Chapter 6
The Havi inside the comic had just awakened her power, just like me.
Beside Havi was a fairy that looked like it had been dried to a crisp in the fires of hell.
[Havi: I can feel a mysterious power!]
[Fairy: Congratulations! Havi, you have finally become a true Clavis! With that power, you can help people in need and defeat evil villains!]
[Havi: Wow! How do I use it?]
[Fairy: That power is Opening and Closing. It is the power to open and close things. You can open a bottle cap that won’t come off, and you can close the blood vessels of trash wearing human skin to cause arrhythmia and kill them——]
Snap!
I quickly closed the book.
The Bleached Demon was looking at me with a proud expression.
“How is it? Amazing, right?”
“……”
A demon was still a demon.
The next morning.
“Wake up! Wake up!”
The Bleached Demon struck the lid of an iron pot with a ladle repeatedly, waking everyone up.
“Gyaaaaah!”
“Ugh! Aaaah!”
We woke up as if having seizures and stumbled into the yard.
“You.”
Today, the Bleached Demon was wearing a bright blue silk shirt as he pointed at Uncle Modi again.
At this point, he definitely had some ulterior motive.
“Standard.”
“Huh?”
“Standard!”
“St-Standard…?”
Uncle Modi repeated the word without understanding.
“Everyone, spread your arms and keep your distance! Line up left and right!”
And so we formed four rows of ten.
“Morning exercises! Begin!”
Following the Bleached Demon’s movements, we started doing cheerful exercises to the song about a man who went to his ex-lover’s wedding and regretted everything too late.
After finishing the exercises, the exile residents gathered around the radio that had played the song earlier, staring at it curiously.
“Demons have a lot of amazing things.”
“Maybe they’re magical tools.”
“How does it work?”
“Bleached Demon Sir, can I touch this?”
“Don’t touch it carelessly! You’ll break it!”
When the Bleached Demon shouted, the exile residents giggled.
“Honestly, humans really do climb all over you whenever they get the chance.”
Although he complained, the corners of the Bleached Demon’s mouth were slightly raised.
Pretending not to notice, I said,
“I want to make a wish.”
“Oh, sure. Good timing. I was about to leave soon anyway.”
The Bleached Demon put a watch that looked like a smartwatch onto my wrist.
When he tapped the black screen with his finger, an upside-down pentagram appeared.
It reminded me of the bright red eyeball I had seen in the exile camp.
“Come to think of it, the long-haired demon gave me a winged eyeball before.”
“Ah, that?”
“Do you know what it is?”
“It’s a surveillance magical tool created by the Lord. Originally, Exilium was like a playground for the familiars the Lord takes care of. It’s used to check if the children are doing well.”
Apparently, all the monsters living here were snacks for the familiars.
Wow, even dogs can have such a good life.
In my next life, I should be born as a rich family’s dog.
I was even willing to accept being neutered.
“This watch is basically a free pass.”
“Oh?”
“It means you don’t have to spit every time you summon a demon.”
“Geh!”
The Bleached Demon lightly pressed down on my head.
It seemed he still held a grudge about how I had summoned him by spitting.
How petty!
He said I could learn the watch’s various functions by reading the book Clavis in One Volume.
“So, Little Ant. What’s your wish?”
“Please make these.”
I explained one by one the things the exile residents had requested.
A large cart, various farming tools, real swords, armor, shields, seedlings for summer crops, and many other things.
The Bleached Demon looked through the list written on paper and asked,
“You’re planning to earn money yourself? And leave this place?”
“Yes.”
“If that’s the case, it would be better to just wish for—”
“If I keep relying only on wishes, I won’t be able to do anything later.”
“……”
“We’re not ready to leave right away. So we need to try different things here and prepare. It would be troublesome if we stayed like baby birds that only wait for someone to feed them.”
“Social reintegration training, huh.”
A large hand messed up my hair.
“Good job!”
The Bleached Demon smiled brightly.
I kicked the ground awkwardly because I felt embarrassed.
Soon, white smoke and dazzling light began pouring out from beneath the Bleached Demon’s feet.
It was truly time to say goodbye.
Before disappearing, the Bleached Demon told me about the demon butler he would send me.
“He’s quite strong, so if you want to train, ask him for help.”
The Bleached Demon’s body gradually became transparent.
I hurriedly asked,
“When will the health checkup results come out?”
“They’ll arrive by mail in a week!”
“We don’t have a mailbox!”
“Then make one, brat!”
And that was how I said goodbye to the Bleached Demon.
After the demon disappeared, the things I had wished for were piled up in front of me.
In the morning, we chose one of the empty areas, plowed the land, and planted seedlings.
Tomatoes, potatoes, corn, peas, and more.
They were all vegetables that could be harvested in summer.
Meanwhile, the exile residents chose empty houses one by one and moved in separately.
Finally, they had their own private spaces where they could live freely.
At first, everyone felt awkward, but once they entered their homes, they were extremely happy.
I decided to continue living in the same house where I had first stayed with Ribi, Ian, and Aunt Dalise.
A seven-year-old child and a crazy woman needed guardians.
The Bleached Demon was only here for one day, but his absence feels huge.
Hiding my disappointment, I took the book and headed toward the playground.
In the residential area, there was a playground that must have once been for the children who lived here.
The long-haired demon had restored that place too.
“Oh my, where is our young lady going?”
“Our cute little Hevenia from next door!”
“Did you eat lunch?”
Whenever I passed by, the exile residents waved and greeted me.
“I’m going to study!”
When I held up my book, the adults smiled proudly and encouraged me to take it easy.
My steps toward the playground became slightly lighter.
Sitting on a bench half-covered by the shade of a tree, I checked the watch on my wrist before opening the book.
“What kind of civilization do demons have…?”
The watch looked exactly like a smartwatch connected to a famous smartphone company.
I searched the index of the book for the section labeled “Watch” and checked it.
Once again, the main character Havi was asking the fairy for advice.
[Havi: Look! This is the watch I received as a gift from the demon!]
[Fairy: Amazing, Havi! You earned the demons’ trust! This watch is called ‘Chosen Trust’ and allows you to summon demons anytime, anywhere!]
[Havi: Anytime, anywhere?]
[Fairy: If you register a summoning circle in the watch, you can summon demons without drawing the circle again.]
Besides that, it had functions like time, calendar, phone calls, heart rate measurement, step counting, music playback, and photography.
…This is really a smartwatch.
Seeing advanced technology from my old world again made me happy.
“Then, should I try summoning?”
To register the summoning circle and summon my butler, I used my shoe heel to draw the circle.
I hope a kind and cool demon appears. Since he’s a butler, will he be older? They said he’s a powerful demon, so it would be nice if he could help me train too. And…
As I finished drawing the upside-down pentagram, my foot slowly stopped.
Could Ian oppa train together with him too?
Among the things I requested from the Bleached Demon were a real sword and shield.
Those were Ian’s requests.
He said he was kicked out because of his comrades’ betrayal.
He had watched his fellow knights frame him and drive him away.
He had every reason to hate knights because of that betrayal.
But Ian didn’t.
Instead, he was happy that he could train swordsmanship again.
However, the bitter smile he showed remained clearly in my memory.
Actually, all the exile residents had made that expression whenever they checked the things they requested.
Sigh. The world really is unfair and cruel.
I extended my left hand wearing the watch and used the “photo” function to save the completed summoning circle.
“Let’s see, next…”
To summon a demon using the watch, I had to shout the word “Summon.”
It sounds exactly like a magical girl’s transformation phrase. It’s embarrassing.
But I wanted to try it at least once, so I gathered my courage.
“S-Summon!”
At that moment, I smelled warm earth.
It smelled exactly like a summer morning after rain had fallen all night and the sky had cleared.
Above the summoning circle glowing faintly, something unknown shot high into the sky at incredible speed before landing gracefully.
Soft wheat-colored hair fluttered.
“Hello!”
A male student wearing a school uniform with a hoodie underneath smiled brightly.
“It is an honor to meet you and serve you, Lady Clavis!”
I had vaguely heard that demons took on the most perfect appearance possible to tempt humans.
Maybe it was from movies or something.
The demons I had seen so far were all incredibly beautiful.
This demon was no different.
A kind and handsome face, a tall height with a sturdy build, a friendly manner of speaking, and a pleasant voice.
He was basically the first love of every schoolgirl.
He looks like a middle school student. Around fifteen?
I had imagined a mature adult because he was a butler, so his appearance surprised me.
“Y-You look young…”
“Yes! I am the famous youthful-looking butler! I defeated countless competitors and was chosen! Ahem!”
The school-uniform demon proudly patted his chest.
He was such a friendly and likable demon that my surprise quickly disappeared, replaced by happiness.
Suddenly, I thought of my younger brother from my previous world.
He once followed me more than anyone else.
But as he grew older, he became the person who insulted and tormented me the most.
You always shouted that you didn’t need someone like me.
If my body is still alive in that world, I hope it has already died and rotted away.
I never want to return there.
I’m sorry to the little girl who owns this body…
While thinking that, I suddenly tilted my head.
The school-uniform demon tilted his head too while smiling.
Come to think of it, the Bleached Demon seemed to know I came from another world. The long-haired demon did too.
Does this demon know as well?
I asked just in case.
“Do you know about possession?”
“Of course!”
The school-uniform demon answered naturally.
“Our demons communicate with many different worlds. There isn’t only one world. So we occasionally encounter people who have possessed other bodies.”
“Then…!”
“Yes!”
The school-uniform demon smiled brightly.
“Possessed people are executed immediately upon discovery!”
