Chapter 6 …
I Come Up With a Certain Method of Revenge
It seems I had been staring at my status screen for a full two hours.
Honestly speaking, no matter how long I looked at my current status window, I would never get tired of it. I could probably stare at it for days.
That was how compelling my status was.
Two hours would naturally feel like nothing.
And the fact that I could hear my younger brotherâs vulgar laughter meant it was probably time for breakfast.
What should I do?
If it was breakfast time, that meant my entire familyâmy parents and my younger brotherâwould definitely be gathered in the dining room.
In that case, it might be a good opportunity to vent all my pent-up frustration using this overwhelming status power.
Being beaten down by the very person they had always looked down on and insulted would surely be a humiliating experience for them.
There would no longer be any need to endure humiliation or wait until they got bored of bullying me.
Just as I thought this and reached my hand toward the doorknob, I suddenly reconsidered.
Was I really going to settle everything I had endured up until now in a single moment? Wasnât there another way?
It was true that if I went to release all my frustration on them now, it would certainly be an enjoyable moment, and my familyâespecially my younger brotherâwould have their pride completely shattered.
However, to put it differently, that was all it would be. Aside from breaking their pride, there would be no real additional benefit, and that enjoyable moment would end in an instant.
If I was going to do it anyway, it would be better to make that enjoyment last longer and deal greater damage.
And so, as I came up with a certain method of revenge, I quietly released my hand from the doorknob.
If I remember correctly, tomorrow is a holiday, and there is supposed to be a party held in the daytime in the garden of this house to celebrate my younger brotherâs succession to the ducal house.
And the plan is that I would engage in a mock battle with my younger brother there, and by having him win, a performance would be staged showing that he, rather than meâthe older brotherâis more suitable to inherit the ducal house.
Of course, at first I had no intention of going along with such a performance. However, my father, Edward, said to me:
âIf you win this mock battle, I will choose the winner as the successor. Of course, if you win, you will become the official heir of our Quvist ducal house. For a failure like you, isnât this an opportunity you would never get again? I am even extending a hand to a failure like you, so donât even think about skipping it, you understand?â
He said this with eyes that looked at me as if I were a stray dog, speaking words that clearly did not come from the heart.
Since that was the case, I might as well attend.
After all, it was obvious that his words were lies when I considered the fact that my younger brother had been given expensive magic staves and a thin sword purchased at great cost, while I was only given a childâs magic wand and a wooden sword.
