Chapter 14

Phillion spoke.

“Riel?”

Looking at me, he said my name.

Very clearly.

“You… you… did your memories… come back?”

Then, all of a sudden, he frowned deeply and pressed a hand to his forehead as if he were in pain.

“Do you remember? What? What exactly?”

“I, back then…”

“If you’re messing with me, I won’t let you off!”

But before he could even finish answering, he staggered, and I quickly rushed over to support him.

Afraid he would collapse to the side, I grabbed his shoulder, and his large body suddenly leaned heavily against me.

“Why are you like this?!”

Even though my heart was pounding wildly from panic, I was able to keep my head because the heat coming from where we touched was far too intense.

And his breathing.

The sound of someone gasping as if their throat were being squeezed filled my ears.

His condition was clearly not normal. I tried to look at his face properly, but—

“Ugh, why are you so heavy?!”

In the end, I couldn’t hold him up any longer and called for help from the people nearby. Thankfully, some kind strangers came to assist, saving me from the fate of being crushed under him.

Even after three sturdy men forcibly moved him onto a bench, Phillion still didn’t regain consciousness.

Looking at his tightly shut eyes as he lay completely unconscious, I let out a sigh.

“You really are something else…”

The doctor spoke with a serious expression.

“Sleep deprivation.”

“Can someone really just collapse on the street because of that?”

“It’s not something that never happens.”

“He had a high fever too. He was gasping for breath.”

“He seemed fine when I examined him a moment ago.”

“That’s true, but…”

“Is there anything you can think of? For example, did he experience a major psychological shock?”

“Th-That’s because… actually, he lost his memories.”

“Hmm. Then perhaps something from his past came back to him.”

Yes, that was definitely the feeling I got.

Especially considering what he had said right before collapsing.

—“I, back then…”

It would have been better if he had finished that sentence, but no matter how much I shook him, Phillion wouldn’t wake up.

Luckily, the three men who had helped me were extremely kind. They even offered to move him with the emergency stretcher prepared for the event, so taking him to the hospital was the best choice I had.

I couldn’t exactly leave him there when I had no idea when he would wake up.

‘Something definitely came back to him.’

I was nervous.

The moment had finally arrived.

I felt my palms sweating.

But since I had no intention of running away, I didn’t stop walking even after leaving the doctor.

I walked down the hallway without hesitation and pushed open the door to Phillion’s hospital room.

Phillion, lying on the bed, had the same indifferent expression as always.

“How long has it been?”

“About ten minutes? You didn’t sleep for long.”

I examined him carefully before sitting down on the chair beside the bed.

I had wondered if he would grab me by the collar the moment he saw me and say, Riel Folks!

But thankfully, he wasn’t destroying the hospital.

“Do you have something you do at night?”

“Pardon?”

“They said you’re sleep-deprived. What on earth are you doing instead of sleeping at night?”

Honestly, I wasn’t that curious.

I just asked because it felt a little cruel to immediately demand answers about his memories the moment he woke up.

But then, as if he had been asked an extremely heavy question, his expression stiffened.

He quickly turned his head away.

After thinking for quite a while, he finally spoke.

Synopsis

I transmigrated into the body of Raiel, the villainess who torments the heroine and is brutally killed by the male lead.

To survive, I tried to become friends with the male lead, but...

"There are only two kinds of people I keep close: those stronger than me, or those who obey my every word."

The male lead I met in person was far more insufferable than he had been in the original story.

He constantly looked down on me and mocked me every time he defeated me in a duel.

"Wow, you're really terrible at this."

With my self-esteem completely shattered, I decided to leave him behind.

After playing along with the male and female leads for a while, one day, during a mission with them...

I handed over a clue related to the villain and pretended to die in an accident.

"I'm finally free!"

That was five years ago.

When I returned five years later, everything had changed.

There was a statue of me standing in the town square.

"If it weren't for her, the Western Continent would have fallen long ago!"

The heroine had become the Mercenary King.

"Compared to Lady Raiel's sacrifice, this is nothing."

And most importantly...

"May I call you... Master?"

The male lead had lost his memories...

And he didn't recognize me at all!
