Story 46
Cursed by the Cursed Story
When I was in elementary school, there was this rumor going around — a story that if you heard it, you’d be cursed.
It went something like this:
A young girl had died in a traffic accident. Afterward, her spirit haunted the intersection where she was killed, appearing there and causing new accidents to happen.
The intersection where it supposedly happened was about a kilometer away from our school — where the highway entrance met the main road.
There really were a lot of accidents there. Some fatal.
No one knew if a girl had actually died there or not, but still…
It was one of those local ghost stories that gets passed around — half urban legend, half “it could be real.”
But the chilling part — the hook of the story — was this:
If you ever found out why the girl became an earthbound spirit, you’d be cursed by her.
And everyone who learned that reason would end up dying in an accident.
That detail was what really caught everyone’s imagination back then. It spread fast among us kids.

I was in third grade at the time.
My friend, B-kun, had apparently looked it up online. He found out the reason the girl became a spirit.
He was so freaked out that he couldn’t stop talking about how scared he was. When I asked him what happened, that’s what he told me.

Ten years later.
–––
B-kun died in an accident.
Right now, I’m at his funeral.
–––
They said it happened in broad daylight.
A truck was coming off the highway when it hit him.
Apparently, B-kun stepped out into the road during a red light — right in front of it.
It was all caught on the dashcam, and several witnesses said the same thing.
Some of our classmates are whispering that maybe it was suicide.
But I don’t think so.
I think… after ten years…
he was finally cursed.
