<CHAPTER 30>
It’s Hurtful, Between Us
Anyone would think she had left her lover and run away completely.
Evelyn let out a hollow laugh at the absurdity and asked.
“So you’re saying I left without a word and came here?”
Though she tried to maintain her composure, her eyebrows couldn’t find their place at 10:10.
Aksion, who had been watching her intently, wore an elegant smile on his lips as if amused.
“Surely, you don’t think I missed you.”
Evelyn swallowed a sigh of relief at the man’s attitude of drawing a clear line.
‘Right, why would he miss me… wait? Is this right?’
Though her pride was subtly wounded, she glanced at her fiancé without malice.
But it wasn’t easy to grasp the intentions of the man smiling brightly at her.
Since there were questions she couldn’t solve alone, Evelyn asked firmly once more.
“Then why are you here?”
Then Aksion tilted his head and spoke in an indifferent voice.
“Because I’m a freshman here too.”
Evelyn’s green pupils shook mercilessly as if she had heard thunder from a clear sky.
The man showed a relaxed smile as if he had anticipated her reaction.
“Didn’t you know? We’re classmates.”
“Don’t lie. Your name was definitely not on the entrance ceremony list.”
As Evelyn made an expression as if the sky were falling and clenched her fingertips, he spoke quite shamelessly.
“As you can see, I’m currently skipping class with you.”
“Hey, you should say things properly!”
As she gritted her teeth to suppress her anger, Aksion lightly shrugged his shoulders.
“Relax your expression. I didn’t want to come here either.”
“Then why did you enroll here?”
As a cheerful and clear bell sound spread from the center, Evelyn made a sullen expression.
The man who had been gazing at her comfortably raised one eyebrow crookedly.
“Shouldn’t you go quickly?”
It was clear that today was not her lucky day.
***
Evelyn’s ambitious resolution to make many friends at the Academy couldn’t even be named.
Because Aksion was blatantly with her in the liberal arts courses that would proceed unchanged for the next three years.
And right in the seat next to her.
Unable to hide her disgusted expression, she spoke quietly enough for only her fiancé to hear.
“Hey, move away. Please move away and sit somewhere else.”
Even though she had clearly told him “No pretending to know me! Walk separately!” he completely ignored her words.
“It’s hurtful, between us.”
Contrary to his words of regret, mischief was evident in Aksion’s red eyes.
Does that look like the face of someone who’s hurt?
Dealing with someone spouting nonsense, she already wanted to declare a self-imposed leave of absence.
Evelyn, who had been pressing her throbbing temples, let out a long sigh and said.
“Please, can you stop saying such nonsense?”
Meanwhile, she heard people’s voices whispering about her and Aksion.
“What’s the relationship between those two?”
“I heard they’ve been engaged since childhood?”
Though she had wished for a more comfortable Academy life than anyone else, her fiancé was about to ruin everything.
It seemed everyone in the Academy, even Sebastian the hedgehog raised by the Dean, would know about their engagement.
Why did she have to suffer such misfortune? Evelyn wanted to grab Aksion by the collar and throw him out right now.
But the man, who couldn’t know her feelings, pulled his lips into a loose smile and muttered lowly.
“Well, I have something to tell you too.”
“Something to tell me?”
Evelyn, with eyes full of wariness, furrowed her brows as if telling him to speak quickly.
Then Aksion casually held out a velvet ribbon string he had taken from his pocket to her.
And he bowed his head and whispered quietly near Evelyn’s ear.
“I left it at our house—”
“Please, that mouth! Keep that mouth shut.”
Why does he keep saying things that cause misunderstandings!
By the time it was the fall semester of her second year, Evelyn was spending busier days than ever.
Thanks to Aksion’s interest in teasing her quickly fading, they had returned to their usual indifferent relationship.
“Now even Sebastian will know.”
She let out a small sigh and swept her face once with both hands.
The thought that she could graduate smoothly from here was a huge miscalculation.
Though she had spent over a year at the Academy without incident, the situation she had worried about was starting again.
“Huh? The President is passing by there.”
“As expected, the President’s lover is with him too.”
That’s not it, so please don’t misunderstand!
As her schoolmates’ voices were heard from the hallway, Evelyn turned around sharply.
And she glared at the man following her with gritted teeth.
“Everyone’s misunderstanding because of you!”
These days, Aksion had acquired a new title. The Student Council President’s lover, or something like that.
She had tried to explain to those around her that it wasn’t like that, but they didn’t believe Evelyn’s words.
They just seemed to think she was acting shy.
‘No, why are they doing this?’
She had even brought him a fatigue recovery potion out of worry when he had gone on a rampage not long ago.
Yet this guy was repaying her kindness with enmity.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t run into each other everywhere like this.
Aksion, who obviously knew what she was talking about, pretended not to understand and asked innocently.
“Well, what exactly is the misunderstanding?”
You… you black-hearted fellow!
Evelyn felt like her anger was about to explode.
Nevertheless, she took a short breath and spoke in a deliberately calm voice.
“Are you really asking because you don’t know? Would strange rumors come out for no reason?”
“Since when did you react to such things?”
“Huh.”
‘What kind of new torment is this?’
As always, they should just not care about each other, but Aksion had been acting unlike himself lately.
He would deliberately approach her pretending to know her, or gift her desserts from a famous patisserie in the capital.
Even now, Evelyn was on her way to the laboratory to retrieve something she had left behind, and he had naturally joined her.
At the man’s attitude of constantly hovering around her, she was gradually reaching the limit of her patience.
Of course, the problem was that Aksion didn’t care at all.
Just as Evelyn was racking her brains over how to shake him off.
“Evelyn, what are you doing here?”
“Ah, Senior Damian.”
Damian, the former Student Council President and her senior, approached with a gentle smile.
With both his appearance and personality being the type to win everyone’s favor, he still helped a lot with student council work.
After exchanging brief greetings, Evelyn soon scratched one cheek and made an awkward smile.
“I left a sample for an assignment in the laboratory.”
It was a subject she wouldn’t have taken if someone hadn’t spread rumors that it was a honey course and she absolutely had to take it.
She should have known earlier that it was spoiled honey!
When she briefly explained the situation, Damian made a welcome proposal.
“It’s Professor Mason’s class? I was just on my way to the laboratory too, so I have materials that might help—”
“Wow, really? You saved me, Senior.”
Contrary to her worries about the difficult class, it was as if a hand of salvation had appeared.
‘An angel has definitely been reincarnated as Senior Damian.’
Just as Evelyn, wearing a relieved smile, was about to stride after him.
As if putting on shackles, Aksion’s large, firm hand grabbed her hand.
At the unfamiliar sensation transmitted from his hand, Evelyn’s nose bridge twitched.
Compared to the soft feeling from childhood, he now had a man’s hand with calluses.
She stared blankly at her awkwardly caught hand and asked in a bewildered voice.
“What are you doing right now?”
For an instant, Aksion’s deep red gaze looked dangerously threatening.
The man’s lips, whose thoughts were impossible to fathom, gradually hardened.
He released Evelyn’s hand and spoke in an extremely dry voice.
“…Nothing.”
He truly was a strange fellow.
