Chapter 20: The Crown Princeâs Detox Plan
ăNoah Arthur Igburnă
Gender: Male
Age: 13
Condition: Chronic Poisoning
Occupation: Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Igburn / Oliviaâs fiancĂ© / Hardcore Olivia Fan
The displayed status for Noah hadnât changed much since beforeâexcept for the occupation field, which now contained some puzzling words I would rather not analyze too deeply.
At least I can say for sure: that last part is not an occupation.
According to Shiro, this âstatus windowâ differs from the poison warning display; it only appears when I directly touch someone.
It wonât react through gloves or clothing, and it seems I can also suppress it by will. That was a reliefâhaving other peopleâs statuses pop up every time I brushed against them would be unbearable. Being able to control it somewhat is a blessing.
Still, Noahâs condition remains âChronic Poisoning.â
Apparently, a few days of detox werenât enough to purge the toxins built up in his body. Queen Eleanor must have been administering poison slowly and consistently over a long period, wearing him down bit by bit. The sheer persistence and cruelty of that thought made my skin crawl.
âYour Highness Noah, how are you feeling? Any headaches or nausea?â
âWhy so sudden? I used to have both quite often, but ever since you came, Olivia, Iâve been fine.â
âYou push yourself too hard with work and study, Your Highness. You must take better care of yourself.â
Noah only gave a wry smile, but Marshaâs concern wasnât misplaced.
Once preparations for the island retreat are complete, Iâll have to leave this place. Before then, I need to somehow fix Noahâs abnormal conditionâbutâŠ
â
I put on the standard maid uniform, finishing it off with a white apron.
My distinctive silver hair was hidden away beneath a maidâs cap, and a pair of thick, oversized glasses completed the disguise.
âIn other wordsâta-da! From villainess to palace maid⊠or something like that.â
Shiro, the divine beast sprawled out on the floor, looked up at me with pity.
Please donât look at me like that. Itâs not that palace life is breaking my spiritâIâm just a little tired, thatâs all.
âAll right, Your Highness Noah! After breakfast, letâs do some light exercise!â
After finishing breakfast in Noahâs chambers and waiting until only Noah, Marsha, and I remained, I gathered my courage and spoke brightly.
Noah froze for a split second, still smiling, then averted his eyes in a suspiciously casual way.
âAh, come to think of it, I have a meeting with the minister today.â
âYour Highness, you met him yesterday.â
âIt wasnât a meeting, it was sword training. So unfortunately, that means todayâs session of⊠what was itâŠ?â
âYoga.â
âYes, thatâs rightââYo-ga.â Weâll do that another time.â
And with that, still smiling, Noah fled the room.
âUgh⊠he escaped again.â
Ever since arriving here, Iâve been trying to get Noah to join me in yoga as part of his detox regimen.
When I demonstrated a few basic poses, he smiled cheerfully and said, âWhat a curious form of exercise. Did you come up with it yourself? Impressiveâvery creative.â
He praised me, yesâbut the moment I asked him to try it with me, he always found some excuse to disappear.
And just now, did he call yoga a form of demon worship?
That would explain why I found a small statue of Demiul quietly placed in my room this morning.
âWell, well. His Highness already trains regularly, so exercise shouldnât be a problem,â Marsha said kindly.
âI suppose⊠but it still feels a little unsatisfying somehow.â
Marsha laughed at my pout.
âFufu. Still, thanks to you, Olivia-sama, his diet has improved dramatically, and that makes me truly happy.â
âI only offered a few suggestions.â
âOh no, if it werenât for you, His Highness would still be skipping breakfast and living on tea alone.â
IndeedâNoahâs diet had been terribly unbalanced.
Because of all the banquets, he rarely ate breakfast, surviving instead on tea. When busy, heâd even skip lunch, relying on snacks until dinner.
I advised him to at least have a light breakfast, even if late, to avoid overeating at dinner. I also set times for tea consumptionâherbal tea at night, and otherwise plenty of warm water or fruit-infused water throughout the day.
Basic but essential steps for expelling toxins.
âWhen His Highness knows you made the dish yourself, he never leaves a bite behind,â Marsha giggled.
âReally? He doesnât seem like a picky eater to me.â
âOn the contrary! Heâs notoriously hard to pleaseâa chefâs nightmare. Your cooking is special, Olivia-sama.â
âEh? TrulyâŠ?â
He always looked so composed eating vegetables and everything else, but apparently, thereâs still a bit of childishness in him.
Iâve been teaching Marsha and the palace chefs some simple detox recipes and sweets, partly for my own meals too, and they nearly cried with joy each time.
Iâd thought it an overreactionâuntil Marsha said, âTo think someone so kind would come as His Highnessâs fiancĂ©e, caring for his health like thisâŠâ That sobered me right up.
For me to survive, Noah must survive too. Everything I do is for that purposeâbut it keeps earning me praise as the âperfect fiancĂ©e,â which feels awkward.
While I was mulling that over, Shiro trotted up to me.
âOlivia, I wanna eat your food too!â he said.
When heâd shown interest in Noahâs meals, Iâd let him try a bit, and heâd been hooked ever sinceâconstantly begging for more detox dishes. Apparently, they taste better to him than regular ones.
âIâm sure the palace chefsâ food tastes way better, thoughâŠâ
âOh, come on, Olivia,â he puffed his chest. âI have a refined palate, you know?â
âŠSo he was male after all.
Marsha laughed, watching our exchange, and I couldnât help but smile too.
âAll right then, Iâll cookâbut youâre helping me, okay?â
âEhh~?â
âThose who donât work, donât eat,â I said firmly to the grumbling divine beast.
And so, to offer a worthy tribute to the âdiscerningâ Shiro, I headed to the kitchen once again.
