsellingâ her off, I canât wait. Also, totally not surprised that sheâs ACTUALLY Annette, thatâs usually the case in most transmigrator novels. Makes me glad that sheâs actually Raphaelâs real sister, tho except for the older brother, the rest of the family donât deserve her. I hope she accepts the fact soon, and stop trying to divorce him. I hate when thatâs dragged on⌠I really really love Loic personality, heâs beyond sweet, and I donât want him to be sad in any way. Letâs hope things in their relationship, at least, go smoothly.
Ps- Iâm starting to feel really bad for poor TiernâŚ. I really hated him at first, for obvious reasons, but now I just feel like he seems like a sad depressed puppy. Cut the guy some slack! Let him save her for once and get his pride as a knight back! Also, still wondering who picked up the handkerchief he threw away, I used to the think it was Loic, but could it have been the dragon?! I wish I had a spoiler!!
May I know when the next update? Can’t wait for the next chapter, thank you â¤
