By morning, the grand stage at the center of the schoolyard was already filled to capacity with spectators.

The announcement was met with a roar of cheers.
The Martial Arts Classârenowned for producing knights generation after generation, and rumored to have the best swordsmanship in the academy.
In the audience, whispers spread:
âThis is where Class Crossâs run ends.â

The studentsâ voices trembled with unease.
Kai simply smiled.
âIâve said it beforeâdunno if we can win. But Iâve set up a way for us to win. The rest is up to yâall.â

A student from Class Cross faced off against an upperclassman from the Martial Arts Class.

A sharp thrust cut through the air.
The Cross student focused on defense but was quickly being overwhelmed.

A panicked cry.
From outside the ring, Kai shoutedâ

The student stepped half a pace sideways, tilting the wooden sword diagonally.
The opponentâs thrust veered off courseâleaving an opening.

The tip of the wooden sword struck the opponentâs shoulder cleanly.

The audience gasped in disbelief.

The Martial Arts Class sent out a towering swordsman.
He swung down with brute strength, forcing the Cross girl to block desperately.

The wooden swords groaned under the strain.
Kai barked another order:
âForce is a vector! Donât take it head-onâflow it sideways!â
Her eyes widened.
She angled her sword to the side.
Thud!
The impact deflected horizontally, unbalancing her opponent.
She lunged in and struck!

This time, the opponent was a technicianâfast and precise, driving the Cross student back with a flurry of blows.
âToo fastâŚ!â
Kai remained calm.
âHis speedâs constant. Read the rhythm! Counter on the third beat!â
âThe third beatâŚ!â
The student timed itâone, twoâand on the third strike, swung.
Clang!
The blades collidedâthen the opponentâs wooden sword flew from his hands.

The crowd erupted in chaos.

The match began.
The ace charged with blinding speed.
Rutia met his attack but was quickly being forced back.

âMilady! Seventy-five degrees! Weight to the back!â
Following Kaiâs command, she drew her sword back.
The opponentâs strike slid offâhis stance faltered.
âNow!â
Rutia stepped inâdelivering a diagonal slash.
Slash!
The opponentâs sword flew through the air and stabbed into the dirt.
âWinner, Class Cross!â
The arena exploded in cheers.
âClass Cross beat the Martial Arts Class!â
âUnbelievable! The magic class actually won!â
Rutia stood proudly, waving to the crowd, then ran to Kai and clung to his arm.
âOf course we won! Because weâre Professor Kaiâs students!â
âYeah yeah⌠acting like a wife already.â
âI am your wife!â
âDonât say that like itâs official!â
Laughter filled the standsâ
and Class Cross advanced to the finals.
