Chapter 26
Moonlit Night and the Date
We left the hamburger shop and stepped into the shade.
âItâs only one oâclock. What should we do next?â
âEh?â
Tsukiyo made a surprised little sound, as if she hadnât expected that question at all.
âUh, um, wellââ
âWait, you werenât planning to just watch a movie and call it a day, were you?â
Tsukiyo nodded apologetically. Itâs only the beginning of the afternoon. If we stop now, this whole date plan would fall apart halfway through.
Then again, I have no idea what people actually do on dates either.
âWhat do you usually do when you hang out with your girlfriends?â
âLetâs see⌠We chat at cafĂŠs, go look at clothes, or sometimes play at arcades.â
âWell, aside from the cafĂŠ, why donât we go look at clothes? That sounds pretty date-like, doesnât it?â
At that, Tsukiyo lowered her head, covering her face with both hands, pretending to cry.
âUuugh⌠I already spent all my money this month buying these clothesâŚâ
âOh, I seeâŚâ
Sorry, if I were rich, Iâd buy you brand-name stuff or whatever you wanted⌠but thereâs only so much a high schoolerâs wallet can handle.
With her looks, Tsukiyo could probably catch the eye of some rich boy easilyâthough sheâd definitely hate that.
âSo, what do boys usually do for fun? Like, what do you and my brother do when you hang out?â
âWe either read books at Seiyaâs place or just talk.â
âNow that you mention it, youâre always at home, arenât you? Iâm really sorry about my brother.â
Well, when itâs just guys, we never spend money anyway.
He even plays mobile games completely free-to-play, enjoying how far he can go without paying.
Other than thatâŚ
âThereâs karaoke, bowling, sports stuff too. Oh! Iâd love to hear you sing, Tsukiyo.â
âN-no no no! Absolutely not! Iâm terrible at singing!â
âBut youâve got such a pretty voice. I wouldnât mind even if you werenât great.â
âNo way, no way! Iâd bite my tongue and die!â
âYou donât have to take it that seriously.â
With Tsukiyoâs firm refusal, karaoke was officially off the table.
Maybe Iâll ask her friends sometime what her singingâs actually like.
That leaves⌠something sporty, butâ
âWith that outfit, exercise is kinda impossible, huh?â
âUghâŚâ
Mini skirt and bootsâdefinitely not clothes for moving around. She could change, but she clearly didnât plan for that.
Still⌠her pale legs peeking out from under the skirt are almost too captivating.
Tsukiyo drooped her shoulders.
âIâm sorry⌠I tried so hard to look nice, but Iâm just useless.â
Watching her flustered like this is kind of fun, honestly.
I couldnât help but laugh.
âYou donât have to laugh at meâŚâ
âSorry, sorry. Then how about we just walk around the mall?â
Tsukiyo cheered up again, and we strolled together through the cityâs biggest shopping mall.
Even if we didnât buy anything, window-shopping like this was nice.
StillâŚ
âPeople keep heading that way.â
âThatâs the event hall, I think⌠Sometimes celebrities show up there. Wanna check it out?â
We made our way to the event space.
Whoa, tons of people. Whoâs here today?
A nearby sign said that the popular idol group ăIceă was holding a mini live performance.
âLooks like ăIceă is here.â
âTheyâre so popular! Oh, the live showâs just about to start!â
âThe new album they released recently was really good.â
âI listened to it! Lots of gentle ballads this timeâI loved it.â
The circular event stage at the back of the mall was packed with people.
ăIceă, a five-member idol group of high school girls, had become incredibly popular lately thanks to their singing, dancing, and stunning visuals.
There was one special reason why Tsukiyo and I were both fans of this group.
The live had just begun.
Each member of ăIceă introduced herself in turn.
One of themâa blonde girl with semi-long hairâstepped forward with a light, lively dance and waved to the crowd.
âIâm Hii-chan~! Thanks for coming, everyone~!â
Her voice was bright, clear, and resonantâit carried all the way through the hall. The audience responded with loud cheers. Idols really are amazing.
âHii-chaaan!â
Tsukiyo shouted back, but of course her voice didnât reach.
Ahâbut Hii-chan looked our way and waved!
Maybe she really did notice Tsukiyo. Impressive.
After about twenty minutes, Hii-chan stepped back, and another member began her solo song.
At that moment, Tsukiyoâs phone buzzed.
âItâs from Hii-chan!â
YesâHii-chan was our friend.
