Chapter 30
“The Teacher’s Absolute Defense — Overwhelming the Challengers!”
Academy Event Arc: The Senryo Festival (Part 7)
The second day of the Senryo Festival — the Magic Division.
Following yesterday’s excitement from the Swordsmanship Division, the academy was once again ablaze with energy.
“Fireball!”
“Ice Formation!”
“Wind Blade Storm!”
On stage, the representatives of each class unleashed brilliant spells, dazzling the audience.
Class Cross, having been banned from participation, could only watch from the stands — but the students’ eyes sparkled as they cheered loudly.
Then came the finals.
A skilled class, mastering both fire and lightning, claimed the championship.
Amid roaring applause, the victorious students stood proudly on stage — and suddenly turned their gaze to the side.
“…Professor Kai. I hear your class won in the sword division yesterday.”
“Sure did. They worked real hard.”
“However—magic is the true essence of our academy. If you truly wish to call yourselves the strongest… then we challenge you to a duel!”
The audience erupted in murmurs.
“Wait, they’re challenging a teacher?”
“Still, I kinda wanna see it! Professor Kai’s magic battle!”
Excitement and curiosity rippled through the hall.
Kai folded his arms, thought for a moment—then grinned.
“…Can’t be helped. All right, come at me—all of you at once.”
“Wha—!? Against everyone!?”
“A teacher oughta face a whole class, don’t ya think?”
The crowd exploded with cheers.
◆◇◆
Kai stepped onto the arena.
Facing him stood over a dozen students—the champions of the Magic Division.
The referee hesitated, but after a single nod from the headmaster, declared the match begun.
“Begin!”
With a roar, fire, lightning, ice, and wind magic all surged toward Kai at once.
In an instant, the stage was swallowed by light and explosions.
“Professor!”
The students of Class Cross cried out.
But—
When the smoke cleared, Kai stood there unharmed.
The air around him shimmered faintly, like rippling waves.
“What is that…?”
“All their attacks… bounced off!?”
The spectators gasped.
Kai raised a piece of chalk and began sketching equations in midair.
“∮E·dS = 0. The total magical flux around me converges to zero. I call it… Absolute Magical Defense.”
At once, another barrage of fire and lightning descended—
But every spell shattered against an invisible wall and vanished.
“Im… impossible…!”
“No magic can reach him!?”
Then Kai snapped his fingers.
“Now for the reaction. ΔE = –∂Φ/∂t.”
Invisible ripples spread outward.
The challengers’ spells all went haywire—
Fire turned to smoke, lightning fizzled into static, ice melted into water, and wind became a mere breeze.
“Uwaaah!”
“I—I can’t cast anymore…!”
One by one, the dozen challengers collapsed to their knees, unable to stand.
The stands erupted.
“Professor Kai’s insane!”
“The teacher’s the strongest of all!”
The trembling referee shouted:
“Winner—Professor Kai!”
The hall thundered with applause and cheers.
Then, suddenly—
A single figure dashed up onto the stage.
“…Fight me too! With all your strength!”
It was Rutia.
Her cheeks were flushed, her breathing ragged, her eyes locked squarely on Kai.
“M-Milady!? What’re ya sayin’!?”
“It’s unfair! You only fight the other classes! I want to face your full power too!”
“Hold on now—going all out on a student’s a disciplinary offense!”
“No! I’m both your student—and your wife!”
“Don’t call yourself my wifeeee!!”
The audience burst into laughter and cheers,
and thus the Senryo Festival reached its grand finale—
with the teacher’s one-man domination and the tsundere villainess’s bold outburst bringing the house down.
