Chapter 53…
The Princess of Heat Haze’s Resolve.
“Even Bernard was in Yvette’s hands… I was away from home so often that I didn’t notice anything was wrong… I… I am truly unfit to be a father…”
At her father’s words, Felicia couldn’t hold back and began to cry. Yoan quietly offered a handkerchief and put it in Felicia’s hand.
“Her remarriage to Yvette must have proceeded with the king’s encouragement. So the king also feels responsible. He has allowed us to use the Rubellite Kingdom’s intelligence services to investigate information about the poison.”
“To have troubled His Majesty with this… I have no way to apologize enough.”
As Christoph bowed his head weakly, Yoan spoke with growing strength in his voice, as if to rouse him.
“The king does not want apologies. He only ordered that the truth be revealed. We must obtain proof and condemn Yvette without fail.”
Wiping her tears, Felicia nodded and took Christoph’s hand.
“Father, we will clear my brother’s grievance for certain.”
Then, determination burning in her eyes, she announced to everyone:
“I have an idea for how to obtain the evidence. Will you hear me out?”
What Felicia proposed was that she herself act as bait.
“That’s dangerous! Absolutely not!”
Yoan lunged to his feet so forcefully his chair toppled.
Felicia stared steadily into Yoan’s face so that he would understand her resolve; her crimson eyes carried a hint of worry beneath the surface as she said,
“Lord Yoan, however, I believe that is the most effective plan. My stepmother attempted to kill me twice already — if she learns I’m alive, she will surely try again. That will be the perfect opportunity to collect proof.”
“But that would put Felicia in far too much danger!”
