Chapter 10
Jealousy, My Foot
“Shall we get up now?”
The liquor bottle on the table was empty, but neither Lee Soo nor Jung Hyuk was drunk.
“You have quite a strong tolerance.”
“Mr. Moon Jung Hyuk, your face color hasn’t changed even once either.”
Lee Soo had said she would take a taxi and return to the company to stay up all night, but her words did not work at all.
Jung Hyuk, who noticed her intention, asked in a low voice.
“If that’s what you’re planning, wouldn’t a hotel be better?”
“I’m just going there to work. I’m really in the mood right now. Ideas for the next game we’re going to release are coming to me nonstop.”
Jung Hyuk told the designated driver to change the destination to Honey Dream Tree.
About 20 minutes later, a familiar building came into view.
“Thank you for your hard work.”
The designated driver thought the fare would be reduced because the distance had become shorter, but when Jung Hyuk handed him two 50,000 won bills, the driver smiled brightly.
“Why are you getting off, Mr. Moon Jung Hyuk?”
“Because right now, I’m Han Lee Soo’s ex-boyfriend.”
She was about to ask what that had to do with anything, but Jung Hyuk spoke firmly and walked ahead.
“I don’t leave a woman alone in a place like this at this hour.”
A place like this?
Since it was late at night, the entire building except for the first floor was dark, making it look a little gloomy.
But it was not a dangerous place. It was just her company.
“Staying here overnight is normal for me. So you can just go.”
“Let’s go up. The designated driver already left.”
Unable to argue any further, Lee Soo got off at the fourth floor, tapped her security card, entered, and turned on the lights.
But today, the office looked especially messy.
“It’s not usually this messy…”
Lee Soo hurried around, organizing the scattered items while making excuses.
Then she pointed toward the recliner sofa in the corner.
“Mr. Moon Jung Hyuk, sit there.”
She guided him to the most comfortable seat and headed toward her own desk.
“But what are you going to do? I’m really going to work.”
“I’m going to work too.”
Jung Hyuk answered and took out his phone.
Lee Soo was slightly bothered by him, but she decided to focus on her work.
Originally, she planned to start planning this game a year later and release it three years from now.
There had been countless failed plans before reaching the point where this game could be created.
But for Lee Soo, who knew the future, there was no need to go through those failures.
After about an hour passed.
“Ugh…”
She stretched her arms out habitually, then suddenly remembered Jung Hyuk.
Lee Soo quickly lowered her arms and glanced behind her.
Fortunately, he had fallen asleep while leaning against the sofa.
Seeing the unexpected appearance of a man who always looked sharp and intimidating, a faint smile appeared on Lee Soo’s lips.
She quietly brought a blanket and bent down to cover him.
At that moment, along with the sharp smell of alcohol, the heavy scent of a man’s body reached the tip of her nose.
Lee Soo froze like a broken robot.
Her eyes naturally moved toward Jung Hyuk’s face.
A man’s eyelashes could be this long?
What about his smooth skin and his high, straight, perfectly shaped nose?
Like someone drawn toward something beautiful, Lee Soo unknowingly lowered her head closer and observed Jung Hyuk.
Then her eyes stopped at his red lips.
Thick lips, with the corners of his mouth slightly raised, making them look beautiful.
‘Am I crazy? What am I doing right now?’
Realizing she had been secretly watching Jung Hyuk while he slept, Lee Soo suddenly stood up and returned to her seat.
The heat rushing to her face did not disappear for a long time.
“Uh? PD-nim. Did you sleep at the company?”
At Hee Wook’s voice the next morning, Lee Soo woke up in surprise and looked around in confusion.
Fortunately, Jung Hyuk was already gone.
“You said you were going to use all your vacation days and come back.”
“Ah… I suddenly got an idea for a new game last night.”
“When I see PD-nim, I understand what people mean when they say work addiction is scarier than alcohol addiction.”
Lee Soo awkwardly moved to her seat.
But she clearly remembered falling asleep with her head on the desk.
So why was she on the sofa?
Either Jung Hyuk moved her, or she moved there while half asleep and didn’t remember.
Lee Soo hoped it was the second one.
“But PD-nim, you completely transformed from head to toe…”
“Ah… it just happened.”
“You look good.”
“Do I?”
After her mother passed away, Lee Soo couldn’t remember receiving many compliments about her appearance, so it felt strange.
She awkwardly smiled and brushed her hair back.
Then she suddenly remembered something about <Final Perum>.
To confirm it herself, she casually asked Hee Wook, who was turning on the computer.
“Hee Wook, you like Han So Ri, right?”
“Huh? How did you know?”
“You went to her fan signing event recently too?”
“Of course! The CDs I bought just to go there were several hundred…”
“Hee Wook, thank you.”
“Huh? For what?”
“Because you like Han So Ri.”
Hee Wook stared blankly at Lee Soo, who smiled brightly and showed her neat teeth.
After breaking off her engagement, PD-nim had completely changed.
In a good way.
“PD-nim, do you like So Ri too?”
“I’m going to be Han So Ri’s fan for the rest of my life from now on.”
The person who became the reason behind <Final Perum>’s sudden rise was Han So Ri.
It started with a game code coupon for <Final Perum> that Hee Wook gave So Ri in the fan letter at the fan signing event.
When Han So Ri logged into the game using it, it was captured during her LIVE broadcast, which led to YouTubers making trial-play videos.
However, in Korea, it only became a brief topic among fans before the excitement quickly died down.
But then, unexpectedly, it became a huge success in China.
“So Ri is entering a drama next month!”
“Really? I should send a coffee truck.”
Hee Wook never knew Lee Soo liked So Ri this much.
Since joining the company, Hee Wook felt the strongest sense of connection with Lee Soo.
So he unnecessarily interfered after noticing her turned-off phone.
“PD-nim, I have a charger. Should I lend it to you?”
“No, it’s okay.”
Lee Soo refused gently with a meaningful smile.
Her phone was intentionally left without power.
Kwon Tae Kang, did he worry a little?
“Older sister, what time did Lee Soo come home yesterday?”
Since last night, Tae Kang had been in a bad mood because he could not contact Lee Soo.
Then when Yeon Hee contacted him to have lunch together, he asked the moment she arrived at his officetel.
Yeon Hee had come to see Tae Kang because she was bothered that she had turned off her phone while attending the wives’ gathering last night.
But she was surprised that Tae Kang asked about Lee Soo before asking about her situation.
In the past, whenever something like this happened, Tae Kang would subtly show he was upset or hug her the moment their eyes met.
Yeon Hee forced herself to ignore the unpleasant feeling she could not explain.
“Lee Soo didn’t come home yesterday. She said she was staying overnight at the company.”
“What?”
“She does that all the time. Why are you so surprised?”
“She planned this.”
Tae Kang sneered and spoke sarcastically.
Yeon Hee immediately understood what he meant.
“You think Lee Soo was with that man? That makes no sense. You know she’s completely inexperienced when it comes to things like that.”
“Maybe she was only pretending in front of me. Who knows what she did before meeting me and that bastard.”
Although they had planned to get married, Tae Kang had never shared deep physical affection with Lee Soo.
To him, Lee Soo was, if anything, just like a younger sister.
That was why he said he wanted to protect her and postponed their relationship until after marriage.
Lee Soo seemed touched by it.
But the truth was simply that he was not attracted to her.
The person who always excited him and drove him crazy was Yeon Hee.
But when he suddenly thought that another man might have held Lee Soo before him, his stomach twisted.
“If your relationship with her was that deep, I would have known. But it seems like our Tae Kang is a little jealous.”
“Jealous? No way. There’s just an obstacle that appeared in the way of our marriage. I can’t let someone else take what I worked hard for.”
At Yeon Hee’s subtle probing, Tae Kang firmly denied it.
But his voice was far too heated for someone who claimed not to be jealous.
Since the day of the wedding, Yeon Hee felt things had been strangely changing.
Lee Soo had changed.
And Tae Kang was reacting differently to this changed Lee Soo.
“Let’s eat lunch, noona. I’ll grill steak for you.”
Tae Kang took two pieces of tenderloin from the refrigerator, put butter in the frying pan, and cooked them.
Yeon Hee quietly sat on the sofa and watched him without saying anything.
The man who turned around and smiled warmly at her was the Tae Kang she knew.
‘Of course. There’s no way that could happen.’
Tae Kang, who decided to marry Lee Soo even though he did not love her just to stay by Yeon Hee’s side, would not change so easily.
Just as Yeon Hee tried to dismiss it as unnecessary worry…
The phone on the table rang.
Tae Kang immediately walked over and grabbed his phone as if snatching it away.
Then he walked into the bedroom.
“Han Lee Soo! Are you crazy? Why are you calling only now? Even if you meet another guy, you should at least know where the line is!”
His excited voice leaked through the half-closed door.
The pale expression on Yeon Hee’s face instantly turned dark.
Her eyes, red with anger, saw the two pieces of meat burning in the frying pan while releasing white smoke.
