Chapter 10: Fu Nanzhou Saves Me

Fu Nanzhou spotted Lu Xi from a distance, struggling with a man. His gaze darkened.

“President Fu, that’s your wife,” Ding Yu reminded him.

Fu Nanzhou gave Ding Yu a cold glance. “I’m not blind.”

With that, Fu Nanzhou strode over with his long legs.

“Cousin, let go of me!” Lu Xi struggled desperately while clutching the neckline of her clothes to keep herself covered.

Li Gang, however, seemed confused, his mind filled with thoughts of Lu Xi lying to him and needing to be taught a lesson.

Suddenly, he hoisted Lu Xi over his shoulder, pulled the keys from his trouser pocket with one hand, and hurried toward a high-rise building.

Lu Xi’s body stiffened like a board as she screamed desperately, “Help! Someone help me! He’s kidnapping me!”

There were quite a few people around the residential complex, but everyone merely stood by and watched.

“Sir, ma’am, please help me! He’s kidnapping me!” Lu Xi put her hope in the kind elderly people nearby.

“Isn’t that the man who lives in Building 19? I’ve seen him before. He seemed pretty quiet and honest.”

“He doesn’t seem right today. I heard there’s a man in Building 19 who has mental problems. Could it be him?”

“So what if it is? Are you brave enough to interfere? He looks like someone you shouldn’t mess with. We’re just out for a walk. We’d better not get involved. What if he comes after us later?”

Lu Xi burst into tears. “Sir, could you please call the police for me?”

Li Gang immediately glared angrily. “Whoever dares to call the police, I’ll kill their whole family!”

Everyone around them gasped and immediately backed away.

Lu Xi felt completely hopeless.

He had even threatened to kill someone’s entire family. Who knew what he would do to her today?

Li Gang angrily replied, “She’s my wife.”

Fu Nanzhou let out a cold laugh. “How come I didn’t know about that?”

“Get lost!”

“Ding Yu,” Fu Nanzhou called in a low, cold voice.

Ding Yu immediately stepped forward and kicked Li Gang in the knee.

Li Gang stumbled and nearly fell.

Fu Nanzhou caught Lu Xi as she came down.

“Call the police,” Fu Nanzhou ordered before carrying Lu Xi away.

Still shaken, Lu Xi remained in Fu Nanzhou’s arms, her face pale.

It wasn’t until they returned to the car that she finally seemed to regain her senses.

Fu Nanzhou frowned. “Were you frightened?”

Lu Xi nodded repeatedly. “Uncle Fu… he, he seems to have some kind of illness.”

“Mm.” Fu Nanzhou looked into the distance.

Ding Yu had already restrained the man.

Judging from the way Li Gang had behaved and spoken just now, he indeed seemed mentally unstable.

“How did you end up with him?”

Lu Xi lowered her head. “My sister’s mother-in-law introduced him to me. My sister said she wanted to have dinner with me, but she never told me that he would be there too.”

“You haven’t told your sister that you’re married?”

“Why did your sister’s mother-in-law introduce someone to you?”

Fu Nanzhou actually laughed.

“Your sister’s mother-in-law wants to use your bride price to buy a house? Do you owe her money?”

Lu Xi pressed her lips together.

“My parents divorced when I was very young, and neither of them wanted my sister or me.

“We originally lived with our grandmother, but after she passed away, there was no one left to take care of us.

“When my sister was taking her college entrance exam, I happened to have a fever. Because of that, she missed one of her exams and couldn’t get into university. She could only go to a technical school to study accounting.

“After she started working, she met my brother-in-law, and they soon decided to get married.

“My sister was worried about me, so she didn’t ask for a bride price when she got married. Her only condition was that she could take me with her and live with my brother-in-law.

“I’ve been living at my sister’s husband’s house all these years. My sister’s mother-in-law thinks I owe their family, so she wants to use this bride price to cover the living expenses from all these years.

“But I actually do contribute money toward the household expenses.”

Fu Nanzhou’s smile disappeared. His dark eyes fixed intently on the young woman beside him.

When she had first arrived at his house, her suitcase had been left by the door. She wasn’t wearing slippers, and when someone noticed, she had even curled her toes nervously.

Was that a habit she had developed from living under someone else’s roof for so long?

“Do you need me to handle it for you?” Fu Nanzhou asked.
