I Went to My Friend’s House in a Haunted Apartment

Recently, my friend A-man moved.

To a haunted apartment.

Apparently, a man who had lived in that unit had died under unusual circumstances. On top of that, he was a student who had been quarreling with his family and had been skipping university frequently. No one thought much of it, assuming he had just dropped out, so his body wasn’t discovered for quite a while.

Apparently, the rent in “accident properties” is cheaper. Even though the building was old, it was spacious and reasonably close to the station. A-man decided immediately and moved in right away for just 35,000 yen.

By the way, I helped A-man move along with some mutual friends. The apartment is a rather large 1LDK, and since it had been renovated, the age of the building didn’t really matter.

I couldn’t help but be envious that he could live there at such a low price.

Well, except for the fact that it’s a haunted apartment.

After that, I got busy with work and didn’t hang out with A-man at all. But through one of the friends who helped with the move, I heard that A-man had been acting “creepy” recently.

I thought, “Creepy? What does that even mean?” But after hearing the details, it really did sound creepy—or rather, unsettling.

When we went out drinking, A-man seemed normal, just like always. He was perfectly fine when outside.
But when we hung out at his new place—the haunted apartment—his behavior apparently changed.

For one, his movements became a bit jerky.
Then, suddenly, he would start laughing for no reason.

And the most unsettling part: even while having a perfectly normal conversation, he would somehow start crying mid-sentence.

At that time, I was a bit busy, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I decided to go to A-man’s apartment to hang out.

One weekend, four of us gathered at A-man’s place to play games.
At first, we got really into the games.
A-man had a huge collection of games, so I figured it would be an all-nighter.

I even started thinking, “Huh, this is normal after all.”

But eventually, I noticed that the other two—besides A-man and me—were acting restless.
Somehow, I started to feel restless too. It seemed the other two noticed that I had started feeling it as well.

The guy next to me leaned over and whispered:

“Isn’t A-man acting kind of
 weird?”

We were all lined up in front of the TV, but I was sitting directly opposite A-man and couldn’t see him, so I hadn’t noticed. The other two, however, clearly had.

Sure enough, A-man’s behavior was off. Something about him was just
 wrong.

His movements were jerky. Even when losing in the game, when he should have been frustrated, he laughed gleefully for no reason

It was terrifying.

I got scared and left A-man’s apartment as fast as I could, heading home.

Two weeks passed in the blink of an eye.

Then I got the news: A-man had passed away.

Apparently, he had committed suicide.

His suicide note reportedly said only: “A woman has possessed me.”

It was a really unpleasant and unsettling ending.
