Chapter – 63

“It’s such a pity. I thought I’d get to see you, Sister,” Ning Xuechu said with a disappointed expression. She then carefully reminded her, “Then you should drink less and come back early to rest, so you won’t have a headache tomorrow.”

What she really wanted was for An Jianqing not to drink at all—but that was impossible. As the company’s president, An Jianqing could never avoid business banquets.

“Alright. You too, Xuechu. These partners are all Alphas—be careful,” An Jianqing said worriedly.

Ning Xuechu nodded, picked up the trash she had gathered, and said, “I’ll head out first.”

An Jianqing stood up and walked her to the door.

As the two stood at the doorway, they happened to run into Du Rong, who had just come out.

“Secretary Ning, why are you in President An’s room?” Du Rong asked in surprise, her voice rising unconsciously as her thoughts began to wander.

“We just had breakfast together,” An Jianqing explained.

Hearing that, Du Rong felt relieved, though a trace of jealousy rose in her heart. She pressed her lips together and said coldly, “Secretary Ning, we should go.”

Ning Xuechu responded and waved goodbye to An Jianqing before following behind her.

The two entered the elevator together, neither speaking.

Du Rong’s expression was serious as she stared at the changing floor numbers. When the number turned green, she stepped out before the doors had fully opened.

Ning Xuechu narrowed her eyes slightly. She sensed something was off about Du Rong today.

She seemed distracted, as if hiding something. She had even left without putting on lipstick—something Du Rong herself hadn’t noticed.

Softly, Ning Xuechu reminded her, “Manager Du, you forgot to put on lipstick.”

“Did I?” Du Rong’s face flashed with discomfort. She took out a mirror and confirmed she hadn’t applied any.

She opened her bag to find her lipstick, but accidentally dropped the bag, spilling its contents all over the floor.

A hotel key card fell by Ning Xuechu’s feet. She bent down to pick it up. Seeing the number 521 printed on it, her brows subtly furrowed. She casually slipped the key card into her pocket.

“Manager Du, your things,” Ning Xuechu said as she gathered the rest of the items and handed them back.

“Mm, thank you.” Du Rong quickly took them and stuffed everything back into her bag.

The once neatly arranged bag was now bulging and misshapen from her careless packing.

Ning Xuechu said nothing and quietly followed behind her.

After signing the contract with the business partners, it was already evening. The other party warmly invited them out for drinks.

Du Rong couldn’t refuse and agreed.

Before leaving, she reminded Ning Xuechu, “Only drink unopened bottles, and always keep an eye on your glass.”

“Okay,” Ning Xuechu replied seriously.

The private room had been reserved by the partners. When they arrived, two scantily dressed Omegas were dancing and singing inside.

The air was filled with the smell of alcohol and a faint Omega scent. The light Omega pheromones wouldn’t cause Alphas to lose control, but they would excite them.

Du Rong toasted the two men, then went to sit in the corner.

The partners knew Du Rong’s temperament well. With the Ning family backing her, they didn’t dare act inappropriately toward her.

But toward Ning Xuechu, the newcomer, they had no such reservations.

One of them laughed and said, “Although Secretary Ning is just an ordinary Omega, in terms of looks and figure, she’s even better than those two. Manager Du, will you give us some face and let her drink a couple of glasses with us?”

Du Rong frowned. “She can’t handle alcohol. Two glasses at most.”

“Manager Du, don’t be so stingy. How can someone in business not know how to drink? Let us help her build her tolerance today.”

Before Du Rong could respond, a glass of wine had already been placed in front of Ning Xuechu.

Refusing would mean offending them—but if she really drank it, it wouldn’t stop at two glasses.

Du Rong looked tense.

She didn’t like Ning Xuechu, but after all, Ning Xuechu was her subordinate. She didn’t want anything to happen to her.

Before she could speak, Ning Xuechu picked up the glass and downed it in one gulp.

“Good tolerance! Come, another glass.”

Ning Xuechu kept drinking. By the fifth glass, her eyes were unfocused, and she began muttering nonsense. “So many stars… I’m going to pick them all.”

As she spoke, she staggered inconspicuously toward the door.

“There are so many stars here too, and they’re moving… Don’t run! I’m going to catch you…” She lunged toward the light spots on the wall.

Seeing this, Du Rong said to the two men, “She belongs to President An. She’s already had her two glasses. I’m taking her back. If anything happens to her, I can’t bear President An’s anger.”

“So she’s President An’s person? Send President An our regards,” the two men said, no longer daring to insist.

Du Rong helped Ning Xuechu out. Fortunately, Ning Xuechu didn’t make a fuss and obediently followed her.

After putting her in the car, Du Rong drove back. When they arrived, she paused in thought, then closed the car door and left alone.

Ning Xuechu opened her eyes—clear and completely sober.

Watching Du Rong’s figure disappear, a slight smile curved her lips. She got out of the car and walked off in another direction.

An Jianqing was drinking with clients. Given her status, they didn’t dare force drinks on her.

Among the group, she drank the least. Yet gradually, she began to feel intoxicated.

A sudden wave of weakness passed through her body, and she almost couldn’t hold her glass.

An Jianqing’s heart tightened. She quickly scanned the room. Everyone was loudly drinking and playing games; no one was paying attention to her.

The wine she was drinking had been ordered in advance from the hotel and delivered directly to her by the waiter. No one else in the room had touched it.

For a moment, she couldn’t figure out what had gone wrong. Before the alcohol fully took effect, she stood up and headed for the door.

“President An, why are you leaving? A distinguished guest will be arriving soon,” one Alpha called out loudly.

“Who?” An Jianqing asked, gripping the doorknob as she turned back.

“President Qiu. The bottle you’re drinking was specially sent by President Qiu.”

An Jianqing’s heart trembled. She couldn’t believe that Qiu Mengxi would resort to such underhanded tactics against her.
