Chapter : 9
The greatest taboo in the Six Realms was upsetting the balance. Every tribeās diviner was an immensely powerful existence, tasked with overseeing the future and the past. Therefore, if any ominous sign appeared, it had to be addressed immediately.
Li Lingjiang rarely doubted the divination of demon clan seers, but at this moment, even she couldnāt help hesitating.
Her gaze dropped, trembling slightly as she asked, āAre all the omens the same?ā
The Gemini Star opened his mouth and admitted weakly, āAll of them are the same.ā
With a sweep of his sleeve, he revealed the omens to Li Lingjiang. āYour Majestyāā
Li Lingjiangās eyes flickered in shock as she saw the content reflected in the divination. She couldnāt hide her astonishment. How could she not understand the omens? She sometimes performed divinations herself.
Her lips moved, speaking softly: āItāsāthe life-and-death omen.ā
Humans have a cycle of life and death, and thus the concept of yin and yang exists. Once this omen appears, it is something that cannot be ignored. If it can be resolved, life continues; if not, it means death.
Her fingers moved quickly, and her brow gradually furrowed. āIndeed, itās the Ungoing Mountain.ā
She exhaled and, leaning on the armchair, stood up. Yin Wu, who had remained silent, immediately reached out to support her. Li Lingjiang gently refused and walked alone to the brilliantly blooming flowers, lowering her head in silence.
As the Gemini Star had said, Ungoing Mountain was not a place for permanent residence. Its grudges ran deep, yet generations of demon lords had perished there. Ordinary people who accidentally entered sensed its abnormality and would not rashly disturb it. Because of its extreme dangers, it deterred many curiositiesābut that was still different from the sheer number of people now seeking it out.
She bent down, dragging her fingers along a flower stem and slowly twirling it. A flash of inner conflict appeared in her eyes.
The Gemini Star was still young. Having just ascended to his position, encountering such a situationāone that could dishonor the prestige of the demon worldānaturally made him anxious and fearful. But Li Lingjiangās concern extended beyond fear: she considered how others would view their relationship and the perception of this newly appointed king once she had made up her mind.
āThe life-and-death omen must be resolved!
Li Lingjiang turned around, as indifferent as ever. āDemon Lord, what do you think?ā
The Gemini Star raised his head, narrowing his eyes at her.
āWho did you send here?ā
Rather than a question, it sounded more like a statement. Li Lingjiang had understood the intent the moment the Gemini Star explained himself. This king was like a bird longing for home, or a demon nostalgic for old possessions, and Li Lingjiang was the best choice. His arrival in a rush of anger and resolve meant he had likely already made up his mind.
Yet the Gemini Star could not accept this. He needed someone who shared his thoughts. But if Li Lingjiang had made a decision, suspicion might arise, and misunderstandings could follow. In this world, even a person on the brink of death had to be treated with caution.
The Gemini Star let out a low laugh. His gaze fixed on Li Lingjiangāsad, yet tinged with disappointment. He raised his voice: āYour Majesty, you remain the same. To prevent chaos in the human realm, other clans have each sent someone to mix in, to prevent mishaps.
Naturally, I sent someone I can trust, Your Majesty.ā
He stood, adjusting his sleeves, staring steadily. āThe depths of Ungoing Mountain are beyond even our observation. What lies within, we do not know. The laws of heaven and earth cannot be changed. If there truly is such a magical artifact, how are we demons supposed to act? Even if we destroy it, so what? Greed and deceit will slowly creep back into my people anyway.ā
The Gemini Starās eyes reddened. He stepped forward. āYour great work of a thousand years is about to crumble at my hands.
I am truly afraidātruly afraid.ā
Li Lingjiang remained silent. Her eyes seemed calm, yet she bent slightly as if in pain and forced a faint, strained smile. Finally, she said: āMy King, this cannot be avoided. Do not live in the shelter of my armsāyou must stride forward.ā
She no longer looked at him, adjusted her sleeves, and walked step by step into the house. Her steps were heavy. āDemon Lord.ā
āI understand your meaning. Ungoing MountaināI should take a proper look as well. Please, go back. I am a little tired.ā
Her figure was no longer as upright as before, yet she once again stood above all rivers and streams.
