Story 5
THIS MAN?
Have you heard of THIS MAN?
It’s that urban legend about a man called THIS MAN who appears in people’s dreams. You could say it’s a world-famous urban legend.
When I was in the third grade of elementary school (back before THIS MAN had even become a trend), I happened to overhear a girl in my class talking about how a creepy foreign man was appearing in her dreams every single night.
Hearing that reminded me of my younger brother, who was a year below me, crying every night because a scary man kept appearing in his dreams and he didn’t want to go to sleep.
Right away, I told that girl about my brother. She said that her twin sister was seeing the same man in her dreams, too.
The twin sisters who dreamed of the creepy foreign man were quite talkative, so they spread the story not just throughout our grade but throughout the entire school.
As a result, about twenty people—including the twins and my brother—said they had seen the creepy foreign man in their dreams not just once but multiple times. Even our homeroom teacher mentioned recently having dreams about a foreigner who kept speaking to them in a language that wasn’t English and that they didn’t understand.
From the testimonies of the children who’d had these dreams, it wasn’t completely clear if it was the exact same person, but they all described him as a blond white man with a beard (apparently a pale-looking beard, since he was white). Of course, since we were elementary school kids, I’m sure a few of them were making it up, but for a few months after that the whole school was in an uproar over this.
There might be lots of stories like THIS MAN. Maybe there’s some kind of trigger, or it’s like a form of hypnosis. Dreams really are mysterious things.
