Story 79
The Murder Next Door
There was once a murder case in a quiet residential neighborhood lined with single-family homes.
A young married couple had been killed in their own house.
And it wasn’t just “nearby”—it happened right next door. The newly built home immediately to the right of ours, where my family lived, was the crime scene.
The perpetrator was caught quickly.
The killer turned out to be a middle-aged man living alone in the house to our left.
So whatever trouble had happened must have taken place between the households on both sides of ours.
I still don’t know what kind of dispute arose between them.
But according to rumors, the murdered wife and the man who killed her had been romantically involved.
Come to think of it, I had seen that man helping the couple with their yardwork, pulling weeds with them in front of their house.
What happened after that is another story entirely—
because ever since that incident… strange things have been happening in our house.
