Chapter 10…
I knew it, I canât escape after all
On my way to the restroom, I suddenly felt like getting some fresh air, so I went out into the large garden.
Colorful flowers were blooming everywhere.
âThey must have a really good gardener,â I thought, as I admired the sceneryâuntil I noticed someone familiar among the flowers.
â Prince NobleâŚ? Whatâs he doing here?
Looking closer, he seemed to be admiring the flowers.
I was curious, but it wasnât wise to approach a main character of the story myself.
I decided to pretend I hadnât noticed him and quietly leave, butâ
âHey,â
â âŚI knew it, I canât escape after all.
Only main characters ever get saved when they think âsomebody help me!â
And since Iâve already been confirmed as a main character, thereâs no escaping it.
The path of a background extra is far, far away.
âThank you for earlier, Lord Noble.â
âDonât just start talking like nothing happenedâŚâ
He didnât sound angry, and that eased my nerves a little.
âItâs fine. What he did was my brotherâs responsibility. Of course I stopped him.â
âEven though heâs your brother?â
âHe calls himself that, but weâre actually the same age. The only difference is that I was born a little earlier. Itâs not that deep.â
As expected of the (presumably) Ice Prince.
Such a responsible and composed person.
A true-blue type character, through and through.
â Blue-type characters are much easier to deal with than golden-type ones.
Of course, by âgolden-type,â I mean that person.
Iâll refrain from saying his name, though.
âAnyway, standing around here isnât ideal. Shall we talk somewhere else?â
â Weâre already talking though?
I kept that thought to myself.
âCanât we just talk here?â
âIf someone who snuck out of the party sees us, itâll be troublesome.â
â Ah, true.
I really didnât need any rumors spreading.
âIf you donât want people calling you âthe sly fox who managed to capture both the first and second princes at her first party,â we can stay here thoughâŚâ
âLetâs move somewhere else.â
âQuick decision. I appreciate that.â
Well, obviously.
A rumor like that would be disastrousâ
it might even disrupt my precious reading time.
We moved deeper into the garden and sat on a bench made for two.
Prince Noble had said, âWeâve been standing at the party all night. Iâd like to rest a bit. Keep me company.â
âFor a seven-year-old, you really stood up to Bright impressively. That was a rare sight.â
â A rare sightâŚ?
Well, he wasnât wrong.
Refusing the First Princeâs indirect offer to join the royal palace was an odd thing to do.
But calling it a ârare phenomenonâ made it sound like I was some kind of exotic creature (which, to be fair, might not be wrong).
Looks like Iâll need to study how to handle conversations with main characters from now on.
âDo you dislike parties?â
ââŚWhy do you ask all of a sudden?â
That was quite the topic shift.
âWhen you were talking with Bright, it was most obviousâyour eyes were completely lifeless. You were radiating an aura of âI want to go homeâ the whole time.â
âEh!? Ah, Iâm so sorryâŚâ
I accidentally raised my voice in surprise. My bad.
âYou thought you were acting? You looked dead inside. Honestly, it was obvious, but Bright just pretended not to notice and kept talking.â
â âŚWait. Pretended not to notice?
That line caught my attention.
âThatâs right. Heâs persistent like that. Once he decides on something, heâll pursue it relentlessly.â
â No wayâŚ!
âSo he was using his royal authority to pressure me into joining the palace, even though I clearly didnât want to?!â
âExactly.â
âYouâve got to be kiddingâŚâ
âUnfortunately, Iâm not.â
Which means⌠the one who saved me from that messâPrince NobleâwasâŚ
â A literal god.
(âť purely my internal image, of course.)
