Chapter 6
“Father?”
Yuris let out a confused voice.
But Mishnight did not answer.
His gaze was fixed directly on Verunoa.
A heavy silence fell.
The first to speak was Verunoa.
“Were you hiding it?”
His tone was not accusatory.
It was a simple question.
Yet at those words, Shurles’ eyebrow twitched.
“…It was to protect my daughter.”
His voice was low.
“Sole was frail and sickly. That alone was enough.”
“I see.”
Verunoa nodded quietly.
Then—
“That is why you failed to notice.”
The moment those words left his mouth—
The air turned cold.
Aalto stepped forward.
“Choose your words carefully, Prince Verunoa.”
But Verunoa remained unfazed.
His sapphire eyes stayed fixed on Sole.
“The fact that she has survived nearly fifteen years in that condition is abnormal in itself.”
Sole blinked.
“What are you even talking about???”
Could someone please explain?
This was terrifying.
Then—
Verunoa slowly walked toward her.
The knights immediately drew their swords and pointed them at him.
“Stop.”
“Don’t come any closer.”
“Stay away from the young lady.”
But—
Verunoa paid them no attention.
Instead, he tilted his head as if genuinely puzzled.
“Why are you so wary of me?”
“Because of course we are!!”
Shurles finally snapped.
“You barged in without permission and started talking about my sister like she’s some dangerous object! Who would trust you?”
“She is dangerous.”
An immediate answer.
The atmosphere died on the spot.
Sole thought:
(This guy definitely has a terrible personality!!!)
But then—
Verunoa’s gaze dropped to Sole’s hands.
The small magical beast was still pressed tightly against her.
“…”
Verunoa narrowed his eyes slightly.
“It hasn’t gone berserk.”
“Huh?”
“Normally, someone your age with that amount of magical power would already be destroying everything around them.”
Sole stared blankly.
She had no idea what he meant.
But—
Verunoa’s eyes were completely serious.
“You have suddenly developed fevers before, haven’t you?”
“Eh?”
“You collapse for no apparent reason.”
“…!”
Sole’s face stiffened.
It was true.
Many times.
Without warning, she would suddenly feel cold.
Then a fever would come.
And she would be unable to move.
But she had always believed it was because her body was weak.
Verunoa continued.
“That is your vessel reaching its limit and forcibly releasing magical power.”
“…”
“Under normal circumstances, it would have broken long ago.”
His voice was calm.
That made it even more frightening.
For the first time, Sole felt a chill spread through her entire body.
“…Am I going to die?”
The moment she asked that—
Everyone in the Neferiate family changed expression.
“Sole!!” Yuris shouted.
“That’s not true!” Shurles barked.
“I will never allow that to happen.” Mishnight declared.
The air trembled with emotion.
But—
Verunoa alone continued looking at Sole calmly.
And then—
“At the moment, the possibility is high.”
Everyone froze.
“Prince Verunoa!!”
Angry shouts erupted from all sides.
Sole herself went rigid.
Yet Verunoa’s expression never changed.
“However.”
Only his voice echoed quietly through the garden.
“There is a way to save you.”
Silence instantly fell over the area.
Mishnight’s eyes sharpened.
“…What is it?”
Verunoa answered slowly.
“We will place her under protection in the neighboring kingdom.”
The air froze.
