Ā Chapter 8
** No Longer Necessary**
The person beside him asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I thought I saw someone I know.”
He and Feng Tingshen had grown up together. He also knew that Rong Ci had feelings for Feng Tingshen.
To be honest, Rong Ci was very beautiful, but she was quiet. Pretty as she was, she lacked any distinctive traits ā she wasn’t Feng Tingshen’s type.
Feng Tingshen kept his distance from her, and they didn’t think much of Rong Ci either.
They hadn’t seen Rong Ci many times, and when they did, they couldn’t be bothered to greet her.
Truth be told, her image in his mind was already somewhat blurry. He wasn’t even sure if he had seen correctly.
But even if it really was Rong Ci, he didn’t care.
He didn’t say anything more and turned back to the private room.
ā¦
Rong Ci didn’t notice Qi Yuming.
After leaving the hotel, she took her friend home to Chu Zilan’s place and stayed there that night to take care of her.
When Chu Zilan woke up and saw Rong Ci there, she hugged her gratefully: “Thanks for last night. I’ll treat you to a meal another day!”
Rong Ci had already made breakfast. She patted her head: “Get up and wash up. The breakfast will get cold.”
Chu Zilan hugged her, burying her face in Rong Ci’s waist, unwilling to let go: “Xiao Ci, you’re so soft and sweet-smelling. You’re so comfortable to hold~”
Rong Ci: “⦔
After washing up, Chu Zilan saw the fragrant breakfast Rong Ci had prepared on the table and felt incredibly happy. She truly believed that whoever married Rong Ci had found a treasure.
But thinking of Rong Ci’s marriage to Feng Tingshen, she didn’t say it out loud, afraid of upsetting her.
She sat down and ate breakfast while playing on her phone.
But after a moment, her expression changed slightly, and she couldn’t help asking Rong Ci: “Feng Tingshen is back in the country?”
Rong Ci: “Yes.”
Chu Zilan handed her phone to Rong Ci.
Rong Ci glanced at it and saw that it was a Moments post from Feng Tingshen’s friend Qi Yuming.
He had posted several photos from their gathering the night before.
The caption read: “Happy birthday to the beautiful birthday girl~”
Although it was to wish Lin Wu a happy birthday, four or five of the nine photos were of Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu together.
Notably, in the photo of them cutting the cake, Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu held the same crystal knife together.
As for her daughter Feng Jingxin ā she hadn’t appeared in any of the photos at all. Presumably, this was to avoid the Feng family elders finding out. After all, Feng Tingshen’s grandmother and Rong Ci’s grandmother were old friends, and because of what had happened between Rong Ci’s mother and Lin Wu’s mother, the old lady had always disliked Lin Wu.
If the old lady found out that Feng Tingshen allowed Feng Jingxin to be close to Lin Wu, she would probably be very angry.
Just looking at the photos, anyone who didn’t know better would think Feng Tingshen and Lin Wu were a real couple.
But it was also clear that this birthday party had been specially arranged by Feng Tingshen for Lin Wu.
Thinking of the cold treatment she had received on her own birthday half a month ago, Rong Ci looked away.
Chu Zilan looked at her worriedly: “Xiao Ciā”
“It’s fine. How they are has nothing to do with me anymore.” Rong Ci handed the phone back to her. “I’ve already proposed divorce to Feng Tingshen.”
“What?!”
Chu Zilan was shocked. “You⦠you were the one to propose divorce?!”
“Yes.”
Chu Zilan hadn’t actually disliked Feng Tingshen before.
On the contrary, she had once greatly admired him, even felt her heart flutter for him.
It was for no other reason than that Feng Tingshen was simply too outstanding.
Rong Ci had skipped three grades and graduated from the country’s top university before she was even 18. She had quickly started her own technology company and secured several patents. In Chu Zilan’s eyes, that was already incredible enough.
But Feng Tingshen, it was said, had graduated from university at 13.
Soon after graduating, Feng Tingshen had gone abroad for further studies.
It was said that by the time he returned from abroad, he had already founded several companies of his own, all of which were publicly listed.
And at that time, Feng Tingshen was not even 20 years old!
Feng Tingshen’s companies spanned technology, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, tourism, and other fields.
In the following years, while building his own companies, he had also taken over the Feng Group.
In just a few years, he had effortlessly elevated the Feng Group to new heights.
Who in their circle wouldn’t give Feng Tingshen a thumbs up when speaking of him?
What’s more, Feng Tingshen was also extremely handsome.
So, she wasn’t surprised that Rong Ci, a genius herself, had fallen for Feng Tingshen, another genius.
However, Feng Tingshen was indeed ruthless enough toward those he didn’t like.
Thinking of how Feng Tingshen had constantly misunderstood Rong Ci over the years and recklessly trampled on her sincere feelings, Chu Zilan had completely lost any admiration for him.
Chu Zilan had always seen how deeply Rong Ci loved Feng Tingshen.
Over the years, she had advised Rong Ci to divorce him more than once.
But Rong Ci had always silently shaken her head.
So she had truly never imagined that Rong Ci would be the one to propose divorce.
She couldn’t eat her breakfast anymore. She looked at Rong Ci with concern: “What happened?”
She knew that something must have happened that she wasn’t aware of, something that had made Rong Ci, who had always loved Feng Tingshen so steadfastly, take the initiative to divorce him.
Rong Ci thought for a moment, then said, “Actually, it’s not really such a big deal. Maybe I just accumulated enough disappointment and suddenly felt tired. I just want a divorce.”
Chu Zilan knew Rong Ci’s character well. She knew that once Rong Ci made a decision, even if she might not have fully let go of Feng Tingshen yet, she wouldn’t change it easily.
She was serious.
Chu Zilan went over and hugged Rong Ci: “It’s okay. Divorcing him is a good thing.”
Rong Ci: “Yes.”
After breakfast, Rong Ci left Chu Zilan’s place and went to work.
Before she moved out, although she and Feng Tingshen went to the same workplace, they always left at different times and never went to work together. Moreover, he kept his distance from her so strictly that they sometimes didn’t run into each other for a month at the office.
Now that she had moved out, she had run into him twice in a row.
Today, Feng Tingshen was as handsome, tall, and composed as ever. And as always, whenever he saw her, the coldness on his face became more pronounced.
Just like yesterday, Feng Tingshen only glanced at her briefly before looking away.
Rong Ci lowered her eyes and, like yesterday, softly said, “President Feng.” Only after Feng Tingshen had walked away did she step into the company.
She didn’t know whether Lin Wu had come to the company today, nor did she care. She focused quietly on her own work.
At noon, her grandmother called her.
“Xiao Ci, someone from X City sent over a whole lamb. The weather is getting cold now. Come back for dinner tonight, and I’ll have them prepare a whole lamb feast for you.”
Hearing her grandmother’s kind voice, Rong Ci’s heart warmed: “Okay, I’ll come back after work.”
Aside from that morning, Rong Ci didn’t run into Feng Tingshen again that day.
At the end of the day, she packed up her things and was about to leave on time when Cheng Yuan handed her a document and told her to handle it urgently.
Rong Ci paused.
Although he said it was urgent, Rong Ci glanced at the content and knew that this document wasn’t actually needed right away.
If this had been before, she would have smiled and accepted it, promising to complete it as quickly as possible.
Because she didn’t want to be treated specially.
But today, she didn’t want to strive for perfection ā especially not when it came to matters concerning Feng Tingshen.
Besides, she was tired.
All she wanted now was to go home early and be with her grandmother. She didn’t want to work overtime.
In the past, she had always wanted to build good relationships with Feng Tingshen’s personal secretaries.
But now, it was no longer necessary.
What’s more, Cheng Yuan had falsely accused her yesterday without knowing the facts. She didn’t have such a big heart that she could pretend nothing had happened.
She looked at Cheng Yuan and said coldly, “I’m not doing this work right now. I’m leaving for the day.”
