Chapter 4Ā
** Preparing for Divorce**
Feng Jingxin jumped up from the bed: “Really?!”
“Yes.”
“Then why didn’t Aunt Wu Wu tell me just now?”
“The situation has just become clear. I haven’t told her yet.”
Feng Jingxin was overjoyed: “Then Daddy, don’t tell Aunt Wu Wu about this yet. After we go back home, let’s surprise her, okay?!”
“Okay.”
“Daddy, you’re the best. I love you to death!”
After hanging up, Feng Jingxin was still over the moon, singing and dancing on her bed.
A little while later, she suddenly thought of Rong Ci.
These past few days, because her mother hadn’t called her, her mood had been excellent.
Actually, to avoid talking to her mother on the phone, she had purposely left early in the mornings and, after coming home from school, had deliberately put her phone far away or turned it off.
After two days, she had worried that her mother might get angry if she found out, so she had stopped doing that.
But to her surprise, her mother still hadn’t called her in the following days.
At first, she thought her mother had found out that she had been deliberately avoiding her calls.
But on second thought, she felt that based on past experience, if her mother knew she had done something wrong, she would have immediately told her to correct it, rather than getting angry and not calling her.
After all, in her mother’s heart, she was the most important thing. Her mother loved her the most. She didn’t believe her mother could really bear to punish her by not calling!
Thinking this, Feng Jingxin suddenly missed Rong Ci a little.
This was the first time in many days that she had thought of Rong Ci.
She couldn’t help but call her.
But as soon as she dialed, she suddenly realized ā although she would be able to see Aunt Wu Wu soon after returning home, given her mother’s nature, her mother would definitely try every possible way to stop her from seeing Aunt Wu Wu.
She would never again be able to see Aunt Wu Wu whenever she wanted, like she could here.
With these thoughts, Feng Jingxin’s mood suddenly soured.
Back home, it was the early hours of the morning.
Rong Ci was already asleep.
She was woken up by Feng Jingxin’s call.
Seeing that it was Feng Jingxin calling, she was about to answer when Feng Jingxin angrily hung up.
Although Rong Ci had stated in the divorce agreement she gave Feng Tingshen that she was giving up custody of Feng Jingxin, Feng Jingxin was still her daughter after all.
She still had a certain responsibility toward her.
Seeing that Feng Jingxin had called her and then suddenly hung up, worried that something might be wrong, she quickly called back.
Feng Jingxin saw the incoming call but turned her little face away and refused to answer.
Rong Ci grew even more concerned and immediately called the landline at the villa.
Auntie Liu answered quickly. After hearing what Rong Ci said, she said, “The young miss should be fine. She went to bed very late last night and woke up late today. When I went upstairs earlier, she was still asleep. I’ll go upstairs and check, then call you back.”
Hearing Auntie Liu’s words, Rong Ci finally felt relieved: “Okay, thank you for your trouble.”
When Auntie Liu went upstairs, Feng Jingxin was already in the bathroom washing up.
After Auntie Liu explained the situation, Feng Jingxin lowered her head while rinsing her mouth and lied: “I accidentally pressed it.”
Auntie Liu thought nothing of it. Seeing that she was brushing her teeth, she went back downstairs to report back to Rong Ci.
Feng Jingxin watched and gave a little “hmph,” finally feeling a bit better.
After hearing what Auntie Liu said, Rong Ci felt relieved as well.
However, having been woken up suddenly, she couldn’t fall back asleep for a long time. When she got up for work the next morning, she wasn’t feeling very well-rested.
As for the envelope containing the divorce agreement that Rong Ci had given to Feng Tingshen ā after answering Lin Wu’s call that day, he had never thought about it again.
On the day of their return home, Feng Tingshen placed the last document into his briefcase. After making sure nothing was left behind, he turned and went downstairs.
“We’re ready. Let’s go.”
The stretched Lincoln soon left the villa and headed to the airport.
ā¦
Rong Ci did not know that Feng Tingshen and the others were returning home.
No one had told her.
Half a month had passed since she moved out of the villa.
During this half month, she had gradually grown accustomed to ā and even come to enjoy ā the quiet, leisurely life of living alone.
Today was the weekend. She woke up a little late.
After getting up and washing up, she pulled open the curtains. Seeing the sunlight streaming in beautifully outside, she stretched lazily. After watering her flowers and plants, she was just about to make herself a simple breakfast when the doorbell rang.
It was Mrs. Fang, the neighbor who lived across the hall.
“Miss Rong, I hope I didn’t disturb you?”
Rong Ci said gently, “Not at all. I was already awake.”
“That’s good.” Mrs. Fang said warmly, “Our family made fresh buns and dumplings this morning. I brought some over for you to try.”
“Thank you, but⦠you’re too kind.”
“It’s the least I can do. If you hadn’t saved my Tian Tian the other day, who knows what that rabid dog would have done to her. I’ve been wanting to thank you properly these past few days, but my husband and I have been busy with work and haven’t had the time. I feel terrible about it⦔
“It was just a small effort on my part. You’re being too polite, Mrs. Fang.”
After a brief chat, Mrs. Fang left.
Rong Ci returned to her apartment, eating breakfast while studying the algorithm mechanism of an AI system she had been researching lately.
In the afternoon, a news notification about T University’s centennial celebration popped up on her phone.
Rong Ci paused. She checked the date and remembered that today was indeed T University’s birthday.
She looked online and saw that there were several trending topics related to #TUniversityCentennial#.
The reason this T University anniversary was garnering so much attention, aside from the fact that T University was the top university in the country and every move it made was closely watched, was that this was T University’s first centennial celebration. As a result, there were an especially large number of distinguished alumni who had been invited back to attend the celebration.
These distinguished alumni were all heavy hitters in their respective industries, attracting considerable attention.
Rong Ci stared at the screen for a long time.
When she saw several familiar faces appear in the camera frame, her hand holding the phone trembled slightly.
Memories of her school days immediately flooded her mind.
Her heart suddenly became restless.
If she hadn’t gotten married right after graduating from undergraduate studies, perhaps she, too, would have been among the distinguished alumni invited back to attend the ceremony today?
Rong Ci closed her laptop. After hesitating for a moment, she drove to T University.
By then, it was already afternoon.
Many of the big names who had been invited back for the ceremony had already left.
But the campus was still very crowded.
Rong Ci wandered aimlessly through the campus. When she reached the foot of the familiar laboratory building, a familiar voice called out to her.
“Xiao Ci?”
Twenty minutes later, in a teahouse outside T University.
Yu Moxun poured Rong Ci a cup of tea: “How have you been lately?”
Rong Ci held the teacup, lowered her gaze, and smiled faintly: “Pretty good. I’m just⦠preparing for a divorce.”
Yu Moxun hadn’t expected to hear that answer. He paused: “I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine.”
“What are your plans going forward? Would you consider coming back to the company?”
“I’ve been thinking about it, but⦔
Yu Moxun didn’t know what her concerns were, but he said to her very seriously: “Xiao Ci, the company needs you. The company is partly yours as well. I hope you can come back and take the helm.”
“I⦠I⦔
Looking at Yu Moxun’s earnest expression, Rong Ci found it hard to speak her mind.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to.
It was that the AI field was developing too rapidly now.
She had been out of the industry for six years. Even if she returned now, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to keep up with the times, let alone lead everyone at the forefront of the industry like she used to.
