Chapter 08

Su Li walked back home. Her cold hadn’t recovered yet, and now it was even worse.

Her nose was blocked, her head hurt, and her throat was painful.

She took cold medicine, wrapped herself in the blanket, and curled up in bed with her legs pulled in.

A bed for one person… it stayed cold for a long time.

Near dawn, Su Li really couldn’t endure anymore. She put on her down jacket and took a taxi to the hospital.

While getting an IV drip, she felt dizzy and confused. She watched other people having someone accompany them, and she couldn’t help feeling a little envious.

Someone once said loneliness has levels. Right now, she was probably above level ten.

Time passed slowly, and she didn’t dare to sleep.

She forced herself to stay awake and checked the IV bottle from time to time.

Mo Xingyuan came to the hospital for a follow-up check, and accidentally saw Su Li sitting in the infusion area.

Her head was lowered, her hair a bit messy, a needle inserted into the back of her hand. Among all the people there, she looked especially lonely.

Suddenly, Su Li lifted her head and looked outside. Her eyes met Mo Xingyuan’s for a second. She subconsciously called him, “Mo Xingyuan…”

Mo Xingyuan acted as if he didn’t see her and walked away directly.

Chi Mu followed behind him without saying anything.

Su Li never expected to see him here. That brief moment felt like an illusion.

She curled her lips. What was she even expecting?

She couldn’t possibly think that man would care about her.

The thought alone was funny.

When they walked out of the director’s office, Chi Mu was extremely excited inside.

He held back his emotions, but even his voice trembled slightly. “There’s still a chance. You should go early and get prepared.”

Mo Xingyuan felt nothing inside. From the moment he was diagnosed to the moment he was told he was dying, he had already accepted it.

All these “chances” were just struggling at the edge of death.

As for this tiny bit of uncertain hope, he didn’t think much of it.

No expectations meant no disappointment.

When they passed the infusion area again, Mo Xingyuan glanced inside once more.

Su Li was still there. The IV bottle was almost empty, and she seemed to be asleep.

“You stay here,” Mo Xingyuan said, taking off his coat and handing it to Chi Mu. “Send her home.”

Chi Mu took the coat. He hesitated for a moment, then said, “Yes.”

After Mo Xingyuan left, Chi Mu walked over to Su Li. When her IV finished, he called a nurse.

Su Li woke up instantly. Seeing Chi Mu surprised her.

She looked around instinctively, searching for Mo Xingyuan.

“Mr. Mo already left.”

Su Li wiped her forehead and collapsed back onto the chair. She felt a little better, but her body was still weak.

After sitting for a while, she got up and took her medicine.

Chi Mu followed behind her.

When they stepped outside the hospital, the cold wind hit them immediately. She shivered and hugged herself tightly.

Chi Mu handed her Mo Xingyuan’s coat.

Su Li looked at the coat and let out a small laugh. Her voice was hoarse as she asked, “What does he mean by this?”

Chi Mu didn’t really know, so he said, “He cares about you.”

No matter what his intention was, leaving his coat behind meant he didn’t want her to catch a cold.

Su Li accepted the coat and put it on. She was cold.

His coat had a faint scent—just like him—cold and quiet.

When she got into the car, the heater was warm, and she immediately felt sleepy.

She didn’t know how long she slept, but when she woke up, the car had already parked, and Chi Mu wasn’t inside.

She looked out the window and saw Chi Mu talking on the phone.

Judging by his expression, he was probably speaking with Mo Xingyuan.

She waited for him to finish the call before getting out.

Chi Mu turned around.

Su Li handed him the coat. “Thank him for me.”

“There’s still a bit of distance. If you need anything, you can call me,” Chi Mu said, not taking the coat.

Su Li bit her lip and put the coat back on. “I can’t call him?”

Chi Mu froze slightly. “You can.”

After all, Mr. Mo never said she couldn’t call him.

“Thank you. I’m going back,” Su Li said with a small smile and walked into the residential area.

When she got home, Lu Jing called her. After learning that Su Li went to the hospital alone, she scolded her for a long time.

Hearing her best friend’s nagging and scolding, Su Li’s heart felt warm.

After Lu Jing finished yelling, Su Li finally told her that Mo Xingyuan made Chi Mu send her home and even left his coat for her.
