Synopsis
“Surely… you’re not telling me to go to Byte?”
Evelyn Evernizer, a maid serving the Kingdom of Hesta, is sent to the Empire of Byte in place of the princess simply because her hair and eye color match the princess’s.
The order comes by force from none other than Glena—the princess’s nanny and adoptive mother.
On the way to Byte, near the border, Evelyn is nearly killed when Hestan soldiers disguised as bandits attack her.
“…So, you are Princess Ophelia.”
“Who are you…?”
“I’m Reynard Theodore, Emperor of Byte.”
Saved by Reynard Theodore, the fearsome emperor who has conquered more than half of the Western Continent, Evelyn escapes death—but her true ordeal is only beginning.
“Tell me your name.”
“Ophelia—”
“No. I’m asking for your real name.”
She tries to escape in secret but fails, and her true identity is exposed.
Yet, for some reason, the Emperor of Byte orders her to continue pretending to be Princess Ophelia…
“Do you know what kind of consequences even the smallest act of pity can have?”
“I’m only returning the pity you once showed me.”
