UM CH 03

 Chapter 3 

When the mother-in-law struck her, Yan Shuang fell hard, hitting her head on the table corner.
Her vision spun, pain roared in her skull, and the last thing she saw before blacking out was the older woman’s furious face.

When she regained consciousness, she realized she had been badly hurt and was in terrible pain.
Yu Jin was beside her—no longer gentle, but filled with a kind of selfish excitement that made her recoil.
She tried to stop him and demanded to know what he was doing, but he ignored her protests.

Yan Shuang cried out for him to leave, yet he coldly reminded her that she was already his wife and had no right to refuse him.
When she accused him of standing by while his family humiliated her, his temper exploded.
He struck her, shouting that she should have obeyed his mother and that she had disgraced their family.

Crying and trembling, Yan Shuang asked him what he really saw her as.
His answer was cruel—he insulted her and walked out, slamming the door, leaving her bruised, bleeding, and alone.

Through the night she drifted in and out of consciousness, hurting everywhere.
By morning, sunlight poured into the room as Yu Jin yanked the curtains open.
Startled and humiliated, she covered herself with the blanket, begging him to have some decency.
He mocked her instead, sneering that she was no longer “pure” and accusing her of having been with other men.

Yan Shuang tried to defend herself, but the words caught in her throat.
Yes, she had once loved someone before him, but that didn’t make her the person he accused her of being.

Yu Jin’s contempt only deepened.
He told her to pack her things and get out—that he wanted to end the marriage.

When she stared at him in disbelief, he grabbed her roughly and hissed that she had “deceived” him and that he would discard her.
